    What an amazing adventure and destination!
    Some great fish! Shame the weather wasn’t as nice as your last day the whole trip.

      Hi Ron, it was definitely a pattern for us, we caught over a dozen lakers in shallow cabbage. With the cool water temps they were in there feeding. For GPS I'm a huge fan of any of the small Garmin GPSMap units with the correct map chip for the area installed. They're bulletproof!

    Do you have a video explaining your pike fishing set up? If not what rods and line do you use?

      Hi Chris! Sorry, no video yet, but it's a great idea. My dedicated pike spinning rods are 7' med/hvy St. Croix Avid inshore saltwater rods paired with Stradic CI4 4000 reels spooled with 30lb braid. Absolute killer rods!! For baitcasters I have a few different 7'4" heavy action St. Croix rods. Avid X and Legend Tournament are the two I use most. Both have identical actions. Any decent low profile reel spooled with 40 or 60lb braid will suffice, although I'm partial to the newer model Shimano Curado's

    guess they don't make fish nets in 'toba?

    • @CanadaFishingGuide
      @CanadaFishingGuide Před 4 lety

      If you watch more of my videos I quite often don't use a net or cradle unless absolutely necessary. I'm very comfortable grabbing them by hand and strongly feel it stresses the fish out less as they'll often thrash around in the mesh and get the hooks caught. That said, that's ONLY the fish we're photographing. The general public doesnt see the hundreds we twist off boatside with the pliers.

    How bad are the bugs?

    • @CanadaFishingGuide
      @CanadaFishingGuide Před 5 lety

      Not bad at all, we didn't use repellent at all during our trip other than when we walked to the portage lake adjacent to Bain.

      @Nono k - I appreciate your sarcasm and humor- I really do!
      However, having been to many different locations in the bush I have come to realize that some areas are much worse than others when it comes to black flies and skeeters. Case in point is far NW Ontario vs Chapleua area - night and day difference when not frozen. Bears dont bother me too much - just have to be aware and more careful in certain areas

    Atrocious fish handling.... should be ashamed. If your going to practice catch and release then please take the time to properly nurse and revive these fish. Just because its a world class fishery with strong populations is not a valid excuse. Neither is saying that the fish "swim off strong" Need to set a better example.
