A mansion that belonged to a Royal Portuguese family, forgotten, lost in time... This week we traveled to the north of Portugal to film a place that was just mesmerizing! The mansion was first inhabited by a Portuguese family who was in the business of producing and selling fine wines. The wines they soled had a reach all over the world and the revenue they got from it was reflected in their home. We found furniture ranging back to the Victorian times, and bedroom so unique you are just not gonna believe your eyes! The farm got abandoned in 1980 and has been left behind by the family ever since... We are gonna take you on an incredible adventure and show you all the little details that are left behind in this place! Enjoy :)

When you were looking at the "stuffing" in the chair, I don't think it was straw, but horsehair. Back in the day, that's what they used, hair from a horse's tail. Beautiful antiques in the home! Now a days, young people here in the USA, don't like them much. I personally, love them, but I'm not young! LOL!
I would love to own these antiques. I've always said I was born in the wrong era. I love the Victorian era.
My mom told me once about their parlor that no one was allowed to go in unless they had company. Then it was usually only adults. When she got older and was given the privilege to go in she got to sit on the sofa. It was pretty but horsehair. She said very prickly and itchy and was pleased when she was dismissed from the gathering 😏.
Hey Mary many people pointed this out to me. Is it very common that there is horse hair in these matreses? Kind regards, Lesley
Yes, Lesley, very common for them to be stuffed with horse hair. (from the tail of the horse)
thanks for telling me the stuffing of the chair is horsehairs. It blows my mind! I am an Asian. By and by, I look familiar with western countries!
Hi Lesley and Jordy, Bros of Decay, Just shortly before I was on my way to sleep, your latest video popped up. - Of course I could
not resist watching, and I must say once more: amazing! - You always surprise me in a most agreeable and pleasant way. - At first it
is just a pure pleasure walking in mind together with you through these once back in the days very grand looking rooms with their
fading beauty nevertheless still visible. - Then by listening to your lovely voice narrating in a most interesting and inspiring way, what
you are seeing and experiencing, the items in these abandoned slowly decaying rooms seem to gain a new life. - Just wonderful!
Also Jordy was doing as always an excellent job with his camera. - I hope you are well and wishing you all the best. Peace, blessings and
kindest regards from Switzerland. - Take care and stay safe in these insecure times.
Hey Willy, My dear fan and friend by now! Thank you for this pleasant and amazing comment. Currently speaking I am on my last trip before europa goes on lockdown. Please be safe and we will meet later :)
@@BrosOfDecay , You are very welcome, and it's my pleasure! What a lovely feedback from the Bros of Decay. - You
really made my day, - and yes, I am every day very careful and trying to stay as safe as possible. Switzerland is practically locked
down by now.- Blessings and kind regards.
I find Lesley's voice very relaxing - he can put me to sleep!
I loved the double doors on the bedrooms and all the transom windows in this place. Like some of the other people commented, I was amazed at the condition of this place, considering the age. Great camera work, Jordy. I felt like I was walking in each room with you.
I just adored the double doors and I see many people on the channel as well :) Thank you Sahia!
That must have been a beautiful home at one time. Really enjoyed seeing all the hand carved furniture.
The bed you said reminded you of a boat is called a sleigh bed. Think: a sleight (sled) ride in the snow. The reason you see lots of them in Europe, as we do in America, is because their origins is French and American. Beautiful old home.
@kryzaly you are right, sleigh bed!
biedermeier epoch we call it in germany around 1850. actually its from germany who brought it it to the US as they immigrated and made up a high percentage of citizens in the US. This design is spread all over the house especially the sofas www.dorotheum.com/en/l/5518515/
O that is some useful information thank you very much :) x
12:12 Lesley it is an old coffee grinder from the 1920s or '30s that one I do know my grandma had one at the lake the exact one.
Hey Susan, Some people also told me that it was a pasta maker. Now I am not 100% sure who is right haha. Do you have more insight on this? Kind regards Lesley x
@@BrosOfDecay It could be used for both after watching your video I called Grandma lol she said there was one made that was used for grinding coffee beans and pasta and meat it was all in one so really it depends on what one they got. So yes I also learned something. there were gadgets that would switch it to what you needed it for. And since people always drank Coffee that was all Grandma used her's for.
That is really useful but not anymore in these days haha Thanks Susan for taking the effort :) Kisses Lesley
@@BrosOfDecay Was my pleasure my family is history people everything growing up was learning about history. It is nice to see the old things in your videos :) xoxoxo Susan
Was it a Melita coffee grinder?💫
Love your respect of the properties and the people that may have lived there. Thank you.
Your videos are never too long. This was one of my favorites! Thank you.....
Luv this. Always picture the people there living
I try to relive how they lived in this place 😊
Q1 1st this was a really beautiful home in its time, and is still not in nearly as bad shape as many others of similar age. I noticed some glasses in the cabinet that look to be made by a very skilled glass blower, they are very fine and thin, and probably as old as the building. The carving on the master bed is incredibly fine and intricate, such as shame such craftsmanship is left to quietly decay after being a part of so much history. Imagine the stories these walls and furnishings could tell. Thank you for showing this to us, stay safe out there, and keep on having fun.🖤🇨🇦
Hey Tamarra, This house just told me stories of their former owners... All the artwork and craftsmanship was just stunning. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed this episode!
Bros Of Decay you have been finding some truly amazing places in Portugal, I love it there.🖤🇨🇦
That front room use to be called a 'Parlor' or 'sitting room' used to receive guests. Back in the day if a boy and girl were to meet, that is where they would spend time.
Beautiful! You have a very pleasant voice!
Love your videos and seeing all this incredible history love the old furniture especially the beds
be safe as always .From Kentucky. USA.
Thank you very much for this amazing comment :) X lesley
Love this mansion, especially that huge masterpiece of a bed in your introduction. The headboard carefully crafted for a Royal. I have never seen a canopy bed so spectacularly designed. This bed was a special order, and they had the money to do it. They loved their home, furnishings and were quite proud of their family name.
23:33 I believe this design is called a Sleigh Bed. Soooooooo much beauty left behind and naturally decaying. Surprisingly haunting, after 40 years of abandonment, the furnishings all look strong and sturdy, just needs a little cleaning. Definitely a Time Capsule.💕💕
The reason I wanted to go to this place was because of this bed... Such a masterpiece! Yes multiple people told me that the bed was called a sleigh bed. Just amazing to know all this diferent thing :) Thanks Elizabeth X lesley
@@BrosOfDecay Your both quite welcome.💕
Love love watching all the antique furniture, in Europe the bathrooms used to be very large which is a good thing. but now I dont know..thank you guys....protect yourself from this outbreak..♥️
These bathrooms where incredible small for the size of the mansion :O It choked me! Thank you for watching Catalina X Lesley
In some older houses here in the US you’ll see huge bathrooms that are converted bedrooms or possibly a back porch area was closed in.
Yes, bedrooms and dinning rooms used to be larger, but kitchens and bathrooms smaller. - Nowadays, the emphasis is on big kitchens and "family" rooms.
I love this guy. I almost can't watch anyone but him. I am 67 yrs old. And I know a great guy when I see one. You must be a good son.
Love the old furnishings that are left in these abandonded homes. It helps foretell the past and how these families lived. Nice explore, Lesley and Jordy!
Thank you very much Shelia! The furnishings in this place tell a story of their own
Awesome video guys! Thanks for sharing these places.
Hello Lesley, I enjoy your videos immensely. You have a wonderful voice for narrating and your respect for these marvelous places makes for a very professional production. Through your narrating, one feels the soul of these special homes and the people that once dwelt in them. Your videos are by far the best in this genre. Peace to you and yours.
I love the darker woodwork of the cabinets &chests such a waste of history document it for future. Thanks for sharing keep filming
Do you think that they got darker with age or is it just some sort of coating? Kind regards, Lesley
@@BrosOfDecay hello, great video! I like to look so don't mind the length:) The wood darkens with age, but also the stain or varnish that was used was the style then, this also darkens. Stay safe and thank you!!
That was a fantastic old home with a lot left behind. Under the bed was a chamber pot and the curved bed you liked is called a sleigh bed because it was shaped like the old horse drawn sleigh's. Stay safe and have fun boys.
Hey Marybeth, The chamber pots always take me back to former times. If I find one of those in an abandoned building I know this place is ancient. THank you for watching! x
Beautiful furniture and home. Yes in America that furniture would be worth a small fortune. Loved that Master bedroom bed wow... Thank you for taking the time to show us all the history.
We love longer videos. When you go into detail about furniture and dishes that is great!
Bros of decay I take my hat off to you guys 🎩 I stumbled on ur CZcams channel maybe few months ago now and I LOVE , LOVE, LOVE seeing all these abandoned houses I too loved it since I was a child I am fascinated with the stories behind these once upon a time occupied house’s they are ordinary people just like u and me i’m move me to tears 😭 I can’t explain the feeling i get I feel so many different emotions when I’m watching ur channel theres an overwhelming sense of sadness I can’t put into words especially when I’m hearing some of the sad stories attached to these abandoned houses and when I see all there precious belongings just left there it’s so precious!! I see priceless photos , clothes , property , furniture, and the dinner table where they once sat together one day they just up and left leaving all there things behind ... cups , plates all these things left in the exact same spot not touched or moved 🤭 it’s eerie like a ghost town everything is still there after so many years its frozen in time it’s like going back into a time capsule u can’t help but imagine how it would have been like when they all lived there together 😭 I can imagine hearing them hearing the laughter , all the family occasions , all the activities the gatherings it truly makes me appreciate life all the more because life is like a puff of smoke 💨it’s like a vapour here today gone tomorrow u realise when u see this how the years go by so fast everything is already in the process of decay! house’s are like people they have a body (outer shell) and the inner is like the soul of a person who once lived but then dies , once that soul dies it vacates the body just like these houses there’s nothing but emptiness left behind leaving us to wonder about there live stories, truly people make the house a home!! I’m sad there all gone it gives us all a glimpse into our own future makes you want to be more appreciative! truly life is a gift 🎁 from God! I will love to give donations from time to time because it’s well worth what you guys are doing .I see your love and passion ur appreciation for these abandoned house’s is evident. God bless you u guys stay safe with love Victoria🥰♥️
Wow that was one huge house/mansion, Thank you for explaining the European laws in regards to the properties and contents, Answered my questions. So very very sad all that beautiful Genuine Antique furniture will just rot. Thank you guys. Be safe hugs from Australia xx
Hi Lesley an Georgie it’s beautiful amazing,I love the chairs an beds .so sad they stand empty,to decay ,thank you for sharing take care ,Ann uk
Fab place, fabulous bed- I’d love that. Also that fridge. Your camera work is so good as it doesn’t make me dizzy at all. Great explore 🌹
The tile on the kitchen walls looks like it's brand new!!! Amazing old home!
You are right wow did not even notice that
You always make the houses seem more real and livable. I’ve said before, I didn’t know the Portuguese were such elaborate furniture makers. Sleigh beds, triple chairs in hall, innovative ideas.

Superb! Loved all the beautiful beds. Don't think I've seen such a variety before. Thank you for a lovely episode.
A friend is looking for that very Pfaff 31 treadle sewing machine! Very rare in America! So excited to see that machine!!!
Hi Lesley & Jordy, another great adventure & wow 14 beds! Such lovely rooms & great to see them all! Lots of beautiful carved furniture, & nice pictures & dressers, plus chandeliers! Yes, I love the French double doors, so many antiques too! I am actually going backwards in your video`s...I started in 2021 & watch for new ones every Saturday in 2022, but then go backwards to see many more! Your video`s are the Best & you as a sweet caring person is so great to listen too! Jordy you are doing a great job & a sturdy hand not to shake while holding the camera-video! You’re absolutely the greatest! Thank You so much! Love what you do. I can’t see anything from these except for you. To quote a fav. Pastor of mine, “May God richly bless you, my beloved.”
Wow!! That bed is incredible and so is this place 😍 Thank you for another wonderful video!!
Beautiful woodwork, interior doors, furniture. That bed! Wonderful place with good vibes. Thank you! 🌸🐌💙
Excellent footage. Thank you so much. 🌹💟💟🌹
Hey guys I love your videos, I'm kinda new too your channel. This one was my favorite because showed us a lot more content and no it wasn't too long. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK YOU BROS. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoyed this video! I find the history of these places so interesting, thanks for the research that you do into these stories. You also do a nice job of pacing your explores.... I appreciate that you don’t rush through. Nice job 👍🏼
I think this was one of my absolute favorites. The homes infrastructure, furnishings and pictures were amazing, the coat of arms speaks to me from history and the grounds and garden were spectacular - I can envision it beautiful and bustling with 19th century subjects. Stunning.
Hi Lesly! just watched the video now and i can say that its one of the most amazing videos you made! i love your story while filming, giving us the imagination of how those people lives back on the days.. anyways thank you for touring us and God bless you BROs OF DECAY!
Watching this now. Always so beautifully done. Experts and perfect beyond your years. I love the maturity you exemplify when exploring and doing the videos. Thank you both, for sharing your view of the world with us!!! 😘😘❤️❤️👍👍💯💯💯
Amazing furniture. Keep up the good work. Thank you 💜
Our pleasure!
I appreciate you finding the history of the place, as much as you can. The story behind the family.
The furniture is stunning!!! Thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure Cheryl x Lesley
This is the most amazing place and of course you showcased it beautifully. Would love to have seen it in its earlier years. Another great explore. Thank you.❤️❤️❤️
It definetly was a very wonderfull place Yvonne ☺️❤️
Amazingvideo! They keep getting better and better every time. Love to watch you guys, love the accent (i'm dutch) love the background stories you always seem to find. Keep it up! Lots of love from Holland xx
I love, that despite the house being in disrepair or vandals strewing items about, you are both very respectful in what and how you touch items. You remember that people lived there, loved there, and created memories. Bravo to you both and thank-you 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your videos. I absolutely love all of tbem. I love the way you narrate them too. I also love your accent and very nice to look at , very handsome young men. Stay safe and God bless.
Wow that’s a beautiful place. Look at the furniture. Thanks for the exploration
A sad neglected mansion that could be preserved and restored to it's former glory. I guess the last descendents weren't as lucky or rich as the first generation. An Amazing grand house full of faded memories and dust. Great explore. Thank you for exploring these historic old homes left behind.
Hey Janet, It is always sad to see and experience buildings that are neglected and left behind :( Hope you enjoyed this episode x Lesley
I especially love your videos and the longer the better! I prefer to watch at night before I go to sleep. Leslie's voice is so soothing!! You brothers are adorable 💕 and I really appreciate the videos and adventures
Such neet antiques in this house. You are right; they would be a fortune in America.
Donna, I was thinking the same thing. People would pay thousands of dollars to own such beautiful antiques!
I am curious I would want somebody to taxate all these pieces and make a grand total. I think it would be in the 6 figures. Thanks for watching Donna!
@@BrosOfDecay Here in Portugal that furniture would cost a fortune, too! It's simply amazing! Those flowers are a wedding flower bouquet, traditional of the North of Portugal
@@snickers2877 - I disagree with your assessment that Americans prefer something else. - The problem is the housing builders. Most have small bedrooms with barely any space to put a bed. Their emphasis is in the kitchen, the bathroom and family rooms.
I have become addicted to your videos. I most appreciate that you respect these homes, I am as excited as you are as you go from room to room. I also collect vintage and love to see your finds. I am sad that
no one can rescue all the furniture or books.
wonderful, so classy and beautiful: absolutely a magical trip down memory lane thank you
Just discovered your channel, I love it. Thank you for sharing these wonderful, abandoned, and historically magical castles and mansions. Keep up the great work. Your voice adds the perfect touch. Stay safe and God bless!
Another awesome video...☺️😊
Our pleasure Marilyn :) x
i saw this house in other media, but under your description, the stuff there looks refreshed! good job!
Thank you young men. That was a fascinating tour.
That was fun. Love Handles music. Take as much time to show us everything. Thank you
Magnífico 👏👏👏 gracias por compartir esta experiencia .
Stay safe you guys! Gloves are a good idea. Thanks for another fine exploration. That bed is amazing! and huge!
Lesley i love the bed in the master bedroom too. Thank you and Jordy for the journey. Made my day.
Thank you so much guys for this beautiful video I so appreciate it so much ‼️💯⭐️ I can’t thank you enough ❤️🙏🏽🫶🏼

Wooooow !!!! Beautiful place,i love !!! 💓💓💓 Like always good job boys!!!
You have both picked a lovely place to explore, I can almost 'see" the people living there, thank you
the outside and the architectures of the house and grounds are my favorites to see
Fantastic video. Awesome furniture, beds, fireplace etc. Not to long though. Thanks guys. Loved it.
Lovely to hear that you enjoyed the lenght of video. Thank you for watching!
Hi guys!! Love this video, one of your best ever! You show details, ornaments, dates, paperwork, everything, plus it is a large video in a beautiful house. You put everything inside of it. Congrats Bros!!!
Hey Sylvia that is amazing to hear :) We did our very best on this one! Kind regards, Lesley x
That bed!!!! Oh my goodness ♡♡
Such a beautiful home, the female of the house really knew how to decorate the different bedrooms with matching curtains etc. I loved all of the old and antique furniture it had character, nowadays furniture isn't made as good or as ornate. Thank you both for a lovely tour of this amazing location. xx ❤
Thank you for your great appreciation of these fabulous places that have fallen to neglect and decay. It breaks my heart to see so many pieces just sitting and falling apart. Just a note here; you mention quite often about the chandeliers but the one light hanging from a ceiling is not a chandelier, it is simply a hanging light. Chandeliers have more than one arm with lights, many have crystals and other ornamentation added, as well. I have become someone addicted to your videos. So much history with these fabulous homes and furnishings. So sad that no one came in to save them from the state they have fallen to. Thank you for all the time you have devoted to filming these videos. The longer, the better!
I love your voice and your amazing accent as I stroll through all your outstanding videos. Keep up the good explores, my bros. Best regards from a most ardent fan from Canada.
Hey Linda lots of people comment on my accent to me it sounds no different than other english speakers haha Thank you for watching!
@@BrosOfDecay - Are you English? I thought you were Hispanic trying to speak English. From where in England?
Beautiful. Loved this home. I always wonder what the used to look like.
Jordy, you always do a great job filming!
These gorgeous rugs, beautiful pieces of furniture, the china, frames, mirrors, the books, art, history, gorgeous doors, ironwork, the chapels, windows, stairs, woodwork, stone, the gardens, the homes. . . I hate to see it rot. Thank you for showing the beauty in all of these places, maybe someone else will appreciate it and save some before another day goes by!
Loved this explore as i love all of them . This place was so beautiful. One thing though that is driving me crazy is what was behind that door that was behind the curtains you pulled back and looked at that little dress hanging there. I wish you would have opened that. Thank you so much for this video. Take care of yourselves. Love you guys
I am surprised and glad that the house has not been stripped bare!! Such stories they could tell!! Thank you
This was a beautiful big place! I'm surprised there wasn't a piano. Awesome video as always. 😘🤗👍

Thank you very much :) What is so intresting about my voice?
Really interesting. I really loved those fabulous beds, absolutely gorgeous! A shame they are left to decay. Your videos are never too long, I like the longer ones (1 hr +) where you get to see more details. Thanks guys!
