Hard to stand out with so much Talent and Competition. For instance, Teena Marie never had a #1 Single or a Platinum album I think. Wiki says only 2 Certified Golds.
I can see why you would say that Switch is a good band and great sound but the competition was tough because this was respectively a new funk group goin against top bands like George Clinton and the Parliament, Ohio Players, and especially Earth Wind and Fire who had the funk and R&B game on lock at the time
One of the best bands that ever did it. Their talent was INSANE! They were called SWITCH because they constantly switched up the instruments that they played for almost every song that they recorded. Bobby and Tommy DeBarge from the talented DeBarge family started their family's musical legacy right here in this group.
I just saw Switch in concert this past weekend at Yoshi's (legendary Bay Area jazz club) and the show was amazing, and I do mean off the hook amazing....3 original members, and a few new guys, and even one of them has 20 years in.....some groups are just iconic, and this is one of them....arguably one of the best R&B acts ever, and I think it's because of the unique combo of each member being highly skilled with multiple instruments, and also having strong vocals, whether it's lead or background...Philip (Ingram) was the youngest of 4 male siblings, and he is the only one living....James, arguably the most famous Ingram, passed in 2019, and the other 2 were in 2018 & 2021, respectively.....Philip added a tribute to James, and sang a wonderful rendition of "Just Once" and tore the house down...it would have been nearly impossible to not feel the love from one brother to another.....I'm 60, and remember being in high school when they hit the scene...if any of you know the history of the Debarge family, you already know of Bobby's greatness....clearly the most talented Debarge of all, and this not debatable....El is the second most talented, and I'll stop there.....oh wait...I won't...lol Tommy (Debarge) was also part of Switch, and unfortunately, he passed also, quite a while ago, and Bobby didn't make it to his 40th birthday...well...there you are.. I know it's a lot, but I try my best to support live music, and this concert will go down in history as one of the very best I've ever seen at Yoshi's, and I've seen pretty much everybody (hardcore jazz usually, but will always support the old school R&B....current R&B is boo boo
@@KajunMs39 Yes, it was a concert of a lifetime, and I'm a longtime patron of Yoshi's, starting with the 2nd location...they're a lil long in the tooth for jazz, because SF Jazz (SF) has taken over that market...
Maaaan! If only we could go back! These were ARTISTS! We’re not having to look at pants hanging off their asses, tattoos all over their faces, not listening to auto tunes (music nor voices)… just raw and pure talent! Great song. Great memories.❤👍
A complete Band, no faults or weaknesses. Bass, horns, backup vocals and lead singer PERFECT!
That's how you woo a lady you respect! With finesse and charm, not forgetting truth!!!
Without Switch there would be no Silk Sonic..timeless music for both generations
Just like fine wine ..💖✨💌🍷
Songs from younger days were straight fire. There'll never be a better song!!
Right here! LOL RIGHT I am old but hey I still has my groove...this takes me back to my old days...love it...wow thanks for the memories...love it...❤❤❤❤😊😊
I knew Bobby when I lived in Hollywood. His cousin brought him to my house. Bobby was a good dude. He liked to get loaded. I remember when he got into some trouble in Colombia. I was at a loss for words. You don’t ever want to go jail in a 3rd world country. He eventually got out. He’s in a better place now. God bless him.
