THANK YOU ALEX, you are talking about an Henry, De Bruyne, Salah type player that can bang a 30 yarder from nowhere or dribble past 3 players and score to break open a tight game. Seeing Madrid V City confirmed this for me, seeing the goals they scored cemented this in my mind. Gabriel Jesus at times looks like that player, until it comes to finishing. We are extremely functional as a team but lack that element, Saka and Odegaard are very close but not quite there. Maybe what we are referring to is, world class?

Not to try and ruin this all by making it childish and very tiktok like, but when people often use the word 'him' it has me thinking. The way I define the word 'him' in football terms is when you can pull out a piece of individual brilliance out of nothing - exactly what is being talked about in this video. I don't identify a single Arsenal player in this team who can do that when the team are struggling and need something. I was praying for this today against Villa saying, we need something special to put us in front, and it didn't happen. That is why I do not count the likes of Saka and Odegaard as world class yet. They aren't difference makers and aren't able to carry you through rough patches and help you grind out results when needed most. That's why with this Arsenal team, when we're drawing 0-0 to Villa in the 80th minute, can we be saved by a moment of magic?

Players are tired because Mikel keeps playing around 14 of them all season. City win everything by giving significant minutes to most of their players and do not waste time hoping deadwoods will somehow come good e.g. Kalvin Philip is out and Sergio Gomez will follow soon. Why are we keeping Eddie, Nelson, Cedric, Viera etc when they won't play? Mikel has done this non-rotation thing 3 seasons in a row costing us in the final stretch of the season. I've seen enough. We won't win anything with him in charge.

He would play even more of them if they weren't injured so often. Vieira has had injuries, Timber had been out all season. Otherwise we would be around 18 outfield players, about the same as Pep. Mikel should have replaced Nelson with a better player during the summer since he wouldn't trust him to play. Nelson has not had an injury this season but has less than 500 minutes played in total. Granted, Partey's injury has made Rice more than he should and he looks fatigued but the former's injury issues has been there for years now, not unknown. ESR and Eddie are not going to improve here and why is Cedric is still on our books. This is bang on!! I think this is why we struggle in knockout football also. Where games are often decided in moments of brilliance. We have no issue scoring goals when we play well but we don't have a player who can score a goal out of nothing when we don't. This is why we struggle with the runs ins at the end of the season (chasing top 4 in 21/22, title run in 22/23 and this season although not over yet) where every game is high pressure and often cagey and decided in 'moments'.
This is why I think we need a clinical striker in the summer to be that guy to provide these 'moments' when needed! I'd personally go for Isak but that may be an extremely hard deal to do. We also need a pacey winger and a passing left 8 who get link up with the winger. The left winger is always isolated when compared to our right hand side. We didn't have this issue last season with Xhaka (passing profile) at left 8. Plus another left sided defender like a Hato/Inácio so we don't have to watch Zinchenko at left back anymore.
We are an amazing team but just lacking that one thing, until we get that I cant see us finishing ahead of this Pep city team. You have to be basically perfect to do so!!

That hesitation is one of the major reasons we lost to Bayern. That slight hesitation is all they needed to get 3, 4 men in the defensive positions they need to block the shot. Any dedicated team who are committed to defence will shut us out, unless some genius one-touch link-up play, (often involving our captain) fulfils the quota of passes they want before taking a shot.

Zinchenko was in the right side of the box instead of the left side picking up Bailey. I get what your saying Alex. While we have a superb team, we are more of an amazing unit and kind of lack a type of player who can consistently take the game by the scruff of the neck and produce a moment of brilliance when the amazing unit isn’t quite being so amazing. This isn’t the end all be all but can occasionally be the difference between getting 3 points or dropping points. For example we could be drawing with a team 0-0 in the 80th minute and a player of that profile could just go and get a goal out of nothing and put us in the lead. But since we don’t really have that, when the amazing unit isn’t quite being so amazing we run the risk of losing said game 2-0. (This example has nothing to do with any real life results 🙂)

I think we can see a lot of similarities in the philosophies that Arteta emphasises on with Peps own. For many years Pep had issues with integrating those front man game winner type players like Etoo, Zlatan, Aguero, etc and only untill recently have we seen him change in example of his signing of Haaland which helped him win the treble. And now we can see how much more he trusts in the quality of his team to win games by the creative freedom that allows players like grealish, de bruyne and even the boom of foden this season.
    .
Personally we are doing very well and id say our main issues right now is still finding a proper left back to suit the team as zinchenko is a liability in defence which teams are evidently targetting and Kiwior still shows signs of nervousness in those big games like against bayern.

While this is a valid analysis - this highlights the stereotypical criticism made towards our playstyle - "thing is they always try to pass it in".
The thing is that we have tried individual talent in the past (think prime Alexis Sanchez) - but we didn't have balance and flexibility between individual vs team effort. Same issue now- over reliant on team goals.
Either we become more flexible in our playstyle, or we have to develop multiple forwards who are capable AND WILLING to take the shots

And in a way that’s why I think Real Madrid are so strong because they are allowed to be creative and don’t play such a strict system which is why they often have these moments where the players score these moments goals like they did against city in 2021 sure it backfires at times and it is obvious when they lose to system heavy City but Arsenal need to find the balance of system and freedom to be creative and take risks I know I’m not the only one that sees this

Thank you. I had the same observation too. Arteta's team is too structured.. Which isn't a bad thing. However, we just don't see enough of solo plays which wreak havoc on defense.. Just organized on and off ball movement that created chances. Even during Wenger era post-Henry.. We had tons of individual players going ham on defense with the likes of Nasri, Arshavin, Sanchez. Even Fabregas (vs spurs) dribbled entire defense and Walcott (vs Newcastle) had their moments. The lack of killer instinct to just "kill" off the opponent is clearly seen during 1st half of last night match vs Villa. We are just lacking on that department to be truly be seen as the same level as Man City and Real Madrid - given how impressive we have been over the last couple of seasons.

    1) Starting Trossard and Jesus, while rewarding their recent performance, simply disrupted the team's rhythm established with Martinelli and Jorginho.
    2) Villa effectively shut down Arsenal's central play and Arteta's tactics seemingly lacked adjustments to exploit the flanks more effectively through.
    3) Arteta's delay in reacting to Villa's tactics in the second half was even more critical. Waiting too long to make substitutions or adjust the game plan allowed Villa to maintain control and exploit any vulnerabilities that arose.
    4) The substitutions themselves also deserve scrutiny, they did no have been what was needed to change the game. And identifying the right players to inject fresh energy and tactical adjustments could have been crucial.
    5) Let alone the wastefulness of the forwards in the final third.

    What you said is 💯!
We need a game changer someone who can change the state of the game single-handedly. Score a brilliant goal and do a brilliant play.
Similar to Villa there are games when we are so good but we can’t make the cut to put the ball in back of the net. Same as West Ham game where we lost ! We need killers like how Madrid create 1/2 moments in the game where they easily win the match.
Probably Rice has been the only one who changed matches for us like that more times(Luton, Man Utd, and few others) we need some individual brilliance over this team machinery.
Another problem that I find is we rarely take good quality shots outside the box. We don’t find that Saka goal against Chelsea or other screamers. We are just depending on the system to create effective shots which can be converted to goals. And I don’t find it a good thing.
