My BEST build EVER and how I did it!

- We all do it. We all dream about one day being able to make what we want to make without compromising or taking design decisions from a client. Its one thing to do that while you have a job and another to do that as your job. Is the dream sustainable? Probably not, but I had to try nonetheless. This video goes out to everyone who dreams big and isn't afraid to bet on themselves no matter the risk. This is 3 months of resources from me with no buyer for the piece. Will it sell, or will my family suffer even more sacrifice? Only one can be true.
Please send me an email if you are an interested buyer. Your purchase would be a contribution to the craft and the dream of an artist being able to sustain a living while contributing beauty to the world. The sale of this piece will also grant a scholarship to one of my subscribers that wants to dive in to the craft but cannot afford to get started. More info to come on this.

As a new woodworker at the age of 62, I love the precision with which you work. We live in such a throwaway society. Pieces like this withstand the test of time.
Yap. Precision 👌😇
Incredible piece. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is mind blowing. Love that you showed the struggles you had on the build as well. Truly beautiful.
Ah Im glad you enjoyed that part. I almost eliminated it to make the video shorter.
THAT is a masterpiece ! It throws you to a next level and proves you've now your place in the high class of real woodworkers ! Thanks for this moment of grace !🤩
How many times did ya stepped back- stared at it and said damn I’m good!
Haha!
I’ll be honest.. once I dry fit the entire frame and I stepped back and looked at it.. I think I literally said “holy shit”
Definitely one of the coolest and most beautiful things I have seen in a long time you did a amazing job taking a seemingly boring thing and turning it beautiful
Much appreciated! Building free of criticism and specifications from clients is amazing
@@WilliamDouglasCo Hi Will I keep getting messages to text a number that saying it sent from you. Can you confirm this is you or a hack?
@@glenziga7464 absolutely NOT me. These people keep trying to scam everyone. I blocked their accounts but they keep making more
@@WilliamDouglasCo I thought so. Hopefully CZcams gets this under control. It looked fake to me. My wife says I can be over cautious but I was scammed in the past. Plus I didn't hear of a giveaway in the video.
It's like every component is its own project. My mind is blown at how beautiful this thing is and at the skills you've had to fine tune in order to make it all come together like it does. It's a work of art that belongs in a gallery... it also happens to hold your clothes. Amazing work man
Stunning piece of furniture and once it sells you have to be proud knowing that you have created a piece that will be passed down for generations. Great job Will.
Hey that’s right! Thanks my man, I appreciate the kind words
Brilliant. High functioning sculpture. Bravo.
Beautiful. A functional art piece.
Thank you very much for watching 🙏🏼
I'm over 60 and have been a weekend woodworker on and off for a fairly long time. Every time I see something like this it gives me the inspiration to try and get better tomorrow. I don't have nearly the skill level (or the equipment) to build something like this but it makes me happy to see that someone does!
That’s awesome to hear Robb! Whatever you are building is fulfilling someone. Keep it up.
When I was at school in the 90's, my classmates and I were always led to believe that wood word class was for the dunce. I really loved it, but stayed away and followed a different path, many different paths. Yet, each and every one I hated. I eventually went onto finance, then law and it was always a struggle. I live in China now working for a international law firm. I'm in my early 40's and I've had enough. Next September, once I've put some money behind me, I'm moving back home to learn your craft. I hope the fact that I've lost so much time 'ticking other peoples boxes' won't prevent me from being able to support myself by simply doing something I know I will absolutely love doing. I've just discovered your channel and it's an inspiration man! It really is.
Happened to me too with the same upbringing.. I'm in the process of building a work shop in my backyard. 33 years old. I find so much peace working on something. No where near this detailed and skilled though
So clearly I know where you folks have been! There is building things and then there is craftspersonship. You and your crew continue to amaze and impress all of us that watch you. Love that you guys show mistakes and overcoming them. Practice breeds proficiency which breeds efficiency. Period. You blew my mind with this one
Thank you big poppa. I wanted to be challenged and I wanted to do a large build that wasn’t commissioned by anyone. This is what the result was and I’m happy you liked it
After you finished with the dado set, I'm glad you switched the 10" blade around before cutting with it!! :)
So much work went into this beautiful piece. That tambour ended up looking amazing.
Attending a chair building class is something I would love to someday be able to do.
Alright,I have watched this twice and still am so amazed about the care and detail that has gone into this. There are few folks in the world that will dedicate the time to not only designing such a piece but also I think that the art of showing the process is lost on some. True. Mad. Respect.👊🏾
I really appreciate you my man. If means a lot to know that my work is valued to some capacity. 🙏🏼
@@WilliamDouglasCo “too some capacity “ that is the understatement of the year. You have no idea how much it is appreciated. Do not value what you do on likes and thumbs up. That is not the point. Being a master of a craft often goes overlooked. We see it. You may not feel like you have earned the title of being a master, but what you produce speaks for itself. You keep making shavings, we will keep showing the love👊🏾
I want to know the price????
Incredible design and build Will!! Congrats. Thanks for always inspiring
Beautiful work. I always enjoy the small details in your designs. Most of all I appreciate the effort you put in to your local community. We know how hard you worked for what you have and it is wonderful to see someone that has made their community a priority from day one. Thank you for sharing another great video. Good luck with the giveaway. Its incredibly generous.
spent a most of last night clearing out shop space trying to get myself back to making. A video like this makes me really want to invest time back into the art of wood working.
Beautiful work. I’ve missed watching your build videos; they always have a difference flair and uniqueness. This is, like all your other work, pure class.
I hope you and your family are doing well. All the best to you and I hope you’re able to upload some more builds soon.
Simply amazing Will! Wow!
Hope you're doing well Douglas, your videos and your woodworking were really high quality. Wish you all the best to you and your family.
Wow, that OD. Love it.
Your videos have helped me become a better woodworker. Thank you!
This is incredible. The craftsmanship behind all of this is top notch! Beautiful work!!!
4:08. Glad you switched the blade around. Love your build! Thanks
that is one of the most stunning pieces i have seen for a while. i am a hobby wood turner, and i have recently started restoring furniture as and where it has been needed. great work...
This is phenomenal, gorgeous and I love the continuous grain tambour door… wow!
Hey thank you!! It was a fun project
Awesome, thanks for sharing.
Absolutely superb. I retired at 75, but I still need to produce an income, and I want to improve my skills to be able to be as creative and as "perfect" as you.
Work of art!!! Such next level skills!!!
Form follows function. This build is a perfect example of that mantra. Absolutely beautifully done.
Holy crap!!! That is outrageous!! So cool!
Very beautiful amazing work and craftsmanship
Totally beautiful and absolutely a piece of art as well as being a stunning, practical piece of furniture. Bravo to all the artists involved, outstanding. 👏😀👍
When you can combine form and function to create functional art that is also heirloom.. there’s not a lot that feels more gratifying
That's amazing you're an inspiration. Thanks for sharing this. Hopefully I can make something like this one day. I'm trying to start my own woodworking business in Texas.
On another level, in all aspects! You’re doing it right man!
Beautiful design and stunning craftsmanship
Sweet, been watching for a new video
Stunning. Very cool to watch the process.
That door is fabulous. Keep up the good work.
Amazing design & craftsmanship!!!
What a beautiful piece Will, Also good luck to everyone on the giveaway!
Fantastic! Concept, design and execution, Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate you watching!
Simply perfect.
Dude - that piece is beautiful! I'm always so stunned and impressed by your level of attention to detail.
Incredible design and execution. Thanks for showing the speed bumps you hit with the veneer and the solution you found.
Absolutely! I almost cut that all out to make the video shorter.
Gorgeous and great attention to detail. It will make a great addition to someone's home!
Hopefully not my home 😅
Excellent build, love the hand tool work.
Awesome build. I'm in the process of moving so I have not been able to work in my shop. Watching this really makes me want to get things going this year soon. Great work!
Wil-
I had to watch it again, amazing project, first time viewing I’m just enjoying the content getting ideas and admiring the work. Second time watching your video I’m paying attention to joinery how sections are laid out to to consider wood expansion and of course I always like to pay attention to the tools you use in comparison to the ones I own. Again, great job- I have to agree this project takes the golden hammer award.
God willing, see ya in class.
Much love!
-JoJo
Thank you so much for the kind words jojo. I did see your email the other day asking about the chair class but it seems you figured out the answers to your questions before I could respond. Let me know if I can help!
Magnificent work.
Speechless, you are one of the reasons I got back into woodworking, the way you are so precise, yet gentle with each piece of timber you use. Respecting what that piece of timber can do for you. Huge respect mate 👍🏼
I love to hear that I have inspired you. That is the best feeling and compliment. Thank you 🙏🏼
Outstanding video and even more so with this build. What a piece!!!!!
Really enjoy your work, but I got this reply from you site saying I had won something. I am not sure I understand this and don't need to win something. Maybe you should check your site and see if something weird is happening.
Craftsmanship + Patience + Perseverance = Masterpiece.
You are amazing! Admiration and respect.
Thank you so much for the kind words 🙏🏼 really means a lot to me.
Oh man that is a thing of true beauty!
Incredible work!!!!!
Outstanding amazing
After just upgrading from my beginners tools after 2 years of finding woodworking my shop burnt down. Seven months later still fighting with insurance and watching videos to learn more. So glad I came across this channel to keep me dreaming
The tambour detail and the curved supports are absolutely wild. Amazingly clean build 👌
Much appreciated! I love the way the tambour turned out as well
Amazing !
Fantastic 👍👍
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this build! I was mesmerized throughout the video, with an incredible end result!
Thank you John!
Being an early subscriber, feels like I've kinda followed along in this journey of yours, reminding me of an ancient Greek poem, "Ithaka".. Seeing how an artist evolves through videos is one thing, but watching you keep that motivation and that no-holds-barred commitment to the craft is something else, dear Will. This piece is what you're built to create honestly. Humble and sophisticated, but also wildly screaming the sacrifice, sweat and tears needed to imagine, design and sculpt such a marvel. Will sell for sure, no worries. Worry only for the next adventure, even bigger than this since you are not to be stopped my friend!
"As you set out to return to Ithaka, wish for the road to be a really long one..."
Love and respect from Greece!
This was beautiful to read. I really appreciate you taking the time to write it. It’s awesome to hear from someone who’s been watching me endure the struggle and it is even more amazing to hear the emotions it makes someone feel. Thank you for the positive energy and optimism. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Outstanding
Hot damn! That piece is awesome! I can’t afford it. I don’t need it. I don’t even have a place to put it… but I WAANNTT it!
I want it too! 😝
What an amazing peice.. all my spare time is spent watching woodworking videos and I love the craft and have been working a lot to make become a more precise woodworker and learned a lot through many many failures and these videos are inspiring and show just how much room there is to grow. Also your cinematography is outstanding easily the best quality videos out there! I hope this channel continues to explode so folks see your incredible work!
@WilliamDouglasco. You almost had me but your account was created two months ago with 1 subscriber 🤣
Now that is what the world needs right now... Kind gestures like this!! Good luck to whoever gets this opportunity (psst ... I'll take it 😉 ha ha). 🙏
Haha thanks man, if it sells you’ll here more about the scholarship
Bravo, Will. Nice work!
Thank you!
I am a Master ( Schreinermeister), here in Germany. Man this is a Masterpice. Really beautyful work of art. That is hight end. Man really awesome job!!!

Simply one of the finest pieces I’ve ever watched built. Taking one of your classes would be an absolute dream, I hope whoever ends up with that honor makes the most of it!
🙏🏼🙏🏼 hopefully the piece sells so I can honor it
@@WilliamDouglasCo I have no doubts that will get snapped up as soon as the right person sees it!
Very Nice!
Persistence pays. Hats off brother.
Beautiful!
Just Beautiful...
Andrea...
Nice piece! Very well built!
Total Boss Piece. Well done man!
The tambour door is awesome. It was totally worth the extra effort for the continuous grain.
I think so too. I am not a fan of regular basic tambour doors. If you are going to do it.. do it the best you can
I can only image the hours spent just editing the video, let alone the hours to build the piece. Very nice.
I appreciate the validation there. It’s been a long time coming on this one. Hope it gets some love
You the man! 🙌
Hi from Australia
This is an awesome piece of furniture!
Great craftmanship and outstanding design.
I have subscribed and will be watching a lot of your older videos.

So frickin beautiful dude! 100% one of the best pieces of furniture designs and builds I’ve seen on here 🤙🏻🔥
Awesome! Something I would’ve never thought to make.
I honestly designed it for myself and after the first month I knew I couldn’t afford to keep it
Beautiful work, dude! Really stunning piece! 😃
That's a real work of art!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Much appreciated 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Holy crap that was a ton of work. Truly inspiring. Loved the video. What a piece!
That was the longest edit I’ve done to date. That was a huge workload
Incredible build! You’re the man WD, totally inspire me to take the extra time to make each piece better
Love hearing this 🙌🏻
Cool item. Respect. And super that you talk about doing something for other people. If we all try to do something maybe in the end we will get to a better place...ciao from Greece
Holy shit this is absolutely fantastic!
Absolutely stunning.
Thank you very much!
Sick. Awesome work. ❤
Very cool.
Amazing
Wow, this is awesome. Woodworking at its best. 🙂
Thank you!!
Very nice 👍
Just bought my first table saw last week, its a super cheap one from Parkside, but can't afford a better one.
Even so, man does it save a lot of time.
Planning a custom table expansion with t-tracks for it at the moment, so I can cut bigger stuff on it.
Love how precise you are, amazing work.
You have entered the rabbet hole haha thank you for watching
Josh from Africa I have been really inspired by your works.
Thank you for watching! 🙏🏼
@@WilliamDouglasCo you're welcome Sir,
Probably the best looking piece I’ve ever seen.
amazing design and build
Amazing work. This is what patience and practice get you. Remember, if you’re not trying, you’re not learning.
I really wanted to challenge myself with this piece and I got a hell of a challenge
@@WilliamDouglasCo that veneer would have driven me crazy. Now I know what glue to use with shop made veneer. Thank you
You worked very nice
