  • SLOT AND GRAVENBERCH WON IT! | Ipswich 0-2 Liverpool reaction
Liverpool kicked off a new Premier League season and a new era under Arne Slot by beating Ipswich 2-0 on Saturday.
Goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah ensured the visitors overcame a poor start to take all three points at Portman Road.
And Reds reporter David Lynch was impressed by the combination of mental strength and quality shown by Slot's side in their opener.
Here, he assesses a fine second half performance, with the manager earning credit for his tactical tweaks during the break.
Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah are also singled out for their contributions to an impressive start to the campaign.

Gravenberch looked good in defensive midfield. (I don't understand why Klopp didn't try him there last season.) But, that was against Ipswich. We'll have a better idea when they play Manchester United. As of now, they still need a world-class defensive midfielder.
Quansah is not a starter. Robertson doesn't seem comfortable in this system. Mac Allister and Szoboszlai have to do more. Diaz decision-making is still poor. Jota is not good enough to start.

Ere there’s a 3 min interview with Slot on T NT with Crouchy and Joe Cole and Arne’s take on the game is, and he’s the first manager since him to winning the first game, he has Bob’s uncanny vision…how he assesses both half’s is very impressive…
Our fans were chanting his name towards full time, and it looked like he wasn’t going to go on the pitch at full time until we sang his name again, when he came over…he couldn’t hide his delight!
Player wise, if you watch the interview, he doesn’t mention the midfield…he said it was the defence and attack he tweaked at half time…

No need for a new 6 if Ryan Gravenberch carries on playing like that. Surprised Jota was replaced with Gakpo (to play down the middle) and not Nunez-perhaps Slot was sending a message to both (Gakpo had said publicly he wants to play on the left). Don’t know what Nunez is thinking if he is 3rd choice down the middle. Really don’t see any reason to sell Gomez unless he wants to go. He should make the squad at least.

Great analysis and continuously encouraging from the new manager. However over this very long season, given that the Champions league has more games in it's new format,we will need a larger squad and few signings.I love how there was no hesitation from the manager to sub players and change it up tactically, as I can remember in some of Klopps games some of his substitutions being too late to have an impact. This doesn't mean I don't think Klopp was great, just that each manger has their strengths and weaknesses . Slot seems have an ability to immediately adapt tactically in situations of adversity.

First half was lacklustre and pondering. You could see we were trying to play out from the back but the Ipswich press was choking us. Our players were too static as we tried to play out which means beating the press is practically impossible. No players were willing to be the man who knocked the ball past the pressing opponent to initiate breaking through the press into a dynamic attack.
Obviously second half was a different story. Bradley looks good. Team still riddled with bad final ball decision making or just plain bad final balls. Plenty to work on but pleasing all in all. Thanks for your excellent analysis.

I don't think the 1st half was as bad as people are saying. It was def not great, but not as bad either as is being made out. Many have been saying Iswich were much the better side, but I think it was overall pretty even and we ran the first 20 mins and could/should have scored twice, but they made a couple of great blocks.
I see the first half as below par, but also we made them work very hard, and they paid for their aggression with 3 yellows (and should have been a red for 2 yellows, plus many more challenges they made that could have been carded). It was also clear they had spent a huge amount of energy and would likely pay for it in the 2nd half - which they did.
Anyway, completely bossed the 2nd half, and could have scored a hatful.

Steph needs the loan because I don't think he is ready to step in to be rotation and he needs more game time which he won't get right now. Reason we need high level under studies is to mitigate injury situations and dip in form at crucial times in the season. Thats what has lost us 3 league titles, lack of quality cover

Gravenberch played well but he’s not a 6. I really like him but we will be throwing him under the bus if we expect him to do this against arsenal or Man City. I guess that’s when Endo plays. At least if gravenberch is willing to fill in as a 6 he will get plenty of game time which he needs.

It’s a huge possibility between now and August 30. Obviously Liverpool won’t give him away but the likelihood is a lot of clubs will chase.

Are the referees carrying on their agenda? A deliberate handball by Burns was a yellow card which would have been his 2nd so a sending off but the officials decided to ignore it. Once again we play against 12 men.

Gomez not in the team means he going to leave? What logic is that? There is just not enough squad place. So Liverpool sign a new defender Eillot or Jones is leaving?

    • @davidlynchlfc
      @davidlynchlfc  Před 25 dny +4

I think with Harvey he maybe didn’t think it was the game for him given how much emphasis was on physical duels. And Jones maybe wasn’t needed with Gravenberch playing so well. We’ll see plenty of both though, no doubt about it!

Liverpool will not go for just any old number 6. We already have serviceable no. 6 options. They have gone for exceptional no. 6s as they come available and not compromised on quality. There's no use spending big for a no. 6 who is only as good as we already have.

Salah MOTM the great assister?? Who would have thought Souness could be so wrong? Rule no 1 CLASS is Permanent, yeh lost a touch of pace. Superb player. Slott keeps this up and Salah stays and sees it out with us. That is what he is doing for new year decision.
I thought Slott changes were imperious at half time. Gravy Shobo, trent and Mo made a Brillisnt Flank for us. Ipswich tired and we got stronger. Theybwere bound to chuck the sink at us. Last year with Klopp we would be trailing with gaps everywhere Luton?? 0 0 at half time and the Tactical Genius takes over. Should have scored at least four Jotta and Salah? As for bloody diaz, lots of effort no cuttinh edge and worse of all. 1 he doesn't accept his role. 2 he plays for diaz utd. 3 total shite on his chances converted. Very costly. So many including you rave. You dont get it. Salah MOTM gravenbircg close behind. Some of trents passing is different level but slott shows him how to bend a ball? Ha ha that was brillint.
I thought Shobo looked strong, powerful, quick and sharp best game in long while much better further forward. Looking up!!! Good win.
Where was Gomez?? The coach is aware....klopps little yes man is at last being found out. Fit, not even on the bus. And not way before time.. £40mill is a joke hughes. Championship player if hes lucky!!! I know you rate him. That is sad. Klopp had him at left back was a farce. My granny in hercwellies was better. Sideways, back, sideways back. Nose bleed in the other half. Awful player liability. He simply will not play if everyone is fit!
