Cool seeing Sam Rivers getting mentioned. He was one of my earliest influences.

Beasties Boys, Fishbone, Murphy’s Law, March 1987 at the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago. I was 18. Absolutely the wildest concert I’ve ever been to, and I’ll never forget it!

Great video… one band that always seems to be left out of this conversation is SUGAR RAY. Check out “Floored” 97 and “Lemonade and Brownies” 95. Absolutely incorporating rap, metal as well as other genres, before limp bizkit became a name really. I believe quite underrated.

Cool video. This was the music of my early teens.
Legendary tracks, the beastie boys delivered brilliant vibes.
R.i.p. adam yauch(most underrated bassist in rap!)

The Beastie Boys actually started life as a punk band doing gigs with bands like the Bad Brains before their rapping career - so MCA is a bassist turned rapper, not the other way around. What about the Urban Dance Squad who were doing rap/metal in the late 80s & allegedly influenced R.A.T.M., or the Judgement Night Soundtrack (featuring ICE-T/Slayer, RunDMC/Living Colour, Cypress Hill/Sonic Youth, House of Pain/Helmet), or Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, RHCP or Primus.... all deserve a mention if you are talking rap/metal imho

Another fascinating video Paul. Well researched and educational. This is a genre I am not too familiar with, so it was cool to learn. Thanks!

In the UK a short lived band called Atom Seed really launched metal rap here 👍.
    Cool video 👍

2:44 Like @stephenjchivers8075 said, MCA was not “a rapper turned bassist” - rather, the exact opposite.
