If you were asked to describe what a sea slug is, you might be tempted to go with the straightforward response: it’s a slug that lives in the sea. And you know, you wouldn’t be wrong.

please do another video about another genus of gastropods PLS 😃
"There is nothing wrong with being wrong" is an unexpectedly affirming thing to hear in a video about sea slugs so thank you for that. If even a master of microscopes is allowed to be wrong, then so can I!
It's so true! Although as a keeper of aquatic gastropods, I have to disagree with the "unexpectedly" part: one thing I learned pretty quickly is that there's so tremendously much to know! In my experience, gastropod people are very understanding and humble when it comes to others' knowledge of the subject. Even on reddit, r/aquaticsnails is generally a very calm place open for questions and discussion.
Being a channel known for amazing visuals, I am consistently impressed with how every single one of your videos has great audio too. Without fail you always sound great and play at a solid volume. In a sea of CZcams videos that are too quiet, Journey to the Microcosmos is a blessing for my ears. Thank you.
Or too loud! Perfect level across the board for all hosts.
And the music! Andrew Huang was a good person to do the music
I love sea slugs so much. They’re what I wanted to study when I went to get my masters in marine biology
I am from Alicante, Spain, and I love sea slugs, now that I know that they are here I am going to look for them religiously they are so adorable
i hope you find some!
That is the cutest little leaf sheep I’ve ever seen. 1:59
My brain short-circuited at the pronunciation of "nudibranch". I always pronounced branch like a tree branch. Because they have all those branching appendages. And they're naked. Nudibranch! And I was so wrong! New fact of the day acquired x
I didn't have the best of days today, but the combination of a new episode of JttM and the adorableness of sea slugs is unparalleled in its upliftingness!
How wholesome that zoologists have Nudibranch calendars. Presumably published by Playa Boy.
@2:07 one of my roommates in college was one of these. He used to steal and eat small amounts of my food, so I would not notice. Kleptoplastifier indeed.
How long could he stay photosynthetic?
One of my friends has a story about a flatmate who marked all his condiments tosee how much they depleted and then confronted them out of the blue with the evidence
So many voyages of exploration. James is indeed an intrepid explorer
I could watch so many many hours of these lil dudes.
Please look up "bunny sea slug" and be prepaired for the cutest sea creature.
I'm surprised how visually pleasing these sea slugs are to observe. I knew nudibranchs existed due to ZeFrank, but I never appreciated their beauty until watching this.
This video is so gorgeous. How cool are these little guys.
Thanks to everyone involved in the production, and thanks Deboki for adding your wonderful voice!
Deboki is also a very good writer.
This right here is one of the reasons of my interest in microscopy. Just how majestic, beautiful and mysterious everything looks when smaller than the eye can catch or just tiny in general ❤.
Kleptoplasty is my new favorite word!
Yeah I've been known to mix up nudibranchs and sacaglossans in the past as well
As a Dane, I am SO appreciative of your pronunciation of Jensen - well done!! Usually people that don't know Danish use a hard J, but you did it perfectly with the correct soft J.
Sea slugs are basically Pokémon
🎯🤣
Other way around- sea slugs came first
Aww man making me wanna go full ash mode good god I love nautibranchs there so incredibly pretty
@@VultureSkins Well, you're not wrong
I was just thinking, "These little guys are adorable!" And then you said so yourself, confirming, scientifically, that they are.
Just a thing of beauty, ain't it
If only the slugs that eat my plants were this beautiful, I wouldn’t mind so much 😂
Okay these lil dudes just might snatch the title of CUTEST MICROCOSMOS DENIZEN!
The little faces! The little wavy bits! The wee green lines! (yes, I already forgot the terms you used, sorry)
Thank you for taking us on a little "walkabout" outside the usual creatures!!
Thanks for the sources/citations!
Always good to be able to find the papers
Was just a matter of time before they resorted to posting Nudies.
Take my upvote and get out.
I'd buy the hell out of this kind of Nudie calendar! Maybe even a Nudie a day!
@@dianahowell3423 There's a market! Hear that, JttM? Merch idea!!!
i’ve found myself on that forum a bunch of times, it’s really interesting reading about these wonderful creatures that come in so many shapes and colours. Really good video
I love aquatic gastropods so much! While I personally keep freshwater snails, I've definitely came across seaslugforum when doing research.
Every time I've found myself amongst fellow mollusk-lovers, on- or offline, we have a wonderful time geeking out about how impressive and cute our little slimy subjects are. I sometimes even get in conversations with people who haven't given slugs or snails much thought in years who find it endearing that I have pictures of my snails on a keychain.
Is there a class available to learn kleptoplasty?
Only if you got a C in the slug class the previous semester.
Found my new favorite animals!
These are amazing! They're kind of mesmerizing to watch. I just might find myself falling into a sea slug rabbit hole...
Mollusca is one of my favourite animal types, such a varied group with strange shapes, colours and patterns, such fascinatingly beautiful little guys
Your videos make me chill after busy days in corpo job. Greetings from Poland. 😇
I just adore these little guys! Sea slugs are such a special bunch ❤️
Just spectacular. This channel is a joy.
I rly like the aesthetic thumbnail ✨
So glad you're back in my algorithm!!!🙌🏽💜
I'm heartbroken that these little guys didn't make it. 😢
slug in the sea it’s a sea slug yaaaaaay
Lovely visuals, as always!
What a great narrator! Thanks for that, Deboki. :)
holy molly it's so cute!!!
YAY LEAF SHEEP!
Yo JttM, merch of these adorable little critters when?
(I'd buy a plushie. No lie.)
These are so awesome!!!!
Makes me wanna study biology
What are the sea slugs at 2:56 called
Wow, I've never seen or heard of these. Where are they located?
What wonderful creatures!!
The microcosmos microscope was in stock for maybe 20 minutes today. How does that happen? Were there only 10 of them?
They look like the Elden Beast!
When are you expecting more microscopes? They have been out of stock for a while. 🤔
So the little guys passed away?
'.. confounding to decipher..' 🤔
It is hard, but nevertheless important to preserve knowledge nowadays.
Internet was promising tool for such task, but it is getting more and more unreliable.
Is there a way to watch microcosmos with no narration?
(just the music and the micro dudes)
Bizarre Beasts crossover episode.
I think it's new-ti-brikt
as they often do 😔
They are so cute. 😍
But so deadly. 😱
There are many, some are poisonous others aren't, although I would put them as micro sheep
Why donthey have to be so fricken cute😢
HEY! Your Nudibranch is showing 🙃
Who the hell wrote this?
Nudi time!
I don't understand why nature channels use almost exclusively completely weird scales for measurement. like here _400 micrometers for comparison_ - a measurement that is neither relevant to the animal's size in any meaningful way nor is it a milestone number nor does it mean anything to any average metric user. the scale should be a meaningful milestone number like 1mm so it would serve the only purpose it has, which is to make quick intuitive sense to the viewer. it makes so little sense and it's so widespread it looks like a joke the creators of these videos are playing together and laughing while they do it 😂
Sorry I don’t speak metric. How many of these so-called millimeters is there to a banana?
400 micrometers is 400 micrometer, just do the conversion, the scale is usually used for convenience
@@Solstice261 which is exactly why it doesn't make the slightest sense, as the scale is neither convenient or informative.
@@Eye_Exist yes it does, 1 cm is 400 micrometers, that's how scales work
@@Solstice261 and if you just read my original comment you see why that is deliberately inconvenient and uninformative, and what type of values instead they should use.
Nord VPN sucks. Astrill was always better
didnt watch a single second. long time viewer disgusted with the clickbait.
Why comment if you didn't even watch it? Also, they actually discuss how they found the website, what website it is... come on, man. You can be better than this.
I want that Nudi calendar lmao
I'm really sad James couldn't keep them alive in an aquarium 🥲
