Cool seeing Sam Rivers getting mentioned. He was one of my earliest influences.
Great bassist. His linea are so cool
I LOVE Tim C's playing it's just the perfect balance of funk, rock ,metal
I like rage with capitalism bass lines, commerford plays simple but so powerful.
People of the sun qet in free I'm sure.

no suicidal tendencies/infectious grooves?
Beasties Boys, Fishbone, Murphy’s Law, March 1987 at the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago. I was 18. Absolutely the wildest concert I’ve ever been to, and I’ll never forget it!
I love these documentary styles of videos. Keep them coming. 🤞✌️
Your videos have been such an assist in my bass journey! I always look forward to your videos and this doesn’t disappoint! Think you’ll ever put out a course? Cheers from Vancouver 🤘🏼
Great video… one band that always seems to be left out of this conversation is SUGAR RAY. Check out “Floored” 97 and “Lemonade and Brownies” 95. Absolutely incorporating rap, metal as well as other genres, before limp bizkit became a name really. I believe quite underrated.
Sir Mix-A-Lot and Metal Church🤘
Cool video. This was the music of my early teens.
Legendary tracks, the beastie boys delivered brilliant vibes.
R.i.p. adam yauch(most underrated bassist in rap!)
Biohazard in a small venue in San Diego was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to
Check out lofofora, a french band, 1994 and 1995 albums, they have some very good rap metal songs
Awesome video! 👍
The Beastie Boys actually started life as a punk band doing gigs with bands like the Bad Brains before their rapping career - so MCA is a bassist turned rapper, not the other way around. What about the Urban Dance Squad who were doing rap/metal in the late 80s & allegedly influenced R.A.T.M., or the Judgement Night Soundtrack (featuring ICE-T/Slayer, RunDMC/Living Colour, Cypress Hill/Sonic Youth, House of Pain/Helmet), or Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, RHCP or Primus.... all deserve a mention if you are talking rap/metal imho
Another fascinating video Paul. Well researched and educational. This is a genre I am not too familiar with, so it was cool to learn. Thanks!
In the UK a short lived band called Atom Seed really launched metal rap here 👍.
Cool video 👍
2:44 Like @stephenjchivers8075 said, MCA was not “a rapper turned bassist” - rather, the exact opposite.
That was not MCA on STAND TOGETHER it was the jazz band (BACK DOOR) and some other bass loops on CHECK YOUR HEAD
Judgment night bo
People sleep on Beastie Boys instrumental skills. Listen to the album The Mix Up
Sam Rivers! He’s the man ❤
Che ne pensi d Alejandra Villareal?
these bands always had kinda mid and lame singers but always had s tier rhythm sections with great basslines alot of them started using expensive 5 strings too like warwicks
Polywog stew was the first beastie boys album
