  • Belen to Dalies, NM in 4k - April 2024 - A meet, manifests, autorack, coal, grain and intermodals. This was another good day as there weren't terrible winds to ruin the audio. Not a boatload of trains, but quite a nice variety. I was surprised how many grain trains that I saw while I was out here. The area from Belen to Dalies is probably only 20-25 miles, but I stayed in Belen for three nights and I wanted to hit Dalies before I headed west towards Gallup and Winslow. I don't know about you guys, but I feel like I need time to adjust to my surroundings, so I may start with only one angle and then pick more angles another day on another visit. Thanks for continuing to watch, comment, like, share and subscribe.
It was a westbound kind of day as you will see.
0:00 Bnsf intermodal at Belen, NM westbound
3:03 Bnsf manifest at Rio Puerco, NM
5:05 Bnsf intermodal at Dalies, NM headed west
10:01 Bnsf grain train w/DPU at Belen also heading west
13:48 Bnsf intermodal at Dalies with an odd unit. As I was pulling up to Dalies, the Engineer was speaking to the Dispatcher trying to tell the Dispatcher that he might not be able to start his train if the train gets stopped on the hill. Dispatcher said that there is track work and therefore, only one main available and he wasn't going to stop a Z train for this train.
18:00 Bnsf manifest at Belen with a DPU headed west
20:28 Bnsf coal train entering the crew change point at Belen while a Roadrunner arrived at its station. Lastly, the grain train that you saw at Belen (Rio Road) earlier is now pulling out of the crew change point and it has to fill up its DPUs.
30:32 Bnsf intermodal heading west at Dalies
33:14 Bnsf intermodal meeting a manifest w/DPU at Belen
39:23 Bnsf autorack heading east at Dalies
41:59 Bnsf intermodal at Belen with DPU
and one last surprise SD40-2 at the end......Thanks again for watching

Thanks. Some great video and sound in this one. Great catches with the odd unit. Hard to say how many bits came from other units but I can see at least 3 I think. Nice SD40-2. Always a favourite. Might be dry desert country but I love this area and it’s a great place to see trains. Thanks again.

Thanks Richard. I thought that you would like the sd40-2. Because the area has that red dirt, it makes it nicer at golden hour. It was kind of weird being so close to that Belen camera because I have seen it so many times. I had thought about catching the up 4014 steam in July, but I don’t think that I will

@@Atsf1976 yes UP 4014 would be great to see. Only ever seen a big boy as a static display in Cheyenne. Not a huge steam fan but the 4014 would be something else.

That is one ugly unit, isn't it? It is cool at the same time because it's so different. More videos from New Mexico to come.

@Atsf1976 I don’t know how units like 4729 came to be, but my guess is that the hood section was swapped out after the unit had it’s engine overhauled. It’s happened to a few NS Dash 9s from what I’ve seen, so it’s possible.
