    For first-time Garmin users, when you get your first device, it may be confusing to understand the difference between Garmin Connect and Garmin Express. Both perform different functions (and some similar) and in this video, I'll outline the differences between them and when you should use one versus the other.

    Good stuff mate your videos are to the point and professionally done . Last week I bought a Fenix 3 hr but returned it I did feel a bit let down by the screen resolution. I know the focus is battery life and there's a trade off but had to get a refund. I picked up a forerunner 235 and I love the size and weight and but better screen it's more suits my workout routine . Thanks anyway keep it up .

    As a new Garmin user this was very informative. It seems to me Garmin Express is legacy software harkening back to an era where their wearables did not have Bluetooth/Wifi and the only way to move data off the device was through a cable to a PC and from there to upload data on a phone/web. I guess their web service would have been in its infancy, able only to display data uploaded from the wearable with no configuration options. How things have moved on. I wonder when they will eventually get rid of Express.

    This guy did a terrifice job at explaining the difference but my criticism is directed at Garmin. Is there a reason why they needed two platforms ? Furthermore, I have had my Garmin for two years and havie giving up trying to figure out the web based Garmin Connect and therefore I use mine to track my distance and that's it.

    One question: do you export your workout files sometimes? As you probably know, you can save them as GPX of FIT files, which can be used for various purposes.
    I usually do it via the Gamin Connect desktop website. It seems that it isn't possible with the mobile app or with the mobile version of their website. I don't find it very practical, for instance, if you need to have the file on your phone. The solution I found was to download them on my computer and send by email to myself, so that I can open it on my phone.
    I wonder if other people have found better solutions...

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Před 7 lety

      Thanks so much! Unfortunately, no - from all the poking around I did, I have not found a way to do it on mobile...only desktop. If someone else has found a solution, I'd also love to hear about it!

    Hi DesFit, Garmin Express caused major problems with my year old desktop Mac, to the extent that their technical support team told me to delete it, following which the computer reverted back to normal. Obviously I don't wish to go this route again. So my question is, do I have to use Garmin Express at all, though you say I need both? Many thanks

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Před 3 lety

      Garmin Express is pretty much only used for transferring purchased tracks to music-capable wearables and it's also used for some of their automobile products. Nearly everything including firmware updates are now through Garmin Connect mobile. However, there is also the option of using Android file transfer for file transfers which is actually what I use.

    Sounds like no point then for Garmin Instinct with no maps built in vs just syncing with mobile app? I know the connect app can also do firmware updates just fine.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  Před 2 lety

      Yup, no need for Express with the Instinct. I should also add that this video is a few years old now so some things have been offloaded to Garmin Connect mobile and the need for Express is getting to be less and less.
