    Thanks for watching! Let me know what you do to care for your succulents, we can always learn a new tip. These hens/chicks are my favorite because they produce endlessly.

      Thank you! It’s incredible I have 28 plants from one hen succulent I got 1 1/2 years ago!

    Hi, just a couple of things. I've never seen anyone use pine cones, interesting. I believe it would be just as easy to use a pot with good drainage holes. Using a cache pot with the cones seems like more work.
    I'm also wondering how the cones bio degrade after a while ? Lastly, I know these plants will grow in an ordinary medium. But I think beginner gardeners should know the value of a succulent/ cactus mix. How the ordinary medium will retain water ( not the best for succulents / cactus) and how the succulent/ cactus mix will not.
    Over watering is just about the biggest mistake beginners make. Good presentation. Many video's I watch don't really keep the beginner in mind with important details.
    Nice plants

      Hello, pine cones work great. I didn’t have gravel available, so I used what I could. After 3 years, the pine cones are still in tact. It’s always best to use slightly bigger drainage at the bottom of your pots to prevent dirt from falling through the drainage. I definitely agree soil is important, particularly a cactus/succulent mix. Regular soil can be mixed loosely with rocks for the same effects Thanks for watching 💜

    Why are the leaves of your sempervivum curling downwards?

    • @amongthewildspices
      @amongthewildspices  Před 3 měsíci

      Crowded in the pot and the roots needing room to grow and not become water lodged - they perked right up with more room 🙌🏻

    Thank you for this video! Do you have to sterilize the pine cones? Or can I just use them after gathering them from the ground?

      @amongthewildspices  Před rokem +1

      I used them straight from the ground! Sorry for the late response (just now randomly coming across this.)

    Do you or would you suggest bottom watering for succulents? I have been for my hens and chicks and they seem to do well with it. They’re definitely over due to be re- potted which is how/why I found your video. This is my second try at succulents 🤞

    • @amongthewildspices
      @amongthewildspices  Před rokem +1

      I think personal preference plays a role in that. With bottom watering it’s cool because the plant will get exactly the amount of water it needs, and it helps the roots grow strong and big… and I should do it from time to time, but I also enjoy watering my plants by hand and having my little nightly routine. Good luck on replanning you’ll do great.👏🏻

      How long after repotting should I wait to water? I read somewhere that you shouldn’t do it right away. I repotted yesterday. So far so good 👍🤞

      @amongthewildspices  Před rokem

      @@caitlin1074 you’re correct - let them settle for a few days (maybe 4), then water them.. then once the soil is dry you water again.

    Hi, do you have any tips for indoor plants, or do the same steps apply?

    • @amongthewildspices
      @amongthewildspices  Před 4 lety

      Cocoh 271 yes the same steps apply☺️, you will just water a bit less because they are inside away from the real heat. Be sure to have a plate or pot plate under your plants so any water that leaks through doesn’t get on the floor! Thanks for watching

      I don’t but I still have the same pot and flourishing plants! I completed replaced the soil last summer, which you should do for all your potted plants every 2 years💜
