Tepary Beans: Breeding for Climate Resilience at USDA TARS

Tolerance to heat, drought, pests, and diseases makes tepary bean (Phaseolus acutifolius) essential for conservation, research, and breeding at the USDA ARS Tropical Agriculture Research Station in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Dr. Tim Porch describes how tepary bean is being improved and used to breed more resilient common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris).
