  • This is BARIKE's very first album recorded in 1981 in Rabaul which has this hit,a medley of songs,La Bamba,This Land is your Land,Marrianne etc..
BARIKE Band existed before Computerised(digital) studios reached the shores of PNG.
In their era musicians had to be good, had to be able to play instruments manually when recording etc, where as these days, you don't have to be a musician at all, you can just walk into a computerised studio and with the click of a mouse button, magic is created ,and programmed music is waiting for your voice,a few more clicks and your voice can sound like Elvis Presley or Jamaican ragga rappers instantly. The computerised studios are disney lands where magic takes place unlike in the past where such luxury did not exist..
This first BARIKE album was was recorded using a very basic Tascam 4-Track reel-to-reel ¼ inch analogue recorder, mixing down through a 4-channel mixer with basic on-board effects and equalization to a ¼ inch 2-track tascam stereo reel-to-reel master recorder.Sound Engineer Greg C Seeto would do many takes and mix-bounce these to two-track, back to 4-track and continue overdubs until satisfied. Most of the tracks at the time were recorded raw [no fx and compression, etc.] Because he was a musician, the rest of the tricks and good output of the final production of those early recordings was a result of his creative imaginations-Recorded in Rabaul at Greg Seeto's Sound Stream studios which later became Pacific Gold Studios in 1983.Sound Stream was the first commercial studio that existed in PNG.Gov't NBC studios were also involved in recording.

Agree, Iam a Solomon Islander and this album reminds me of my uncles when they will play this barike album day and night. I was a child during the 80's but i can still remember all the songs in the album. Barike Band you are the best.... you rock the solomons and no one will deny that........

No PNG music of today can match those of early 80s. I am from Solomon Islands and a student Sepik Ag College mid 80s. Barike really rock PNG that time... recall of those times

Komnairima you are absolutely spot on-the era of great talents is definitely gone, today's musos just can't get it together, they just can't.

Goldhitz this is absolutely great stuff. I am not old enough to remember the early days of Barike so this is a huge eye-opener. I have almost given up on my generation's music simply because they do not have the musical genius and vocal ability that these bands possessed. Thanks very much for your work in keeping PGS music alive. PGS>CHM.

Great album. That era of live play is sadly gone. I have heard some popular bands play live and the sound absolutely painful. Cannot get the pitch correct, instruments out of tune, timing off and them the shout to compensate which makes matters worse. Luckily the Gospel bands can still play and sing properly. Which is a saving grace for ENB music.
