Just spent about 2 hours following this video to replace the bearing, as well as pretty thoroughly cleaning as many parts and pieces as possible. It was totally worth the time and effort. The bearing only costs $6on Amazon, and a good set of electronics screwdrivers was maybe $8-$12 more. Now I can fix loads of other fidgety things around the house! REMEMBER TO PHOTOGRAPH AS YOU GO EACH TIME YOU DISCONNECT OR REMOVE SOMETHING, BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER! I left a key part out and luckily caught my error. My only suggestion/comment would be that a fair amount of the video is not properly framed to get the parts of the coffee maker or the process involved. Worth a re-do, I think. Thanks for the helpful and informative video.

Thank you for your video! I have had the Vertuo machine for a little over 5 years now and it was waking up the entire household while making coffee in the morning, Nespresso offered me a small discount for a new machine, although not available for their latest line. I am so happy that I came across your video, and decided to try to fix it myself. I got a 5 pack of bearings on Amazon for less than $7 and followed your instructions step by step. It went great! Thanks again!!

I'm thankful for the video. The old bearing was crusty from corrosion and a lot of use. I ordered a new bearing from Amazon and the replacement process went smoothly. I did have a problem on reassembly that is worth noting though and not included in the instructions. Water leaked out of the cap being held by the four screws preventing the machine from working properly. On closer examination, I noted that the short metal pipe which inserts into the end of the rubber supply line has a "C" ring on it. (When I disassembled my unit, the short pipe came out of the rubber supply line). On reassembly, and when inserting the short metal pipe into the top of the head of the unit, it is important to align the gap in the "C" ring with the plastic tab within the head, otherwise it doesn't provide a proper seal and causes a leak under pressure from the pump. Once I noted this, the machine operated flawlessly. Thanks again for your video, you have saved many people a lot of $ in repairs by Nespresso, or having to purchase a replacement.

I have watched several videos on this problem, and you video is by far the most helpful. My bearing completely seized up, so all I was getting when attempting to make a coffee was a clicking noise for a few seconds, followed by a blinking error. I think it was repeating, 2 blinks, then pause, and repeat. Thank you SO MUCH, you just saved me $230+ I've ordered, installed the new bearing and now my Vertuoline is working perfectly.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on how to quiet our mornings in the kitchen. No longer do we need to turn up NPR on the radio each time we make a cup of coffee. I ordered bearings through Amazon and went to town on our Vertuo just as you instructed in your video. When doing so, the small hollow metal tube in my water line came out and I put it back in but apparently did not line up the small 3/4 round washer on it with the little notch on the surface that it rests on. I reassembled the unit with the new bearing ring and proceeded to put all my tools away before testing the unit. When I tested it, the water leaked out of the bottom of the unit below the water tank. I remembered that I had reinstalled the small metal tube and thought perhaps therein lay the problem. I pulled out my tools again and took the machine apart for a second time. I pulled out the water hose and looked it over. It took a little bit to find the notch but then proceeded to line up the washer with the notch, reassembled the unit and all works fine. Thanks so much for producing the video and helping out thousands who have been yelling conversations to their spouses each time a cup of coffee is being brewed!

Just followed instructions. Pulled the bearing out of the housing. Didn’t feel like buying a new one and waiting so i just spun the inside part of the bearing until it loosened up. Did that for about 2 minutes to make sure nothing is lodged in there and it was spinning freely. Put it all back together. And now the machines works. If it happens again I’ll buy a new bearing. Terrific video, I followed along step by step and worked like a charm! If you liked (or still like) Lego, you'll love this. Like many have said, use a container for the small screws and springs. Also take pictures at each step before you take things apart so you can easily refer back in case you get lost.
When I put my machine back together, I ran three cleaning cycles and some grounds came out, probably from being kicked loose. So be sure to do this before you brew your next cup of coffee.
Also a note on the silicone water hose: there is a metal pipe that must be lined up perfectly with the hose and the plastic cover. Make sure you line them up correctly when putting the machine back together or it won't seal properly and you'll get watery coffee and a leaky machine.

Fixed my Nespresso thanks to your video!!! Just a note for others…the first time re-assembling the machine, I tightened it down too much, so caused some friction in the spinner. After loosening it up ever so slightly, everything worked like a charm and was nice and quiet. The key is to tightening things up enough, but ensure the spinner moves relatively freely without “squeaking”.

Key learning for me was to ensure the correct alignment of the open part of the rim on the little metal nozzle attached to the hose with the tiny raised plastic piece (in direction of hose). Thank you so much for your informative video! I feel like the proverbial frog in a pot of slowly boiling water. I've owned my machine for years and lost track of just how loud my machine had become. I wanted to approach this with a little bit of science and downloaded a decibel meter app for my phone so that I could take volume readings before and after the bearing replacement. I was sure to take both measurements at a consistent distance of 2 feet with identical placement. The max decibel reading before replacing the bearing was a crazy 97 dB. With the new bearing, the max reading dropped to 73 dB. With the logarithmic nature of the dB scale, the 24 db drop equates to 1/8th the volume! The difference is staggering and wonderful! I accidentally ordered the standard steel bearing instead of the stainless/ceramic ones that you recommended. I received 6 bearings for the same price as one stainless steel bearing. I'll see how long the standard bearings last...perhaps as long as the other critical components on the machine which might break before rust becomes a problem. Either way, I'll be able to replace it 5 more times :) Thanks again!

Thank you!! Amazing video - almost threw the machine out it was so loud. Ended up going with not a stainless steel bearing but have 5 - so will see how long they last. Even if i have to do this every other month - worth it! Thanks again!

Very impressed with the quality of your instructions and video and am so thankful you show us how to put it back! Just waiting for my bearing to come in and it clearly needed it. Very rusty and stuck hard inside the casing. Had to soak it and use a hammer to knock the old one out.

I found your video very helpful and after bearing replacement the machine is quiet. I have several suggestions to make the process more clear. First, the use of a focused light such as a headlamp when working on the underside on the will allow one to see how to disengage the chrome cover more easily at the front of the machine. Second, I suggest that you alter the camera angle a bit so that the process you are doing is centered on the screen. Lastly, the way to insure alignment when re-installing the chrome cover is to close the machine and insure it's fully in lock position, before placing the cover on. Then, by holding the lever in the locked position as the cover is placed, it has to engage properly.

I did all you said and cleaned the bearing and filled it with wheel grease. It was easy with your video (even if it wasn't always clear). Good explanations though. I managed to reinstall everything without remaining parts...youppi. The greasing didn't eliminate the noise. I guess I will have to order a new bearing. Thank you.

I decided to try this - had to have my husband help as it was very difficult to unscrew the part that gets you to the bearing. Too bad that you can’t see the critical parts during half of the video. Someone said to photograph each step - that’s a great idea! All that being said, the new bearing solved the problem! Machine is so quiet now it’s unbelievable. Lesson learned - clean and descale on a more regular basis. $$ saved as I was ready to throw the machine in the trash! Wish Romafix would make a new video tho with better video and slow down. Music is also unnecessary. Thanks tho for letting us all know this can be solved!

So I'm back to report that with roughly twice daily use, it took the standard bearings 5 months to fail again. The stainless/ceramic bearings are not a place to save money. They are a must if you'd like this repair to last! I just installed the new stainless bearings and am sure these will last longer. The standard bearing was in absolutely horrible shape...far worse than the original that lasted 8 years. Thanks again for your helpful video!

I am plagiarizing Donald Dadey since he said it perfectly: "This is absolutely fantastic! Thank you so much for this video! Simple instructions and now the machine is REALLY quiet compared to what it was. Thank you again for posting this!!!!!
One caveat - it was a little disconcerting to have the bottom part of the video cut off but one can eventually see everything. Maybe re-do? If not, I'm still VERY appreciative.

Thanks, our machine is so quiet now. However we had so much trouble trying to get the part with the big spring back in place we just did not have the strength in our arthritic thumbs to get it back in. It took almost two hours of pushing down we actually ended up cracking the plastic so hopefully the machine will last until the next FREE with capsule purchase offer.

Thank you for step by step on how to open the machine. P.S. if bearing is in good condition pay close attention to the bottom part that get screwed onto the bearing. Similar to dogs on a washing machine they can be stuck in position and they should be able to spin freely all 4 dogs clean free up and replace if not broken, this should also repair the load sound when spinning.

Edited: I successfully changed the ball bearing, the noise subsided but it’s not making the coffee properly. I think I might have tightened to much at some point. Now I definitely need to buy another machine.
***Thank you for the video. I got it, I changed it!!! Very proud of myself. I have this machine for 5 years and I thought the noise was normal wear and tear.
So let me tell you that it’s not that simple. You will get frustrated and you will probably need an extra hand at some point. Another tip: mine is a De’Longhi model. Don’t close it! The spring on the left side won’t open it by pressing it.
When removing the big spring, inside that part is really hard to turn counterclockwise, my husband helped me with a plier. No more noise! I think I’ll stay with this machine for now! 😊
