  • My 104 metre constant weight dive at the Blue Element Freediving Competition. The dive itself felt great and easy and we were diving in such stunning conditions. The dive site itself is a volcanic crater and we had very deep water very close to the shore.

    Really inspiring to see your expertise, your power and speed on the ascent, and your always-on sense of fun and humour - on a day that was a disappointing one for me. Despite being more than capable of deeper dives, my equalisation proved to be my Achilles heel, and I wasn't able to descend below 8 or 9 metres and so could not complete Wave 1. But I've seen your excellent advice on equalisation, and will be back after working it out. Thanks for the great work you do for freediving worldwide Adam Stern!

    It is extremely pleasant to see how communicative to your subscribers you are! I just tried out the dive mask again that I said I couldn't equalize easily with, and I was able to do it just fine after some breaking in. I'm heading to the springs soon with my new gear. Your breathing exercises with the 4 minute markers have increased my time from a little under 1 minute to 1 and 55 seconds. I wish I could take a free-diving class of yours, but I am currently trying to save up for college. Thanks for your tips and motivation to go out there and have fun. I'll let you know the depth I was able to go down too when I get back! Keep up the awesome videos, man!

    Loved the majestic shots of the diver going down into the deep blue abyss, risking all and also really loved the constant cut in shots of ordinary people above water waiting, doing nothing. Meanwhile, daring diver is needing every ounce of precious oxygen, then cutting back to people hanging out, doing nothing, but using precious oxygen.

      right, thinking about it twice i actually know why:D this whole thing would be unbelievably dangerous without being able to rely on other people to keep you save. theres a lot of trust involved aswell (i bet -no experience). it's also easily underestimated just by seeing someone dive this way how tough it actually is. i can barely imagine this much water about my head. so the moment the others join the diver and 3 fish people dive to the surface im just really proud of everybody und so happy for them.
      tldr: congratulations on being so awesome and thanks a lot for filming it!

I normally can't sleep at night but watching the 'unseen' beauty of the ocean and the movements of the divers sort of have a calming effect on me. I couldn't perform this until I get over my fear of me diving in and something comes from beneath me and pulls me down until I cant breath So Until then I'll just continue watching...

    I always find your technique at the beginning from when you finish your breath up through your duck dive so interesting. You rush through it a lot quicker then other divers. There's quiet a few moments in your dive where you don't do the generic slow minimal movements but almost seem to be rapidly pushing through points. I find it fascinating but maybe I'm talking from a points of ignorance.

    Hi, Adam! Like your videos very much!
    Of course I've never dived so deep. I live near the Black Sea (city called Odessa). Our sea is quite cold and not so deep as some of our local freedivers would like it to be. Sometimes we rent a boat and go to the sea to look for 20-30 m deep. And there we do our constant weights)))
    As for me I've never practised with the monofin. But it seems to this video you moved too fast with your monofin. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
    Wish you more wins and nice videos!

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  Před 6 lety

      Sounds like you live in a beautiful place :) When it comes to ascent speeds it really is a matter of preference and whatever your body has been trained to do. The trend at the moment is to sprint up from deep dives and more and more divers are doing it whereas in the past divers used to come up slowly and more relaxed.

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  Před 7 lety +10

      dany saoub sounds like you have one sticky or tight ear. The ringing you're hearing is because of the trauma you're causing by not equalising your ears fully. Try to descend nice and slow, don't continue descending unless both your ears are equalised fully and over time you will increase the flexibility of your Eustachian tubes :)

    Hey does anyone know why when people freedive after a certain depth they seem like they don't even have to swim anymore. That they just keep falling. Anytime I've snorkled in Hawaii and maybe only have went down thirty or so meters my lungs were full of air and even had to let some of the breath out to go that deep. Kept seeming like I had to fight to go deeper.

      @AdamFreediver  Před 6 lety

      Hey cody, eventually when you get deep enough the air in your lungs compresses to the point where you no long float but rather sink :)

      because after 20-30m I become negatively buoyant in the water at my lungs compress

  • @misterari
    @misterari Před 7 lety +1

    You guys free divers don't stop (at, say, 5m) before you can resurface? You just ascend, no stop? Don't know much about this but I did couple of scuba diving in the past. That's incredible

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  Před 7 lety +1

      ari h. ado no, there isn't a need to stop when you're not breathing underwater :)

    • @misterari
      @misterari Před 7 lety

      Thanks Adam one more thing I am wondering how long it took you AKA how long you hold breath diving that depth. Again that's incredible man!

    • @AdamFreediver
      @AdamFreediver  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks buddy! My dive time for this dive was 3 minutes and 7 seconds :)

    • @OtisJCW
      @OtisJCW Před 7 lety +11

      Basically the difference is that when you scuba dive, you breath in pressurised air because you are at depth, and because your blood and this gas is under pressure at say 20m (triple the pressure of atmosphere on land), your blood dissolves more nitrogen (N2) gas. If you come up quickly this gas rapidly leaves your blood and forms micro nitrogen bubbles in you joints, since at a lower pressure your blood cannot have so much nitrogen dissolved in it, so you need to come up slowly and wait at 5m so the nitrogen comes out slowly, and doesn't give you decompression sickness.
      Because you only have a small about of pressurised air in your lungs (1/3 of a lung full rather than a full lungs worth with scuba) and because you are down there for much less time (3mins at), your blood nitrogen concentration in your blood doesn't get to a high enough level to cause issues with you ascending so quickly.
      Basically freediving involves less nitrogen and less time for that nitrogen to be dissolved = safe levels of nitrogen in your blood during a dive, whereas scuba is lots of nitrogen (12L of 200bar air) and prolonged time underwater = lots of nitrogen in your blood, and if that nitrogen leaves your blood quickly bad things happen.
      It's a bit complex but that's the basic gist.
