It’s just after midnight, Nov. 02, 2021, twenty-five years after Eva’s passing, and I wanted to write this vigil post commemorating Eva’s Quadrans-Centennial Anniversary and to celebrate her “Gift of Music” she left behind for us all. To me, it is the finest music ears can hear, and I thank God for those who were insightful enough to preserve it. I first heard Eva’s heavenly voice in Jan. of 2021, and I knew then, I’d found the Holy Grail of vocalists. Few artists ever caused me to weep hearing their music, but Eva evoked that level of emotion from me, repeatedly. Somehow, Eva’s creative, humble spirit paired with her bold, vocal perfection made a spiritual connection with me unlike any singer/songwriter/musician before. It was like finding gold and then developing gold fever. I called it “Eva Fever.” For the past year, I’ve dug deep into Eva’s goldmine of music, and my obsession has grown song by song, all the while finding we are kindred spirits in music and spiritual beliefs. It’s been wonderful being able to read so many stories about her, and today, I’m even more in awe of Eva’s life and her musical skills. I don’t think I’ll ever get over “Eva Fever,” nor will I ever want to. Many thanks go out to those who’ve preserved her memory. Addendum: To those who really hear the beauty and the quality of Eva Cassidy's "Siren" song, let this, my first poem, which references Odysseus having to adopt defensive techniques to sail around the deadly but enchantingly, beautiful song of the Sirens, be a warning as to the power of her music's seduction: Title: "Séduit par le Premier son d'Eva" (Seduced by Eva’s First Sound)

OMG incredible!!! Eva was only discovered after she died when her father released all her recordings. Apparently she never thought she was good enough!!!! She's incredible and died so young of cancer heart breaking !

She went on to release an album with Washingtonian Go Go Artist, Chuck Brown in 1992. Later, in 1996, the Eva Cassidy Band released, "Eva Cassidy, Live at Blues Alley." Plus, she had won several Washington D.C. music awards a couple years prior to her death (Nov. 02, 1996). So, she was not completely unknown. She had her own band, and she was singing and playing solo gigs in clubs and weddings. She just had not received the recognition inside and outside of Washington D.C. she deserved. One big reason was she would not sing just one genre of music on an album, plus the major recording studios were not creative enough to market an artist capable of performing several genres of music on one album. Grace Griffith initially made Eva's worldwide popularity happen when she contacted her record company, Blix Street Recordings about this wonderful songbird. Their CEO, Bill Straw, who learned from Grace that Eva was dying, contacted Eva’s Dad after her death about a possible album. Grief stricken, Eva's band members gave their permission for their recordings with Eva to be used by Blix, and Eva's Dad signed a deal with Blix Street's, Bill Straw. If I were to thank any one for Eva's recordings, it would be Chris Biondo, her recording engineer who recorded most of her work. During his first recordings with Eva, he realized she was the greatest singer he had ever heard and went on to promote her any way he could. He later formed the Eva Cassidy Band. . . For the rare videos we see on CZcams of Eva performing at Blues Alley, Pearl's and Fleetwood's, I would thank Bryan McCauley. It was his videos that played on "Top of the Pops" TV show teamed with Eva's recordings that pushed her over the top in England and many other European countries. Bryan was a good friend of Eva's who worked with her at Bernanke's Plant Nursery and followed her career. He even shot videos of Eva working at the nursery and driving a tractor. I think Bryan saw in Eva what Chris Biondo saw, and like Biondo, he wanted to get it on tape for the world to hear and see. A few years ago they reissued an enhanced version of Live in Blues Alley; it's called NIGHTBIRD: 2cds of the concert (33 songs) and last but not least, a dvd of 12 performances of the same concerts. It is in black and white and each song is shot from the audience with a single camera, which gives a home-made dimension.
This song both comforts and devastates me. I had it played at my husband's service 2 months ago. Until a person is there they will never understand what shattered truly means.
It's been almost four years for me. I understand. One song can bring me to tears. Valuable words that helped me are that you move forward with your grief, it goes with you. You don't ever "get over it". ❤️💔

I lost a sibling tragically then so soon after and when comfort was needed I think my loyal four legged best friend came back... as once in car every channel I tuned in was playing this Eva Cassidy song.
