Freddie with a burnt out voice is still better than any artist these days.
Way better than Justin bever. Music of today is a shame.
EXACTLY WHAT tells you that his voice was burned out? Because you are just farting at the wind to pretend you are in the know.
@@mickavellian I cant remember where i read it but they said Freddie the day before SNL got into a screaming match with a lover at the time and blew out his voice. You can tell his voice is still somewhat hoarse.
The situation with Freddie's voice is explained at the beginning of the video.
@Cankle's Fupa what the fuck? You can be straight and get Aids
This band banded the people together. I don't know any other way of describing the difference between them and other bands. All I know is how they make me feel when I watch them perform and listen to their music. I feel included. I feel that what they are doing is for us, just as much as it is for themselves. I am absolutely head over heels for Queen and especially Freddie. What a GIFT he was. A gift that keeps on giving and will keep on giving for generations to come. 💞
I love this. I feel the same way❤❤
ABSOLUTELY TRUE. It makes me cry how good they are
We can learn so much from Freddie and Queen. When you're not at your best you never give up you keep going. He said he was prepared to starve (and did )chasing his dreams. When the boys were about to give up Freddie said you have me now let's take one more shot. The rest is history. Queen #1 💖💖💖💖
Queen to me will always be "the perfect band"
Just wanna cry. I am crying. Please come back Freddie. We love you.
They didn’t stop performing there because of Freddie’s ‘deteriorating health’. It was because the album Hot Space didn’t sit well with the US which made them lose popularity and lost them for good in the music video ‘I Want To Break Free’ because the US didn’t know what Coronation Street was.
Actually, it was more to do with Freddie's turd of an assistant Paul Prenter who sabotaged requests for Queen to perform in the US so they stopped calling.
thank you! his health didn't start deteriorating til the late 80s
I heard it was more to do with Paul Prenter being a sabotaging little shit
He had a screening match all night that is the reason he didn’t have a voice.
Fantastic, fantastic...be blessed all!
RIP Freddy, you still missed here
Love you Freddie!❤
:( History's Greatest Singer.
I low key wish this was in the movie
Banda maravilhosa, lindos 💕
Freddy Mercury siempre serás ÚNICO 😢❤
Freddie was in perfect health when this performance was recorded. It was, however, their final tour of the US. not for health reasons, but for the simple fact that the members of Queen thought the American audience did not like them anymore after the release of the Hot Space album. Freddie also thought touring America was an exhausting effort he dreaded to endure. Both reasons mixed, they decided not to tour the US again. I saw this show when it was live and thought it was amazing. I also saw them live at Madison Square Garden in July of that year and it remains, to this day, the best live performance by any band I have ever seen. Please do proper research before posting something that is not true. It’s how rumors are started and in the end, it makes YOU look bad.
Also they were kind of pissed that the video I want to break free was banned on American MTV at the time.
I Want To Break Free was a 1984 single from the album The Works. This SNL performance was for promotion for a 1982 album, Hot Space. The track 'Body Language' from the Hot Space album was the first by Queen to be banned on MTV.
Wrong. He'd been to the doctor in NYS and had thrush, a known throat disorder in early HIV. He did not get into an argument with his boyfriend as it was well known he was on his own and in bath houses the entirety of his NYC stay. Although he was not diagnosed at the time, he was in the early stages of HIV. This is a fact and accepted by many of his friends and colleagues at this point.
AFTER 1982 tour hotspace Queen have a break in 1983 they didnt tour that year, when the album "the works" came next year the video I want to break free was banned in the US thats why they stop doing showns in América, nothing to do wirh Freddie health , because they do live shows until 1986, only there Freddie new something was not ok
Long live Queen!
I could not stop smiling the whole video because of how adorable John was. He smiled every time he saw himself in the monitor.
Brandi Mccarty
I Love John toooo. He’s just to cute for his own good. They are all adorable
It was good to see more of him.
I know! They also did "crazy little thing" earlier that night in the show and he dance a lot in that performance.
There should be a new word for how amazingly talented, adorable, and legendary this band is.
I just love replying to you and others about Mr. Magic, my Freddie
We’re just sharing an old friend in conversation and it feels wonderful
Thanks
“I won't be a rock star. I will be a legend.” ― Freddie Mercury.
He is right
Thanks for all of the likes
Wow
"OMg ThANx 4 ThA LIkEs"
Freddie cracking his voice is still better than a lot of the artists nowadays
That stage is too small for them!
Agree, it was too small, but that's why we get to see John on camera more. He was fun to watch but usually all eyes including mine were on Freddie.
I would say that the US was too small for the band..
@@roszela1 - My eyes were usually on Deaky. Saw them live and was fascinated by John. Too often ignored but not here.
The world was too small for Queen! Nothing perfect last forever.
They did arenas, saw them in London
3:09 Roger’s flawless ability to sing AND play drums at the same time is amazing!
Yeah, he helped out on vocals when freddie was poorly, a great friend always has your back!
Dawn Turner yes they sure had each others backs. True friends
Roger Taylor , Phil Collins , Don Henley and Leon Helms to name a few .
So is the guy that played for the eagles
Timothy Antoine yeah but Roger was the sexiest lol 😂
They were exhausted from a many months American tour when they did this show. Freddie had a cold, his baritone register was leaking thru, and the studio stage was much too small for him to move around much. But they all gave it their best and it was fabulous! 💛
Jim's girl ya they didn’t look thrilled...esp if he was feeling sick and stressed out..
Freddie looked rather miserable...I don't think he wanted to do SNL.
Add that to the nervousness of their first television performance in the US, plus television sound being what it was.
Actually, his voice was fucked up due to an heated argument with lover the night before
@@mactheslovac8673 Freddie at his worst is still better than most people at their best. I wish Queen had done a recording of Under Pressure with just Freddie and Roger.
John's got no business being that cute
His smiling y made me smile
True, but now he looks like Santa Clause!
Bronwyn J. McCartney yeah who said he could!!!
JJ Teacher I think you mean the drummer Roger Taylor!!!! He looks like Santa clause now but he was soooooo hot!
He has the Talent. That was enough
Probably the best SNL music guest ever...wow!
And the second is Nirvana
But queen will always be the best.
PATSFAN420 they literally are but go off
The Replacements will always be my most memorable SNL music guest. Or RATM, they tried doing what they do and then politics got involved. I can see why there have been artists who've refused to play on SNL because everything has to be so fuckin politically correct.
The sound on SNL wasn't always the best, but Queen overcame any technical issues and hit it out of the park
Absolutely nothing against Queen, Nirvana, the Replacements, or any of the MANY legendary performances SNL has been host to (if you haven’t seen Childish Gambino performing “This is America”, you need to), but the top spot in my book has to go to Elvis Costello in (I believe?) 1977- he had been booked on the show at the last second when the scheduled musical guest, the Sex Pistols, had to cancel “unexpectedly” after encountering Work Visa/customs problems due to criminal records of certain members- needing to find a last-minute replacement, Lorne Michaels “puts in a call for another one of those British new wave punk groups that everyone’s talking about”, and somehow Costello got the nod, haha... anyway, SNL, being legendary for censorship of musical guests, apparently tells Elvis Costello that the only song he’s allowed to play is “Alison”. So, in response, when they cut to the band live that night, after playing the first two notes or so of “Alison”, Elvis Costello waves off the band to stop playing, runs up to the mic and says “I’m sorry ladies and gentlemen, but given the circumstances I’ve got no business playing anything other than this”, and immediately launches into “Radio Radio”, his anthem against the evil, censoring, controlling establishment, and earned himself a lifetime ban from SNL in the process! Which, of course, means he did it right, haha... “they say you better listen to the voice of reason/ and then they tell you if you don’t then they’ll say that’s it’s treason/
so you had better do as you are told/
you better listen to the radio”
Genius. And totally legendary. Had the network producers clutching pearls, hahaha....
I highly recommend finding it and watching a piece of legendary rock history of you can. Sh*t’s important!
If Bowie had come out there to sing, I don't have the words...
Freddie, wherever you are, you are loved and greatly missed by the planet.
Not even as obvious here but John Deacon can really play that bass.
Jerry P he was so underrated back then
A guy called Lamont still underrated
The bass line on bohemian rhapsody? Extremely well written,
John was a unbelievable bass player that only members of the band really new.
Everyone in that band was great.
No one could sing like Freddie Mercury and there may never again be another Freddie Mercury. The man could sing ANYTHING!!
Oh man! John was in his element!! Love my Dancing Queen. Freddie fabulous as usual.
It's his immortal bass line, that's why!
My thoughts:
1) Deacky looked so cute throughout the whole video like omg my heart 💓🕺🏻
2) Roger covering up for Freddie knowing the fact how much its hurting him while singing had giving the biggest uwu feeling ever. How much he cared for him is wat it showed.
3)Brian giving Freddie encouraging looks in between and especially when Fred did that high note.
4) And of course Freddie giving a great performance as always even after how much his throat was hurting. At the end of the video you can definitely see that he well knew that this wasn’t his best performance but he loves his fans so much he did it for them. He was sad in this performance and didn’t have a very good day before
Savannah Ray undoubtedly they were a unit... they backed Freddie's sometimes musical adventures willingly and were always tight live...that's GREATNESS dahling....👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Freddie did not look happy at all in this performance.
I can't believe they were on SNL. Wow.
Im not sure what you meant in you 2 comment? Freddie wasn't sick during this time. He was diagnosed in 1987.
@@carlhart9604 he had a bad sore throat and was told not to perform
@@ericdobson1051 Thanks for that clarification Eric, I stand corrected...one Hell of a performance for a sore throat! 👍
Wow, those people who saw Freddie so close up there were born with some kind of luck !^^
마명희 i agree with you
I saw Queen live 5 times and my last time in 1986 i was in the 9th row at front of stage and Freddie was magnificent and easily the greatest lead singer of any band ever! No one greater than Freddie.
@@gedbill4058 Oh, really? I'm sure so. That's Freddie ~!!^^
I'm glad to see John finally getting some screen time in a live performance lol
Disco Deaky on maximum
What a talent, and what a loss to all lovers of great music.
Came here for Deaky’s smile, stayed for his moves. Bonus for Roger’s LET ME OUT and Bri’s Frogger shirt.
Even with a sore throat, Freddie could outsing us all❤️
Orla Kelly even ariana grande???
@@kylebrovlovski lol who's that🤣🤣🤣
@@kylebrovlovski He sure could, have you ever heard him sing Barcelona?
This was three years before Live Aid. Pretty sure he was still in good health in 1982...
Allan Williams he was. He wasn’t diagnosed until 1986. I read an article that said Freddie just didn’t want to tour the US after 1982.
His promiscuous lifestyle caught up with him, they finally had the money to enjoy their success after getting ripped off from their first record deal and Freddie got busy checking out the scene. It seemed that some people may have thought it wouldn't happen to them but it did. I'm not dissing anyone just saying it was a different time.
Erin Chambers He was diagnosed in 1987!
True!!!
I watched a documentary awhile back and it claimed 1984 was probably the year he contracted HIV just not diagnosed until 1986/87 Mainly because his sexual partners he had around that time also got HIV. They pinpointed it to a Russian friend that was introduced to freddie.
Oh my, Deaky is so stinkin' cute here! I love how his and Freddie's movements are in synch at :49 and 1:35.
0:49
Deaky and Brian were pretty in sync, too.
Deacury!!! 💖💞💕💗💝💘💕💞🥖
@@slurpiegames 😀
Everyone’s talking about the other band members but I have to say, I love Brian’s Frogger shirt.
Even feeling sick with a sore throat Freddie gave the performance all he had!
That's the signs of the you know WHAT
@@corduerorose9747 🙄
@@corduerorose9747 colds and sore throats from arguments are not symptoms of aids
Did they had an argument before this?
@@brunolobo7977 no but freddie got in an argument a few hours before the performance with Jim beach and blew out his voice from yelling
So hard for Rog to sing those amazing high notes and bang those drums at the same time. Not many drummers can do that. And... fill in even more for poor Freddie that night.😪
Yup, Rogerina is the king of multi-tasking😊..drummers who could sing back-up & reinforce the lead vocalist's vocals (whenever needed) is truly the backbone of any band..good job Mr Taylor..actually ALL members of Queen are working really hard to fill in for an under-the-weather Freddie..with such a great show of cohesion & camadarie, who needs a perfect performance?..I'm NOT in the least bit disappointed with Queen's one & only performance on SNL & in the States..Queen simply works..no matter what..♥♥♥😉😊!
Delilah Samsons great remarks😀
@@jodiwood5311 Thanks😊!
Jodi Wood Real drummers don’t ‘bang’ their drums. Does he look like he’s banging them? Great drummers have an amazing economy of motion. They may sound like they’re getting banged but, done right, it’s pure grace.
John Deacon's fretless bass performances will always stay very impressive to me...
4 brilliant musicians who became Queen. I’m speechless.
The statement at the beginning of the video is incorrect. Queen toured the world for four more years after this. They stopped touring the US because their popularity, believe it or not, was waning as their popularity around the world was exploding. Freddie didn't start getting sick until the late 80s. That said, this snl performance is great.
i wonder who were the lucky ones sitting in the audience
To bad Bowie wasn’t part of this . For its both there song. RIP to both Freddie Mercury and David Bowie.
Thanks for sharing this video!!
Roger's LET ME OUT is illegal
And his "READY FREDDEEAHh" for crazy little thing called love haha
LET ME OUT
That is what we call pure Talent !
I love Queen,so glad the young people of today are seeing the brilliance of Freddie and Queen
Deacy was Queen's secret weapon. I'll fight anyone who disagrees
Queen band was the best band that this world ever had.
What a performer he was. A better artist from a better time.
Best version of Under Pressure. Love their energy even after a long US tour.
Nancydawn13, Really? You don’t care for the original version, a duet with David Bowie? BC, that’s the one all others are to be compared to, IMO. I’ve never seen this version before. It was fabulous!!!
Check out Under pressure at Montreal. That is the best live version in my opinion.
First time I’ve seen this. Oh how I miss Freddie 😢
WOW! Great - They were working in such a tight space and are still projecting effervescence, Freddie substituting body movements in place of using a big stage. QUEEN! Even Roger singing got good camera attention and of course John is especially present. Not what I'm used to on other videos. Brian doing his thing is fabulously shown to the TV audience also. Yes. I'll be revisiting many times. Thanks!
If Freddie Mercury was still alive to this day he would be the number 1 trending. Change my mind
This was at the end of their US tour. In 1984, they released the video for "I Want to Break Free" and was banned by MTV because they were in drag. Freddie was so pissed off, he vowed not to return to the US until they had another #1 hit. They toured the world in 1984, 85 and 86, by which time Freddie was getting weaker. He was diagnosed HIV positive in 1987. Given 2 years to live, he lived another 4, recording every chance he had.
I had two friends die of AIDS in mid to late 1980s. The best advice they were given was to get into the gym and bulk up. The greater their muscle mass the longer they staved off becoming really sick.
If you look at Freddie's videos of the mid 80s you can see when he started bulking up. Then after a year or so you can see in more videos when he began taking the meds with the steriods in that changed the shape of his face. He was taking them in the 1987 videos of Barcelona.
In this video he still has his lean physique. This is well before he got sick. They toured the world two or three more times after this.
@@ClissaT Sadly, the 1986 Magic tour was Queen's last tour with Freddie.

I thought he must have been taking some kind of medication in later videos that made his face fuller. I feel so sad when I think about the people like Freddie who contracted HIV around the same time he did. They didn’t even know there was anything to be wary of at the time it happened. Such a shame.
Brad Marcus
I don’t blame him. MTV had no right to ban anything that a Music group uses as a prompt. I’m an American and I did anything that I could to protest what they did, so did my friends. We all LOVE QUEEN AND
FREDDIE MERCURY
Miss Freddie how much more music did he have in his heart
A lot, taken too soon. He was made to make music. He is a legend. Mercury is the perfect name... Messenger of the gods
Can’t stop rewinding this. I don’t want it to end
Still a legend after that shouting match.
This is when Queen was starting to be forgotten. I became a fan around 86 and most people thought they were broken up.
I just watched Freddie Mercury and Queen on SNL in 1982 singing, UNDER PRESSURE!!! Ya know, everything I hear that they do is excellent

This is the most I've seen of Deaky in a video and he looked like he was having a great time. Around 3:50 Freddie gave that quick head nod he does to Deaky and Deaky returned it.
So cute
Freddie's health wasn't deteriorating in 1982. He was diagnosed in 1987.
