  • How to Fix Loose Passenger Side Mirror on 2012 Volkswagen Passat SE. Pretty much just buy some glue that can bond with glass, I purchased Loctite brand all purpose. Apply it to the mirror, and stick it back on. Make sure to check the alignment as it will slide down the mounting surface. I centered the mirror with the use of a folded piece of paper and plan to take the paper out after the glue cures (24 hours). Comment any questions you may have!

I swear CZcams is more helpful than some dealerships/garages. I'm having this issue on the same side on my 2008 Jetta, mirror Is extremely loose 🤕.. somehow I have to get to the hardware store with the mirror intact and apply some glue before I can't and have to replace it completely lmao, wish me luck. l attempt the trip tonight

To more easily line up the glass and the backing, you can just snap out the backing. It just plugs into a few slots and has a couple of plug-in cables. Then after gluing the glass and letting it dry, just plug it back in.

Thanks George, I just installed a new driver’s side mirror yesterday on my 2008 Passat. It was so easy just like you said!

You could have also used masking or painter tape to hold it up.. but yeah, just went through the wash and dried while drying the windows and came to the passenger side mirror, I found it was loose, so I need to find a video of how to take it off first.. lol.. This one, I think, clips on, but I can't find that video that I watched months ago and stumbled on it...

Is your wing mirror heated? As in demister function?
If so, does it work fine as normal post this fix?
Just thinking if I can do the same on my Mazda CX9 that has the demister function and application of a glue between the glass/mirror and the back plate might impact that function..

would not the reverse be true? As in: the heating will fuck up the glue?

George, what about if your mirrors are heated?

      Hi Ronald,
Owning the SE trim Passat, the mirror shown in this video is in fact heated. It’s been 9 months since this solution has been posted and the mirror heats up just fine and remains in tact beautifully.
      Thanks for reaching!

I glued the mirror but I leave straight away,,the next day I saw the mirror slide,,what can I use to remove the adhesive glue😬 thanks

Mila, I recommend putting a shim between the mirror and the housing to center the mirror and avoid shifting.
To be honest, I have not tried this so I cannot recommend it, but I have heard nail polish remover can remove adhesive glue. I would be hesitant and cautious with this however because it is an aggressive substance and can harm other components in the process.

Another option you have to remove the mirror and it’s backing from the housing, then you can remove the mirror glass from the backing with a plastic scraper. Here are instructions on how to remove the mirror glass and backing assembly: czcams.com/video/PFoB7_JAh0k/video.html

John, I actually just traded-in the car last month. However, up until the day I traded the car in, the mirror remained firmly attached :)

Great vid! Silly question, my bulb is out on the right side. Is it an easy fix or is it better to take it to a mechanic? I'm not very handy when it comes to cars haha.

It's too late now, but I think it's an easy fix. I changed my side view mirror lights to sequential lights and it was straightforward for me.

It's 12 dollars for a new and would take just as long to replace instead of glue
