If you're like us, you'll be tinkering with ways to streamline and improve your teardrop camper experience. Here are 3 things we recently upgraded for our Tucana Teardrop.
That pop up tent looks very similar to the LightSpeed tent we use in the States. It is our favorite side entry tent. Last summer we picked up the Joolca Triple Ensuite from your neck of the woods. We love it! We have went through so many tents over the years and this seems to check off most our needs. Standing height, room for toilet/shower, quick setup, and best of all for us, two doors so we can attach one side to the teardrop. All to say, I think it is another good option for folks who want a bit more room, but still the quick setup and teardrown.
Cheers! from the western U.S. where we're putting together a 5' X 10' "squaredrop". Enjoyed your vid and your other half's sense of humor. Safe travels to you.
I like how you ran the portable weber off of the camper. While it is a Tucana modification there are a lot of other small campers that could benefit from this mod. We did it last year with the Skottle and the Blackstone griddle. We love our galley, but find we cook more on the portable stoves. So eliminating the extra propane bottle and just going from the trailer's native propane source has been really valuable. Love the upgrades you showed.
Thanks for all the time you devote to suggest improvements to our Tucana Experience . Well done and I love the comedy component too . Can’t wait for the next instalment ! 😊
Very nicely done video! I don't have a Tucana, but it's still great to see modifications and hacks others make, which prompts my own thinking about our teardrop. Thanks!
That's often the way it works, isn't it? See an idea somewhere, and think "hmmm, I can kind of make that work on mine too!" I do that all the time :) Cheers @rangertommy!
Hi, we are thinking of buying a Tucana, but live in SA where there is no distributor, so cant see one in the flesh. Getting on a bit and looking at moving on from tent dwelling (when on holiday). Enjoying your two vids thus far. Its probably early days for you, but are you able to give a rough idea of how much fuel (not sure if you are diesel or petrol powered) you are using when cruising on the flat, and at what speed do you find Subaru and camper are comfortable at. We have a Mazda CX5 which is loosely comparable to your vehicle. regards Pete
Hi Pete The Subaru is a 2 litre petrol and we get around 12-13 l/100km on average while towing. That's not just on the flat - that will include hills and dirt roads too. Our last trip to Blackall (this video) includes a few stretches of road that are posted 110kmh. On straight stretches we can do that, but the car is probably more comfortable at 105. If there is nobody behind me I'll tend to leave it there. You might want to contact Song or Sean at Stonegate and see if they have an owner closer to you that might give you an in person tour. Worth asking the question anyway!
@@tiatucana Thanks for the quick reply, just the sort of info I was looking for. We are visiting Brisbane in the near future and intend to check one out at Stonegate then
On ours, kind of but not really. There is a tap underneath the water tank to drain it, so you could use that. But you have to get under the trailer to get to it so it may or may not be practical. You've got me thinking about a possible modification though!

That Joolca one looks huge! The extra space would be useful having the kids with you too I'd expect.
Yes, it is huge! Probably too big for many people's needs.@@tiatucana

Thanks! I envy your skill - no way I could build one myself. I love that people do, though. Enjoy your squaredrop!

Thanks! We’ve just come back from a trip so I have a bunch of editing and uploading to do. :)

Haha cheers!
I'm a fan. Thanks so much. How about sites to take your teardrop? Love the accessories
I did one site review (Jambin) but yes, I should do more. Thanks!

Is there any water outlet for the outdoor shower from the teardrop?
On ours, kind of but not really. There is a tap underneath the water tank to drain it, so you could use that. But you have to get under the trailer to get to it so it may or may not be practical.

Me too as an extra when buying 5:08
What is your car for towing this? Thanks
It’s a Subaru XV. I think it’s called a Crosstrack in some parts of the world. (?)
Do you get a lot of dust inside the camper after going through the dirt road?
Not a lot, but definitely some. Mostly the kitchen rather than the bed at that’s not too bad
Hey a little dust tells its true blue camping
