Don't have diabetes BUT had been in the 245-265lbs FOREVER since I never took good care of myself. I got sick of being fat, unhealthy, and out of shape. My husband and I now hit the gym daily, (we worked out at home when lockdowns got really strict) we eat so much more healthier, our calories our logged in an app daily, and I'm SO CLOSE to being under 200 in over 10 years.

The most positive thing for me this year is that my 6 year old son is alive and finally in remission due to a chronic kidney disease. Back in Feb 18 2020 our house burned down and a couple of days later we ended up in the hospital for his kidney disease. March 16 2020 he coded due to a blood clot to the lung. He’s well now. We did have a couple of set backs this year back and forth in the hospital but I am thankful for these past 2 weeks of being in remission.

As a single mom I have always been actively involved in all of their activities, however at times it was on autopilot. The pandemic has given me an opportunity to really be "present" during the few activities and remote schooling they are able to participate in. As well as become creative and create family bonding activities throughout the week to help them get through this challenging time.

Being a teacher/dean, I’m a little hard on them and sometimes I think that I am too much “educator/disciplinarian” and not enough “just Mom”. Being forced to work from home and making the decision for them to learn 100% remotely has given us a chance to slow down and pay attention to one another. I have learned that while I am in no way thankful for this pandemic, I am thankful IN this pandemic! Even though I have experienced losses, there always room to be thankful in the moment! 🙏🏾

I was determined to make the best out of this year and was fortunate to have a few great things come out of it. I had a rough time with blood cancer a few years back and it damaged my thyroid but this year I was able to lose 30 pounds by signing up for virtual runs which I also wanted to do so I could give to charity and ended up doing 42 of them so far this year. I also graduated college (which was a major life goal since I didn't even know if I was going to live to graduate), started a blog about how I overcame trauma without a support system and was asked to be on a couple of podcasts to talk about adverse childhood experiences or the ACE study. I think it's important to give kindness and love to others. I love your channel and your style. I would not have usually had all that time (and counting) with him because my pre-covid routine consisted of me working full time outside of the home, but since I've been able to work from home, I've gotten to see him grow everyday/all day which is such a blessing (and I've grown closer to my other two sons as well :) I've even reached out to family members more regularly over the phone or facetime as a result of being home, even more than I would have had I been on the go like before, so I'm thankful for each day I get to spend with my loved ones. Thanks for asking!!

I love the Obama books in the back ❤️
I had a lot of good things happen, I finished my first full year of college after thinking I wasn’t smart enough, I started a full time job at a law firm and I got engaged ❤️
Despite everything that happened, I had a good year. The year before my parents died and a lot of bad stuff happened so I’m better now 💕

    Ever since .
