    Fuji's idea of having the noise look like grain instead of little square artifacts in crossword puzzle patterns was brilliant. I never think of noise when using a Fuji. I always consider that in the film days, pushing 1600 ASA film a couple of stops was the only way to go anyway.

    You are absolutely right by saying "embrace the noise" because nowadays most digital cameras have such a nice way of handling noise as if it was grain. Just remember when there was high ISO film, the grain was dramatic and not always as nice... I shoot often up 6400 on my X-E4 and don't even bother...

    Many of your thoughts about shooting at night, seeking scenes out cinematically and pensively, the vulnerabilities and cautions, making grainy photos B&W worst case scenario, etc. all mirror my own feelings exactly. Really well-constructed and creative video, as always. I missed this one earlier this year, but just picked up an X100V - current X-T2/4, X-H1, X-Pro3 AND X-E4 owner. But my X-Pro3 was just dealt a debilitating & highly frustrating blow in the way of the back screen stopped working, and now the flip lcd touch no longer works either - this after my first two X-Pro3s needed to be returned because of the optical viewfinder issues this model experienced early on in it's release. So I decided it was time to finally give the X100V a try. I always hated that my X-Pro3 didn't have an HDMI port anyway, among other buttons on it that can't be pushed in, etc. the X-Pro3 was in many ways always lacking somehow, for me. And it's problems almost made me leave Fujifilm entirely. Almost... lol. Anyway, great scenes and thoughts in this video.

    Good video...
    Safety at night: One thing I noticed in the video that I’d say you shouldn't do when out photographing at night is; not use headphones or earbuds as it stops you being audibly aware of what is around you.
    Not only for traffic ( a bin lorry or delivery truck reversing for example) but to be also be aware of possible trouble heading your way… nights means people out drinking and being drunk etc.
    Be aware, stay safe, enjoy.

    That 4x3 aspect ratio hit me by surprise. Like always, your videos are a work of art themselves. A tip I picked (don't remember where exactly) is when shooting at night, a film simulation or custom setting with a bit of a green tint in them can help with high ISO. Won't show less grain but it usually looks better.

    I am inspired here. I love shooting night photography, and I recently started shooting with film more at night. I would recommend CineStill T800 film if you have a little more experience with film. It is tungsten-balanced, and it works really well for low-light photography. If you are interested in B&W photography, Ilford and Kodak produce 3200 iso film (Ilford available in 120 and 35mm). When shooting at night, it's not a bad idea to venture out as a group.

    Very nice work, Faizal. You have brought a whole new meaning to Street Photography. I agree how frustrating shooting at night can be. I know how obvious it can be to "follow the light". The problem with shooting into the light is that it messes up the dynamic range big time.
    The color grading does follow typical realistic human eyes well. By the way, what Picture Profile did you use? I am trying to figure out the best one for low light.

    As usual, well done Faizal. I have only recently found you videos and I think they are very well produced and always contain a lot of useful Info. Unlike you, I shoot at night almost exclusively. Well, actually very early morning as I am a morning person. Two tips i would add: Shoot in manual mode and usually a stop underexposed. This adds a truer black to the image since the camera is not trying to push everything to a day time light. I also try as much as possible to lean against a wall or a telephone pole to keep myself steady. (I'm an old man) Or I rest the camera on a fence or something. Thanks

    @mapakern3979 Před 2 lety

    That's a really great video and the set of images is great too! I would like to add my own take on night time photography though: I think many people still might get scared seeing you getting out with the Fuji X100V since it isn't that much of a beginners camera. And even though I see what you mean when you say it doesn't have a great low-light performance the Fuji X-system generally handles extremely well high ISO-numbers. F2 is pretty great as aperture too. Beginners don't have that kind of gear.
    But I can tell that even with a beginner's SLR like a used Nikon 3000 (which is pretty bad with high ISOs) and a kit lens (which doesn't open more than f3.5 (!!!), you can get great results, especially if you're using the streetlights as spots. You just have to practice standing straight and not shaking. In such a case I would recommend opening as wide as possible, shutter speed around 1/15 to 1/30, ISO max at 1000, better around 400 (after that the images are real trash). Or just use your phone with the lightroom app for example. You'll get pretty decent results too if your phone is more or less recent.
