Had this playing live at my mother's funeral yesterday, this song is just HER and I will always feel warm and happy when I hear it. This and the original are just magical.
Your mother has returned to the universe. We all will someday. It’s nothing to be afraid of…a celebration of life and a celebration of the universe figuring itself out
I was 16 when I first heard this song. There was a creek near my house that I would always go to when I wanted to be alone and something about this song brings back the feeling of peacefulness and tranquility I felt laying back on the grass, looking up at the clouds or at the stars while this song plays
Still one of my All Time Favorite Movies. A must for everyone to see! The Beatles music and message is bigger than a decade or a generation. It is forever.
OMG! I'm 62 and didn't even see the movie until about 3 weeks ago! It is what I call " PERFECTION!" I am a soloist( sang since 3 of age) and I enjoyed the movie from beginning to end! There wasn't one person who didn't sing great! The harmonies were so perfect it is as it should be: as if one voice! I loved seeing a few of my old rock singers in it that only peole my age would have recognised;- that sang and played cameo parts( appearances)in it. I loved how the girls sang Beatles song so GREAT!
I completely fell in love with this song since the first time I got the chance to hear it. I loooooove this version, the ATU team really did a great job with The Beatles legacy as they deserved.
The string instruments (cello, bass, etc) in the beginning make me get goosebumps. Its so powerful, I love this rendition of a great Beatles song. Thanks for posting this.
I love this soundtrack because i love the beatles and Jim Sturgess does a great job singing it. I love it because it is a modern version of the beatles! Which is perfect for me!
Forever my favourite movie ❤❤ I was 14 when my older sister introduced me to it and I was MESMERIZED. Completely. From the storyline and characters to the imagery and music. To this day it's the only musical (besides Grease) that I love. I hope to one day watch it with my future children.
No, it doesn't! :D. Jai is from the word 'Vijay', meaning 'Victory'. In this context, 'Jai' is likely to mean 'All Hail', or all 'All Praise' 'Guru' literally translates to 'teacher', and is still a common name and title. In some contexts, 'Guru' implies someone who's learned, and well-versed in religious matters, or just an expert; for example: He's a financial mogul and a tech guru. 'Deva' literally means 'God', and the 'a' in 'Deva' is mute/soundless, so it's properly pronounced as the English 'Dave' in Hindi and other related languages. For example, we have 'Kaam Dev', (The God of Love), 'Indra Dev', (The Lord Indra), 'Shani Dev' (The God governing Saturn), and so on. Now Gurudev could itself imply lots of things, and is unfortunately, erroneously used by 'spiritual masters' in their titles. So, how much ever I like this song, they could have been trying to be esoteric, or literally thanking some 'guru' they were enamoured with, which could be true, because back then it was the time for these Gurus to appear (The so-called Hippie Period), or it could be just a verse they extracted from a prayer, something which TS Eliot did in his 'The Waste Land'. PS I am not Indian, just someone who has studied some languages.
Great song and very nice cover by Jim Sturgess, I really like this actor and he sings quite well, I didn't know he could sing like that, it's very decent singing, quite pleasant and agreeable, thank you very much for this upload :)
Beatles fan from early on, and I always liked this song, even before I understood it. Not a big fan of covers of Beatles stuff, but this one does it for me.
Yes, this is more or less the meaning of Jai Guru Deva. "OM" by itself can mean mean "peace", or is also used as a sort of spiritual ending to a prayer or cantation. Just like the Christian "Amen", which means, So Be It. I think this is the way John meant it it to be. He meant, let it be this way. I say, Amen and Om!
"I give thanks to Guru Dev (heavenly teacher) om" Om is just a sound. However a more detailed translation is: "Jai" means "O Hail" or "Victory to" "Guru" means "Teacher" "Deva" means "God/Lord/Demi-God" "om" some say is the source of all existence that comes from vibration
Thanks for your posting. I just fell in love with its sound last night when the memory lane back ground song played. “Nothing’s gonna change my world… “ in a very sweet voice nothing far from the … tree the Beatles. Amazing! Now I know there is a movies “Across the Universe” and the song name. Thanks a bunch.
I agree, I love the sound of the heads. They sound like a loose Evans Calftone '56 or a Remo Fiberskyn... But they also have too much of a fat sound to be something so thin... It makes me wonder what heads they actually used.
I wish I had a time machine so I could experience each decade and decide which one's the best. The '20's '30s' '40's '50's '60's '70's '80's '90's or Y2K ;)
Aw just admit it, the music from the movie ATU upstaged The Beatles on pretty much every song. There's nothing amazing about it. The Beatles were great for their time, but in their time the musical influences were much more limited and the musical technology was a lot more limited as well. It's actually not that hard to upstage The Beatles today, especially since you're walking in their footsteps to do it. Nothing against them, but ATU did upstage them by a LOT.
It doesn't have the line "Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns.", so, good as it is, I can't enjoy it more than the original.
TheReaverOfDarkness How can you upstage the Beatles with their own material? Depending on how you look at it, their music is timeless. Even if it it is rerecorded, it is still The Beatles. There will never be another band that accomplished what they did.
Well... The original has been deleted, along with all the other Beatles songs. Nice. I suppose I should have expected as much... So much for "music belongs to everyone". Oh well, I suppose I have the CD. It'll still be much more tedious than just looking it up on CZcams.
CrazyeyesDark I believe I read somewhere that Michael Jackson had purchased the rights to a lot of the Beatles songs. If that's true, it would explain a lot now that he's no longer with us...just saying. It's sad either way
I hope nothing. He will be experiencing exactly what his life on this plane brought about for him, as will every other human being born to this world, when they pass out of it again. It will be for him and him alone to face his own afterlife, without judgement from those of us still here.
Good cover, but the announcement at 3:00 "by Jim Sturgess" would mislead some. John Lennon, to his dying day, considered this song, written during his extended stay at Maharishi's ashram, his best. The Guru Deva praised here by John was Swāmī Brahmānanda Saraswatī, whose simple meditation technique Maharishi commercialized, complexified & confused, causing most Transcendental Meditators, including John Lennon, to give up on it.
This movie made the Beatles' songs more magical and they went ahead and put them into a story. On my top 3 list of all time best movies.
yeah yeah yeah (8) love the beatles and this movie is one of my favorite musicals all time! MASTERPIECE
It’s underrated alright! This movie I like. And of course Moulin Rouge and The Greatest Showman are my all time musical movies!

Sorry for your loss. It's a fitting tribute--the lyrics are beautiful and the music is indeed magical...as you said.
And now there is a hauntingly beautiful version by Evanescence to enjoy!
Your mother has returned to the universe. We all will someday. It’s nothing to be afraid of…a celebration of life and a celebration of the universe figuring itself out

Nah 2021🤗
I'm in love with Jim Sturgess' voice. Ughhh why can't I have him.
"You can't always get what you want."
Obviously...you are a very strange human being...an example of the "putrid humans we all have to live with."

I'm so happy John Lennon is remembered for things like this :) just trying to bring peace and happiness to the world
+Jake Dather While having massive anger issues and a nasty habit of beating women. Remember, he was a flawed man, just like everyone else.

Most amazing song ever. I could listen to this over and over and OVEr again. I love Jim Sturgess's voice! :)
I like how Sturgess' version sounds a little more 'Indian' with its instrumentation. Somewhat epic with that booming tom-drum, too.
Jonathan Powell Pink back pelican!
I agree with you!
This cover is definitely epic and I love it as much as the original ✌🏼
I am in love with this version.
i love this movie, love this song, LOVE his voice

I love this movie and Jim Sturgess is just 😍😍 I've been listening to his covers of this and All My Loving all day
Nothing going to change my world "The universe is one entity" bow or never knee down to anything!
If I was about to die and I could listen to one more song, this would be it. So beautiful.
this song is my daughter's favorite.
Awww!
Jai guru deva means "Give thanks oh heavenly teacher"
No, it doesn't! :D.
