  • Spa-Francorchamps is a total beast. It's a race track that everyone likes and is one of the most anticipated races on the Formula 1 calendar every year. From Eau Rouge to Raidillon, Le Combes, Pouhon, Blanchimont and every other fantastic section on this race track, it's safe to say that i'm excited for the 2021 Belgian Grand Prix. Enjoy!

Very unpopular opinion: For that amount of money and the privileged life given to these drivers (yes they have to work hard and are athletes nonetheless) I personally argue that risk should always be part of the sport. It's an extreme sport, Skydivers, Mountain bikers, BMXers, Snowboarders etc too risk their lives every time they do what they love. Motorsport is no different.

Spa has always been special to me. I watch F1 since I was 3 years old and I have been the track already more than 5 times in my life. The Dutch crowd during the weekend is insane. Also I was there when Anthoine Hubert tragically crashed. My heart stopped. But that's racing sadly. Eau Rouge/Raidillon is in my opinion the most unique corner in the world. I love to watch from the pit exit on a higher seat, watching their exit through La Source, speeding up towards Eau Rouge/Raidillon and seeing them on a big screen or far away at Bruxelles/Turn 9. And like you said, F2, F3 and even touring cars like 24hrs of Spa are just so fun to watch because every corner is so iconic.

My father had the privilege of visiting the Isle of Man TT, he's a huge motorsport fan. Since his visit, his opinion on F1 changed immensely; mainly because I think he saw how different the Isle of Man world was - individuals risking their lives without the multi million dollar contracts. He still respects F1, and SPA will forever remain a staple of F1 racing. You just can't not respect those brave enough to risk their lives and go for it. The loss of life makes us all pause, and it reminds us that every time these individuals go on a track, they have to make peace with the dangers that come with it.

Until you watch the race live at Spa and experience the whole long weekend environment you won't grasp just what an amazing race it is. As for the track itself, until you have walked up Eau Rouge and actually seen the sight-lines, you'll never actually understand what a stunning corner it is- it is SO steep and you cannot see the top, you are completely blind going up it. I have a completely new level of respect for drivers who drive up that corner and don't let off- talk about big brass ones!! That and the who track area is so uncommercial- Montreal is great, but it's just always trying to get you to buy something. At Spa, you take a shovel and dig your own seat on the hill at the side of the track- preferably near one of the occasional stands selling beer and/or grilled sausages. :)

Pouhon i'd say, sure eau rouge is a legend and many many hours have gone there to find out the optimum angle of attack, you gotta cut the corner lol:D But with pouhon, you can approach it in different ways, and if you nail it just right you get a great run to the campus complex, and use that extra speed with the first outside to turn that into an easy overtake when it becomes the inside. And this requires you to nail bruxelles and more importantly no name.

I love driving Spa but the racing is horrific. More excited for Monaco Sunday than Spa Sundays... and Saturdays too!
I'm going to be seated at Les Comes! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay So hyped 🤣😭😭😭

Did you see the new official lap just posted (MAR22?) Looks epic. You are right - this is a classic. Only tracks that rival it - the original Hockenheim, Imola and Suzuka.

My favourite section is Eau Rouge through to Radillon and then down the straight, one tiny mistake that would lead to 0.010 seconds slower around a normal track makes this truly scary, it’s not only incredibly annoying if you get it wrong as you could easily lose up to half a second on that lap but also incredibly dangerous, the slightest mistake could easily result in a fatal accident. It’s the same reason I love the Nürburgring Nordschleife, it’s dangerous, long and so much history behind them, they are probably the two scariest tracks still in use for GT cars nowadays, no more formula one at the ring and people will say it was stupid they stopped racing there because Niki had a crash and didn’t have die, it’s ridiculous, if the turbo era cars went around there, we could’ve seen some absolutely horrific crashes, especially during qualifying with well over 1000hp on highly explosive rocket fuel. It’s a real shame but Motorsport will always be dangerous, it’s the same reason as to why the Isle Of Man TT isn’t part of the MotoGP championship anymore, too damn dangerous but they still hold events annually for the people who have the balls to put their lives in the hands of every millimeter of the cars or bikes, look at how dangerous Spa used to be, 340km/h in Le Mans prototypes in the 70’s past houses with basically no safety barriers. The main problem with Motorsport is that we all want to see it as safe as possible but then it becomes too predictable and boring, it’s still better than losing drivers with their whole lives ahead of them.

Spend 4 days around this track in 2019 during the gp. Never forget that weekend for good and for bad. Watched the race from Stavelot.
Danger is a part of motorsports. Corners like Eau Rouge need to be respected.
Mighty Mika move on Spa in the past.
