  • From the Rockpalast concert November 3rd 1982 at The Metropol in Berlin. The Roches opened for The Go-Go's and the audience was unquiet, impatient and even hostile. But despite that the sisters approached them professionally, kept up their good-humoured attitude and delivered a beautiful concert.
    Setlist:
    - Losing True
    - Bad For Me
    - The Train
    - The Troubles
    - The Married Men
    - Want Not Want Not
    - One Season
    - Nurds
    - The Clothes Line Saga
    - Hammond Song
This footage is digitized from an old VCR-tape, hence the lousy picture quality. But maybe someone somewhere can supply a better copy, or, even better: maybe one day German WDR-television will consider to release this officially.

They are just otherworldly spectacular. Got to see and hear them live outside of Philadelphia. The sound system went out early in their show. They did the rest acoustically for about 2000 people IT WAS AMAZING.
Yakety Sax WITH Boots Randolph solo on kazoos?!?! It was incredible. They did Losing True as well....all the faves.

Thank you for posting. Their beautiful albums have carried me through the best of times and the worst of times since the 1970s. God bless Terre and Suzzy Roche, and may Maggie Roche rest in peace in Heaven.

One of my favorite songs ever, I was 19 and my then girlfriend was breaking up with me, she made a tape with this song on it, along with other 'heartfelt songs', but this one stuck. 22 years later, I'm still married to the most wonderful woman ever, we've had 2 fantastic boys and we're happy. My sister is still in contact with my ex and she's happily married with a family. Everything worked out good. Still love this song though.

This is the song that grabbed me when the album came out in '79. Still does. They were a gift to the world.

"Losing True" is the second track from the third Roches LP, 'Keep on Doing', released in 1982. You may be thinking of 'Hammond Song'', the second song on their 1979 debut album. It also features their powerful unison harmonies.

@@whatevershebrings Thanks, and in fact I never heard either until 1983, and I guess I always mistakenly assumed Losing True was of the same vintage.

@@alonzogarbanzo Methinks the songs share much in common, besides both featuring a Bob Fripp guitar solo (and production credit). They're equally powerful tunes.

That was one of the best ones live. I love being blessed to have seen, heard & yeah - 'met' briefly the second time I got to hear them.
Totally magical properties of the 3.
That is the key- 3 the first prime, the same 3 but totally different in the way they comport themselves but it's a singularity to my soul.1 wavelength with 3 molecules/molecular structures Bound For The Purpose of The One.
I'd like to have been there for every show to state, in advance of seating people so - at the entrance - a polite warning "We're recording this & we want you to be free & enjoy your time but if you HAVE to scream during a song I'll be throwing YOU out the door at the end of that song because it's not your kind of thing clearly. Why? it's pretty standard vocal harmonies. I agree it's not trivial, but incredibly difficult? I wouldn't go as far...

    • @will2741
      @will2741 Před 4 lety +4

They are very much not typical harmonies imo. Loads of points of the arrangement when one vocal changes and the others don't

I got the feeling that only the beach Boys had achieved such levels in the use of voices before these girls who would have deserved a wider audience.

I was thinking that it was a treat to hear the song unfettered by his technical wizardry for once! : ) I wish he'd/they'd chosen to produce 'Keep on Doing' as sparsely as the debut album. That said, you'll note that Terre has a phase shifter or chorus effect on her guitar, similar to the record.

It's a good song but it really needed Robert Fripp's soloing at the end to give it some punch.
They still pulled it off nicely though.

Mix is bad with the vocals too high and guitar too low, but they soldier through and do pretty well.

Nowaday Germans are nicer, but musically they can only cope with 1-2-3-4. It's no longer Mozart or Brahms or Weill. Too bad for them.
