Re-padding the front seat in my 1959 Chevrolet plus installing seatbelts Part 1

  • I got the Bel Air's front seat out and stripped down to the springs. Now I need to cut new burlap, run the many little wires through it before installing new foam. I got all my foam and whatnot down from the garage attic, only having to purchase new burlap as I could not find the burlap I have. I picked up a can of spray adhesive too.
Before reinstalling the seat covers, I got to stitch new fabric to hog ring the cover back to the frame, as the past guy that did the upholstery job, used the fabric off the original seat covers and it is shot.
It looks like the seat belts will go through the back by the springs, so I won't need to cut anything to bolt them in.
Anyway, stay tuned or better yet subscribe to my channel so you don't miss any videos on re-padding the seat and installing seatbelts.

Good vid! 1985 ish (I was 18) I bought a ‘76 OLDS Cutlass Supreme, dark blue 2 door for $1k. Only 86k miles but apparently hard miles if you will. HA! Rear quarters rusty along w/ some other areas. I had quarters cut out for new metal. Had car painted by my bro in laws brother. Came out great! I also had seats reupholstered w/ same alike new white vinyl. The upholstery guy was just then learning the trade. Charged me $75 per bucket seat & $100 for the rear. Came out great. Bet it’d cost thousands nowadays. Loved that Oldsmobile! It would float down the road on new Firestone white letter tires of the day. Anyway, just sharing good times. I’ve had a bunch of cars since then but always regretted selling that one. Oh well. Good video! Thx!

FedEx required us to wear gloves for everything we did. We had 5 different types of gloves we had to wear. I am glad now that retired.

Howard, I used seat cover kits and foam pads on my 66 + 73 Bugs and it made the world of difference in comfort. Fortunately even the 66 had factory shoulder belt anchors even though the car came stock with lap only. So both ended up with shoulder/lap belts in front and rear. Great project!

Anything will be better than it was. I would get a backache after a couple hours of driving, on those occasions when I take the Bel Air on a road trip. I would like to do a road trip in it somewhere this summer, I hope.

The dime you found is 90 percent silver. Worth a heck of a lot more than 10 cents.

Man, that car deserves the original style seat covers from ciadella, ive been watching your videos for years.

Unfortunately they don't make correct "Bel Air" covers, as I already looked into them. I even contacted SMS interiors to see if they had anything. Neither did. I don't want Impala covers in the Bel Air! The covers I have are still ok and look good, so I'll reuse them. Ciadella does offer a foam pad kit for almost $400, but it states in fine print, it's 2" foam that may need trimming to fit. I have enough 2" foam to do a few seats.... the foam cost me around $50 a few years back. I wish someone did repo the 59 Bel Air sedan interior. I would put it back to original in a heart beat! The Bel Air has always been a fun driver for me, so it docent really half to be totally 100% factory correct. I don't want to ruin the car by making it too nice to drive.

The glove is a good idea!! Lots of germy hands out there. I stopped eating at a local fast food joint because management allows the kids to play on their phones while they are handling food. Nothing nasty as a cellphone.

I can't remember the last time I had fast food..... I rarely eat out, other than breakfast at Haney's once or twice a month.

It's always great to find little trinkets to bring you down memory lane. Are there anymore pics you could use to help with the placement of the belts? I certainly can take more if you need them. Looking forward to seeing the seat finished.

There is only one place where I can install them without cutting anything..... thats where they're going, lol. Yeah, it was nice finding the keys, coins and other junk. Within the next few days I hope to get more work done on it, maybe installing the rear belts.

I need to clean it up..... then it will end up in the Bel Air's ash tray.
