- Well guys it’s Friday already, after a strange week blasting, cleaning and painting without much money coming in and all going out we finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Also, you won’t believe what this customer says
When tapping on the mill I used a centre in the quill and using a combination of feeding the quill down and rotating the tap wrench achieved a square tapped hole. Making sure centre of quill lined up with hole first.
Yes that works well or I just got a 'tapping centre' device (I think from Chronos or RDG, forget which). It's a spring loaded centre point that mounts in the chuck to locate the tap, holds it square like you say but saves having to feed the quill down while tapping - Simple, cheap and works fine.
99.9% sure he was just running a cleaning tap down already tapped holes from production.
I think you need to add the flashing light warning with your fancy LED lights changing colors. 🤣

"without much money coming" Solution: Ask for a 25% or 35% deposit on all work. Then do the work in the order that the deposits are received. The balance is then due before the job is shipped out, or collected.

Funny about the messaging/telephoning situation. When emails first became a thing, my boss used to call me literally 30sec after emailing me, would ring me to ask if I had seen his incoming email and wanted me to read it whilst he was on the line! You couldn't write it😅.

If you chaps, and chapesses, are going to ring him, sit down beforehand and make a brief summary of the actual engine, and what you want to discuss being done for you.
It saves a heck of a lot of time and hassle on both ends.
However, e-mail does have a BIG advantage in that it's a record of what was said by both parties, therefore avoiding all the potential "he said - no, he said" confusions and disagreements.

Sometimes people message before they ring you because you might be in the middle of doing something especially for trades like yours. Sometimes people will answer ok but you might doing something so you might say “call me in 15 minutes” so you can finish what you are doing. The other thing you could consider is to put on your website and tell people on CZcams you answer the phone between 08:30 and 09:30 Mon-Fri. Then do your office work then and answer phones so it doesn’t interrupt your machining workflow.
