I was in Salt Lake City when I was 16. Dad took us on a cross-country road trip that summer, and instead of coming back to Arkansas via I-40 like we went, we headed east on I-80 to I-25 then I-70. I remember the Bonneville Salt Flat, the Kennecott Open Cut Copper Mine, the Great Salt Lake, and those mountains. You definitely need to travel Utah, it is very interesting.

Very true. This video shows less than 10% of the city, and not the most scenic part by any measure. The drive UP Parley's Canyon is a FUN drive, especially when there is not much traffic - you can really zip along.... I love this idea and may do the same drive on a Sunday morning when the highways are mostly deserted around here, taking away most of the distractions of the vehicles on the road. Another video driving I-15 from northern Ogden past Provo-Orem would also be a blast! Maybe even another return trip on another Sunday morning?
