For taping weights, foil tape for duct work does a great job. We use it to tape weights on race cars

crazy to me that we brag about being the land of the free but then you cross an imaginary line and become a criminal for fixing a wheel

That wheel repair scene sounded more like a drug deal lmao
Here in Europe wheel repair is a regular occurrence and it passes all inspections as long as the weld is not clearly visible.

I’m from portland and I’ve been watching your videos for a little over a year while fixing up my own e34 touring. You’ve taught me a lot about these bmws. It would be really cool to see this build irl. Gonna go to any car meets while you’re here?

Car looks awesome. Great you managed to get the rim fixed. Ironic that it wasn't anything in the mechanicals that let you down but instead a peripheral that could be repaired and what luck that you reached your Dad's place before the failure. Gorgeous scenery, but who's the mystery camera lady? You should pay her! Enjoyed the video, thanks for creating, editing and uploading.

@@m3nameisjosh464 I hope everything went well for you on the trip. And word of advice regarding a wheel not holding onto wheel weights, the surface has to be completely clean with no old adhesive, brake dust, pitting, or rust and sometimes the finishing coating on the wheel especially chrome rims when the chrome starts to peel off, it will just clog up the glue on the back of the wheel weights with debris and it won’t stick. When I worked at a tire shop for a little bit, I ran into that issue a couple times and what I did was I took a abrasive cookie wheel (which is a 60 or 80 grit sanding disc that goes on the end of a right angle die grinder) and use it to clean the old adhesive off. Sometimes if just cleaning the old adhesive off doesn’t do Justice, I go just a little further and sand down to bare metal. This takes off the finish on the inside of the wheel but you’ll have a better chance of sticking a wheel weight on clean unpitted bare metal instead of a pitted finishing surface. I also only do this on rims that are badly pitted on the inside but it works in a pinch and I never had a weight fly off on me.

These wheels would be illegal in germany. Repairing bended or cracked wheels is forbidden for obvious reasons. Repaired wheels have a tendency to explode into 1000 pieces on the autobahn at 200km/h. But since you only crawl around at 70mp/h or around 110km/h they should not do that.

    • @m3nameisjosh464

No way, knee steering is actually safer than hand steering. People who disagree also think you should go to jail for repairing rims.
