    I bought this bass after watching this video. Immediately put on flat wound strings and playing a gig with it! What a great buy!!! My back rejoiced because of the light weight and it has a wonderful rich sound. If you are into slapping your bass around this isn’t the bass for you. I use it for classic rock & country and it’s very easy to play, stays in tune at all frets, pickups are rich sounding (with flat wounds), and it’s so light that it’s super easy to play for 3 hour stretches.

      Hearing this makes me so incredibly happy! I am glad that the bass is working out for you. Nice to know that it is a good, workable unit even for a stage musician! This thing continues to impress, and you make a great point about the light weight of it being a real perk for someone playing long sets. About the only semi-negative I have about it is I would like to have a bit more "rollover" on the fretboard, but really, for the price these go for, they are a steal (plus, you will stand out on stage)!
      Thanks for the great comment!

    Congrats! Definitely can tell you're in love with this bass! ••• Solid review, great riffs. I have to agree with 1 Ear Guitar in that "Money" was my favorite -- it sounded the most like the original to me. ••• Makes me think about what to do when I run across a little extra cash. But wait, the price went up?! And now after this glowing review, it'll go up more! Gee, thanks, buddy! 😉 ••• Play on, brother, play on! 👊

      Agreed! I can't say for certain without trying it out, but I highly doubt the Ignition is twice as good as this bass considering that it costs over twice as much!

      It was a shockingly great pickup, especially when I nabbed it at $150! It hangs on my wall now as well, so it even doubles as decoration!

    Genome - Good honest review!.... Are you still enjoying your Rogue bass ? I'm a 72+ years "young" Bass Guitar (& Lap Steel)... Novice as well. I bought a "used" (but in "mint" condition) Douglas violin body bass about 4 months ago... with the three control knobs, like the Epiphone version.... and put the LaBella .039 - .096 strings on it, like yours. Yes, absolutely mad a world of difference in tone and Smoooooth playability. I'm waiting on new EMG humbuckers to arrive here early next week (Aug.1st, 2023) and I have a fair supply of US made "pots" & "Caps" of numerous types and frequency value's, so am going to do some upgrading modifications to it, and make it "my own.
    I absolutely Love playing the violin body bass, compared to my other three solid body basses (Yamaha, Ibanez lomg scales & a Gretsch short scale), and for a surprisingly "real" Upright Bass (dbl bass) sound I also have two Ukelele bass guitars - a KALA black ebony (wood type) acoustical guitar body, and a "violin bodied" Ukelele bass in "Sunburst" and is identical in its "Tobacco Burst" (light brown center with faded in black on the edges and creme piping), to my Douglas "Beatle" Bass, but slightly less than half its size. It goes under the name of "Hadean"... from Rondo Music (dot com) in New Hampshire.
    If you're looking for a real Upright bass sound, without the size and weight... these U-basses/Ukelele Basses, especially with the Black strings by "Road Toad Music" called Pahoehoe Bass Strings (Lpw Tension) - I got mine on-line through JustStrings (dot com) in New Hampshire - the Largest string dealer in the world... and best prices.... just FYI.
    Today, I just ordered a new Epiphone Viola bass from zZoundsMusic dot com, and a "mint condition" used Rogue bass, like yours... yesterday, and ordered new LaBella Flat wounds today, for both basses.... but instead of the .039 - .096 gauge strings, like you have on your Rogue & my Douglas, I ordered the .050 - .100 gauge sets for an even deeper tone. I love experimenting with different "pot" and capacitor combinations to juggle tone control... almost as much as playing. lol

      Thanks for the great comment! Yes, I am still enjoying my Rogue bass, though admittedly, I have been playing more acoustic guitar than bass lately. Those ukulele basses sound interesting! You're right; tinkering with the "perfect" combination of doo-dads on guitars is as much fun as actually playing them!

    Seems like your review was so highly praising this Rogue VB100, Rogue raised the price from 149 to 229, an $80 (50%) increase!

    • @GenomePresents
      @GenomePresents  Před rokem +2

      I know! I was so bummed when I saw that. Can't have been because of me though; my channel is too small (but boy did it ever seem like a strange "coincidence)! On another review that I did a few days back of the Rogue RA-090, that price would fluctuate every few days ($60 one day, $100 a few days later), so if you are interested in the VB100, you might want to check back periodically.
      Another thing that sometimes happens with eBay (thought about doing a vid on it), is if you look at a product a few times, sometimes the seller will reach out to you with an offer.

    You sold me on this bass. I have had it for a few months now and I love it. No need to buy a Hofner. I like the way it is so easy to play. I am now wondering if the six string model of this is as easy to play. I will have to go with Hofner to get the six string. But I think I am gonna do it. Thanks.

      Very glad to hear that you are enjoying this bass! I was just playing it yesterday actually. It's perfect for just plopping down in a chair and practicing without even plugging it in to an amp or anything. I have never worked with the 6-string version, so I can't comment on that. If you do wind up getting it, drop a comment back here and let me know what you think!

      @GenomePresents  Před rokem +2

      Thanks so much! I am so happy that the bass was not just something that I bought to display like an ornament!
      There is a strap that is made for these (think it's called a dog collar or something like that). I will likely wind up getting one. I imagine an acoustic-style strap setup may help combat it as well.

    I just decided to grab one, glad it's going to be a fun little unit! Even more of a beginner than you. I was looking at a similar Epiphone, but they're pert near $500. These are $179 at Musicians Friend right now, for that kind of money it's worth taking a flyer on. I just wanted a quirky bass.

      @Genome Presents a noob question. I just got it in, looks phenomenal....is the neck pickup on yours a tad bit wiggly? I see where you can adjust the height, just curious if it being able to wiggle slightly up and down is normal.

    • @GenomePresents
      @GenomePresents  Před rokem +1

      @@sambo179 mine is a tad wiggly as well (or the cover is). Not a huge amount, but it does move the tiniest bit once you put some force on it. I have never heard it rattling or buzzing whilst playing though.

    I also have the Rogue VB with LaBella flat wounds and it plays great. I recently played a Hofner Ignition which sounded good, but I think the neck felt terrible. I was surprised how good the VB actually is.

    • @GenomePresents
      @GenomePresents  Před rokem +2

      Great to hear from someone who has played both! Upon getting my VB setup, I was pretty curious as to how it would stack up against the Ignition (and was a bit skeptical that it would be a much better unit). I believe that the VB is punching WAY above it's weight and is an excellent value for someone looking for a violin-style bass without shelling out serious coin. Fit-n-finish, aesthetic, and overall playability have been WAY better than I expected going in.
      Thanks for the great comment!

      I was very pleasantly surprised at how well this bass both performed, as well as looked in the fit-n-finish department. Great hearing from someone who has played both. Upon getting mine set up, I am pretty skeptical that the Ignition would be much of an, if any, improvement.
