Coast, cows, and cream tea in Coverack, Cornwall. Coverack to Black Head walk.

  • Our walk starts with an explore of Coverack, its geology and harbour before heading towards an old iron age fort and taking in a cliff top sculpture garden by Terence Coventry along the South West Coast Path towards Cadgwith.
With stunning coastal views and scenery, this walk starts in the stunning coastal village of Coverack. The community spirit is very evident as you wander through the village towards the working harbour. The little fishing boats in their bright colours are picture perfect! The walk then leads you to an iron age fort - a perfect spot for lunch before challenging your creative side and getting in touch with the many sculptures by Terence Coventry. The costal path heads towards Black Head and it is here that you get the first glimpse of the coast towards Cadgwith and beyond.
The walk turns inland to cross fields - one full of very inquisitive cows! and forcing us to make a short diversion, before we found ourselves back in the delightful Coverack and treated ourselves to a delicious cream tea at the Bay Hotel.
Many thanks to Peter Wood who allowed us to use his photos of the flood from 2017. For more photos of Coverack, www.webarchive.org.uk/wayback...

Well my Dears, where do I start....absolutely beautiful scenery as usual, and, the most perfect weather. Coverack always look as though times has stood still and if you looked at it in black and white I am sure, with, a few long dresses it could be Victorian. I loved the sculptures and your very photogenic doggie with the perfect poise. The cows were determined not to be left out and the cream tea was just something else!!! Jam first of course. You were very mean with your scores ha ha!! it was a 10 from me from the comfort of my arm chair. Well done, most enjoyable.

Very very fortunate to have an established myriad of footpaths and public coastlines and a wealthy national trust. Long may it last.
Here in Australia a lot of the coastlines are private as in the USA.

I think we are very lucky! Our particular section of coast access in Cornwall is owed in part to the fight against smuggling. Excise men used the path to patrol, looking for smugglers' boats. Sarah :)

Just found your videos..Can't wait to catch up and get to know your channel... It was very enjoyable.. Thank you.
I am a geologist and grew up in Devon and Cornwall, and my family are still there so always visiting. We love the lizard for the serpentine..it is called serpentine because when you get a fresh (non weathered) surface it looks like snakes skin. Lots of university geology student field trips go to see the serpentine! .. Cornwall and Devon has some great geology!
Cornwall has a sub-tropical climate in summer and mild winters due to the Gulfstream... Hense the flora and fauna special to Cornwall (in relation to the rest of the UK).
    Beautiful sculptures
A suggestion: Maybe give 2 ratings for the walks. 1 for how easy it was to follow the guidelines for the walk and one for the actual walk itself... Because the guy seemed to base his grade on how much he "enjoyed" the walk, while the woman seemed to grade it on "how easy (or not) it was to follow the guidelines"... That makes the grading obsolete for us viewers to use as a guide. Also writing these evaluations in the comments would be very useful. (sorry for "the guy" and "the women" references, but your names don't appear in the video description and I'm not watching it again to see if they come into the conversation, and this was the first video I have seen from you guys)... Thanks again for the interesting content!

Hi Sahra, we were in Cornwall for the first time in 1991 - we had a cottage in Traboe. a few years later we were there again. We visited the whole area around Cornwall from there and are still enthusiastic today. You have my "old" video of the Lizard - including the coverack - here in the link: czcams.com/video/K_6gGlqGJ4Q/video.html from 5:15 you can find recordings from Coverack 1991 !! Later we went to the UK a lot. We have traveled to Scotland, Wales and England many times and I can say: the best holiday destination in Europe - for us! By the way: we adore the royal family. There is an exchange of letters with HM The Queen, Prince Charles and Prilce William. See my cannell if you are interested. Best regards from Germany, Konrad / Düsseldorf

Well......I HOPE that's where we will be, although listening to the news tonight it may well be that I will be stuck in Kent for the foreseeable again with the way things are going with the pandemic........sigh. Keeping it all crossed that Boz doesn't lock us all down again...I have been to Coverack before, but didn't know about the Sculpture park....I remember sitting on the village bench overlooking the ocean with an ice cream and & a local cat sat on my lap who decided to befriend me! Omg those cows looked very threatening but love the shot with them all lined up in a row. Very intimidating. I'm not surprised you diverted away from them. They scare me because its the way they gang up!! Calving cows are more dangerous than bulls yet you never see BEWARE 🙂 Nice view from where you had the cream tea. Elizabeth does indeed sell an extremely good pastie, also the fish and chips from the boathouse are amongst the best in Britain. The beach geology is almost unique and is known as 'walking the Moho' short for the Mohorovičić discontinuity. The Paris is nice but rather full of chubby self important London business men all talking about their Cornish property bargains. Apart from that it's a lovely place to live if a bit isolated, good community spirit.
