Metal Slug X (2001) is a remixed version of Metal Slug 2, the second installment of an immensely popular run'n'gun series released on the Neo Geo MVS. The games are notable for incredibly detailed pixel graphics, fluid animation, and good humor; but the real key to their longevity is, of course, their high difficulty as far as survival goes.
This is x2poet's 16.42 seconds improvement over the previous movie, despite now using the hardest difficulty setting. One notable improvement is the use of both players, compared to one in the obsoleted run.

X will always be my favorite.
3 gets so much praise but imo X has the right amount of difficulty before 3 just starts getting crazy hard and is when the series started having meme final stages that are as long as the rest of the game combined.
It's a spectacle for sure, but not very reasonable for anyone to play through.

In classic Metal Slug games, you can do more and faster melee attacks when you combine the melee attacks with crouching and standing

Crouch cancelling: If you start ducking during certain animations it cancels the rest of the animation (and by extension the "cooldown" on attacks) so you can get higher DPS. iirc you have to do a turnaround cancel when you're crouching for the same effect but it could be different for this game

I've forgotten so many of the hidden item locations you have to shoot to collect. 😁 I do remember shooting the sign at the start of the level to collect a frog worth 500 points.

So I’m not a TASer or a Metal Slug expert, but are they wasting ammo in certain spots?
Something I noticed is that with certain enemies even though the game makes the sound effect as if it’s registering hits their points don’t go up until after a certain point. The two places I noticed this the most are with the helicopter chains (the ones with 4 copters follwing one red one) as well as a few segments in the train tunnel.

I would guess it's because the blood is more sprites and that could slow down the emulator, which would make their speedrun slower.

​​@@ultimatecorgi3392I don't think so. Blood should just be a palette swap which I don't think would take up any more resources. (Granted I'm not a programmer so don't quote me on this.)
I think it's the default color for the blood in the arcade machines. (Japan has some weird laws around censorship regarding blood, and since this game originally came out in Japan they have to make the blood a different color so it looks less like blood.) During the boot-up screen you can see there's an option for blood (which is defaulted to "No") which is a toggle for international releases that DO allow it to be red.

I dunno if it matters. They only crashed when they were out of cannon shots but that's still extra damage from the shotgun and vulcan that may have made the difference anyways. (Otherwise you'd just be waiting regardless.)
Unless you mean it's not a no-hit run in which it doesn't mean anything.
