- PROJECT ALIENS APC PART 5 ‘1/16 RADIO CONTROLLED APC’
Welcome to episode 5 in my Aliens APC build series. In this episode I go from start to finish 3D printing and building a 1/16 radio controlled APC from the movie ALIENS. I use a heavily modified Tamiya TT-02 chassis to drive this iconic vehicle.

you sir are an ultimate badass, hell of a job
Thank you that, is a great compliment. 😎
@@StaplesandVine That`s what Ii would be building in a Zombie apocalypse but with slight modifications to suit the environment oh and have a rear section with a ruggedized(1/4 in plate steel body) version of Mad Max`s V8 interceptor with a 1000bhp diesel engine running on a mix of Moon Shine & Browns Gas(Hydrogen)...... :):)
That sounds like a great plan... 😎
I'm surprised after all these years no manufacturer has ever released a remote control APC vehicle which is something I think that would sell really well. I must add that this was a super impressive build especially that modifying of the chassis.
It is a bit of a mystery. it could be that those who can just aren't interested. It took a bit of working out how to do the conversion and sourcing an appropriate vehicle but the TT-02 is perfect. 🙂
If the non-rc models go for $300-$400, then an RC model of one would probably more than double that and very few people would be able to buy it.
@@StaplesandVine Not that much of a mystery when you consider that an official license does cost money. Especially for a successful franchise. Profit margin would be small.
In regard to this tank, it would need to be bigger scale and would have to weigh a bit more to really give it the feeling of a heavy vehicle (realistic movent of suspension etc.). I would be thinking of something like the Armortek 1/6 scale "models".
Absolutely superb. Would love to see it in an urban environment in low light with the lights on. Think you'd be hard pressed not to think it was the real thing.
Thank you, yes I would love to shoot some footage in an industrial / urban environment. Sadly not much of that where I live. 🤔
@@StaplesandVine If it can withstand water put it in the shower and use a flower spray set to misty to simulate rain, turn off the lights and add some thunder flashes with a cell phone set on automatic. Do a closeup of it moving with a cardboard piece on the floor to get a rough surface and another (black) as backdrop.
It would look amazing just like the outdoors scene in the movie.
Don't damage the precious model if it can't do this of course.
Another way to get a nice looking backdrop for still photos is using a PC screen with a photo from the movie or off a construction site or plant that looks the part on it.
Just place an elevated surface for it to stand on in front of the screen, turn off the room lights and take a photo at a slight angle to avoid direct reflection in the screen.
The vehicle lights will make it look great. Add a little ambient light if needed.
If you add some smoke to it even better. Dry ice in a cup woud do it.
Wayland Yutani would be proud of you ❤
'Building Better Worlds', through superior firepower... 😁
@StaplesandVine But you build The express elevator to Hell... :D
10/10. Outstanding craftsmanship. Just be careful. “Ripley, you've blown the transaxle!”
Thank you. Yes the famous Achilles heel of the APC .... Ripley. 😁
Now you just need a 1:16 RC drop ship to deploy it from :D
Not helpful... 🤣🤣🤣
Then make the USS Sulaco too haha
@@luigivincenz3843 I supose you want that in 1/16 as well. 😁
@@StaplesandVine Well, when you start something, one must go all the way XD
"Building better APCs"
Wow, incredible creativeness and ingenuity!
Thank you, it had its moments but I solved most of the problems. 🙂
Huge fan of the movie and this vehicle! Bravo!
The beach shots makes it basically look like the real thing since there's nothing to break the illusion of scale in the shot. Whats great is that you have left a lot of space on the inside as well that can easily support some extra things like LED controls, speakers and motors fort the turrets as well.
Glad you like my APC there is certainly a lot of scope for others to take it on to another level. That I would love to see. 😎
YES! And those tires!!! Oh man this is too epic!
You appear to have enjoyed the build.... 😎😎😎
I do a lot of 3D printing and make my own stuff. You make it look way easier than what it is. The fine details sell this thing perfectly. Well done!
Thank you, people that don't have a 3D printer think it's all plug and play but as you know that's just the start. You have to be prepared for a lot of hand finishing. Large geometric parts are especially problematic. 🙂
@@StaplesandVine 100%. I made a custom 3D printed spaceship, search for "MIRAN Lancer Class 3D Printed Warship". (shameless plug I guess but I'm not trying to build a channel) It's a nightmare figuring out how to print/orient/finish/etc it. Mine required very little hand finishing and no painting; so in comparison my design took forever but printing was easy. Oh...and you did electronics, which makes it all the more harder too.
You are a true master of this craft!
Amazing work!
Thank you, it is a lot of work but well worth the effort. 🙂
Exellent mate could be used as a aliens movie prop keep up the good work
Thank you, I would like to try some proper filming with it to see how realistic we can go. 🙂
Such an accurate build and a great paint scheme. I've shared to my 1/16 scale rc tank group on Facebook. And I've always said if I win big on the lottery this is the first thing getting built 👍
Thanks Andrew for sharing my video it's much appreciated. Good luck with the lottery. 🙂
Amazing work. It looks super beautiful👍
Thank you, I'm delighted with it. Roll on the Dropship... 🙂
That looks so cool, I think anyone who has seen the movie would love to own either scale of this APC.
Thank you very much, glad you like it. It was a brilliant design for a movie vehicle. Not a good real world APC though. 🙂
Super beautiful, functional and simply executed! Congratulations!👍🍀Good luck!🍀
Thank you, glad you enjoyed my build. 🙂
Incredible. Simply incredible.
Thank you, glad you like it. Check out my Slave 1 build also on my channel. 🙂
I hope James Cameron see this video! EPIC!
So do I, just hope he doesn't want royalties.... 😮
@@StaplesandVine I reckon he would be mightily impressed! The miniature makes on Aliens had to some tremendous work with very basic stuff. He would love you APC.
They were certainly pretty resourceful back in the day that's for sure. He is a great designer and nailed it with the APC. 😎
Amazing! You are inspiring. I really wish I had your patience. It looks fantastic!
I think you should add servos to to the turrets. And if you can add the sliding mechanism on the turret too 😊
And 4 wheel steering next?
Thanks for sharing this. It looks awesome on the beach.
Thanks for the great comment, it means a lot. There is certainly scope for improvement with the chassis. Maybe that's for a future video. It takes me quite a while to work out how to do stuff before I start designing but that's for another day. 🙂
It looks amazing you did an exceptional job
Thanks, that's very kind of you. 🙂
18:08 personally, I think going for green was the right choice. when I think of the Colonial Marines' kit and vehicles, I don't think of the IRL props but rather the scenes they appear in, and in those scenes, with that lighting, they did not look like the Humbrol Brown Bess the props were painted in. they looked green
That certainly seems to be the consensus. 🤔
Bloody brilliant mate!
Thanks again...😁
Amazing work. The shots on the beach break the illusion only when it is in motion.
A superb piece of work. Thank you for your video.
Glad you enjoyed my build. I hope you like some of the others on my channel. 🙂
Masterpiece, looks real; amazing work sir.
Thank you, that's much appreciated. 🙂
Hi, really perfect work! Huge respect!!!
Hope the stls will be available soon...
Thank you, yes I'm sorting out the stls next week. Got to write the instructions as well. Not long now. 🙂
Absolutely amazing build. The shots at the end we're truly amazing and belonged in a film set, now you gotta build the Jordens tractor from Hadleys Hope 😁
Thank you, that's very kind. I would love to film a more atmospheric sequence. Maybe with the Dropship... 🤔
a cheaper way of filling the gaps is cheap supa glue along the join and bicarb soda dumped over the top, then brush off the excess. It sets like concrete instantly and can be sanded and painted. We made rubber like bumpers for our tug boat models we did same a your tires but my mate who works in roofing decided to use black RTV silicon!! IT works brilliantly take longer to set (several days to a week depending on air temp)
@@Wolfe351 yes, I tried that method. Never really got on with it.... 🥺
Project completed aka Game over, Man!
The perfect quote, excellent. 😎😎😎
Just amazing work!!!
Thank you. Check out some of my other builds on my channel. 🙂
Just awesome in both scales, once the files are released a 1/24 scale build in both the original colour and perhaps digital camo could be on my build list
Thank you, glad you like my APC. Digital camo would look amazing on the APC 😎😎😎
you should make a cover like this for
a robotic lawnmower 😂
I would buy one !
With firing turrets.... obviously. 😁
Really fantastic! Great work!
Thank you, plenty more to come on the channel. 🙂
Fantastic work!
Thank you, that's very kind. 🙂
Amazing work! Making one digitally in 3d is one thing, but I'm very envious of having a 'real' version. Great job sir!
Thank you, yes it is a big step from digital to real world. There is a lot to consider in making a functioning model. 🙂
That turned out well lad well done.
Thank you, very kind. 🙂
This is really awesome. For v2.0 you should add the turret controls via RC as well. It would be great to be able to move and stow the top turret mechanically!
Thanks, yes, having the turrets move as well would be very 😎
Absolutely incredible work. Combining one of my favorite movies with my favorite hobby into perfection.
Thank you, that's very kind. Hopefully this is now your favourite channel.... 🙂
You could use a lateral wood clamp to press either end for block parts to have greater adhesion.
Yes that would work very well, but I don't have any. 😟
@@StaplesandVine As you're already creative, make one, 😁
🤣🤣🤣 how hard can it be...? 🤔
Utterly superb!
Thank you, you have a 'Heart of Gold'. 🙂
Tip for making clear resin prints "regain" their clarity: use varnish on them. Also works for epoxy and I think cast resin too.
Thanks for the tip. I tried a few on other builds. Still looking for the best option... 🙂
Beautiful !
Thank you... 🙂
Amazing work!
Thank you. That's kind of you. 🙂
An amazing job with both the 1/24 detail and RC 1/16. Never understood why they never mechandised a 1/16 or 1/18 if figures were made. Well done.
Thank you, glad you like my APC. I guess they didn't think it was commercially viable - fools... 🤔
love watching a master at work..... great job looking forward to next build
Thank you, that's very kind. I still have the MILANO to finish then it's on to the Dropship. 🙂
Fantastic looking RC version of your APC build.
Thank you, it looks so much better bigger. 🙂
Awesome as always! Very talented 👌🏻
Thank you, that's much appreciated. Now just to check and prep the files. 🙂
As a long time builder of 1/16 Tamiya full option tanks I am just blown away by this epic build, The M577 is my favorite armored movie vehicle of all time. I am now convinced I will need to get better FDM and resin printers so I can hopefully make one of these myself. I hope you might also consider selling the cast parts as well with the photo etch and paint stencils as a set.
Thanks for the great comment. I am looking at adding the metal parts as well for both scales to the accessory set. 🙂
Wow you didt that sir yosh!!!!!
Thank you, that's very kind of you. 🙂
That is impressive!
Thank you, glad you like my APC. 🙂
I can't believe what I have just watched!!!!!
Hopefully in a good way... 🙂
A work of art really
Thank you, that's very kind. 🙂
Amazing work,
Thank you 🙂
Awesome work
Thank you. 🙂
Honestly, in order for the interior of the Aliens APC to have the features it had as shown in the movie, it would make sense that it should be done in 1:16 scale for 1:18 figures. The same with whatever other scale figures you want to portray. Just make the APC a little bit larger scale for dioramas.
That's the beauty of 3D printing you can scale up or down to print any size. I chose 1:24 for the interior version as that is the scale I will make the Dropship. 🙂
@@StaplesandVine That's a good idea since that dropship will be massive. Are there any decent action figures at that scale for dioramas though?
Great job!
Thank you, glad you like the build. 🙂
cant belive how good this is... great job
Thank you. If you like this check out my Slave 1 build. 😎
Awesome project. It runs so smoothly. Perfect done. I adore your work. Keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, plenty more builds to come. 🙂
Superglue is fine of course but ABS can also be glued effectively with poly cement.
Yes, I tried that before but when there are such large surface areas it doesn't fully set leaving the ABS soft. 🤔
Amazing work! As an rc tank/truck/scale nerd, I'd love to articulate the turret, and machine gun flashes/sound for the guns! Very well done!!
Thank you, great comment. Maybe those features will come in the future. I am also looking at 4WS.... 🙂
Very cool. Great work
Thank you, glad you enjoyed my build. 😎
OMG this is so Awesome!
Thank you, glad you like my build. 😎
Moveable turret, i see options for the remote control of that XD
Also, this thing got bigger than i expected.
Another job nicely done !
Honestly though, if you were to spend more time on moveable turret, some more decals en detail and a bit more of a damaged paintjob, a window, perhaps make it a bit heavier, you could use this as a prop in a movie already. I mean, aside from the bouncing, this already looks like a very zoomed out shot over huge terrain.
Great comment. Certainly servos could easily be fitted to rotate the turrets. Making the upper turret stowable is more difficult. There is certainly plenty of room in there for activities. The front suspension is an issue. Maybe more weight? I am looking at 4WS which would be very 😎
What an amazing build...
Thank you, check out my SLAVE 1 build if you like the APC. 🙂
incredible job!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the build. 🙂
Fantastic, good to see you didn't mind it getting dirty at the beach 😀 The turning circle seemed better than I would have thought.
The beach had to be done. Once dry the sand was blasted with an airline - all good. Turning circle isn't terrible but could be improved if the front wheel walls were cut out more. 🙂
This is one of the best models I ever seen. Damn amazing work
Thank you that is so kind of you to say. 😁
That is just awesome.
Thank you, glad you like it. 🙂
I've never seen so much superglue splashed around.
I have always worked on the rule that "less is more" when using cyano-acrylate. It is a rule which has always served me well.
Because "one drop holds a ton".
Superglue is cheap and the joints need to be bullet proof for a 3D printed RC vehicle. This is not a static model, it has a lot of mass and I have to be sure the parts stay together. 3D prints always have a degree of distortion and larger parts more so. Peace of mind is well worth a few grams of glue. 'It's the only way to be sure...' 🙂
That was awesome! I've always loved the APC design and your build is beautiful. Excellent job!
Thank you, if you liked the APC check out my Slave 1 build. 🙂
It would be awesome to have the drop ship and the APC both radio-controlled! Drop ship touches down and the APC rolls out of its belly just like the movie! And whenever whoever does it, remember that I want this thing "to go smooth and by the numbers."😁
'Affirmative...' Totally agree. Sadly tech isn't there yet for a Dropship that will do it all. There is a superlight RC dropship on CZcams that looks great though. 😎
Wow...just wow. Amazing work.
Thank you, that's kind of you. 😎
Looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
Thank's, that's very kind of you. 🙂
A very comprehensive and well put together video, usually I skim through such diy videos but this one kept my attention with the narration, definitely inspired me to work more on my 1/16 rc Panther G.
Thank you, I really appreciate your feedback it helps steer me in the right direction to grow the channel. 🙂
Just watched this after you shared the link in the Facebook group. Love your work, such an amazing replication.
Thank you, glad you like my APC. If you like that, check out my Slave 1. MILANLO restarts soo then it's onto the Dropship. 😁
Another great episode. Awsome job, but... ...for a second there when I saw you cuting RC chassis in half, I was thinking that you will join two front halfs from two chassis and that way have both front and rear axles steered... (maybe a little idea for next episode?? xD) Anyway, youre work is inspiring. Best Regards .
@@MANIANes well, actually, I am looking into all wheel steering and maybe some other features. 😁. Glad you enjoyed the build series, thanks for the great comment. 🙂
Everything about this is just amazing!
Thank you, glad you liked the build. 🙂
What an AMAZING video!! Very well done. You knocked this one out of the park.
Thank you, I am delighted with the result and lots of others seem to like it too. 🙂
Good job on that, brother.✝️👍🏻
Thank you, much appreciated. 🙂
Fantastic work. The film APC had additional rear steering as well. I was curious if that was noticed.
Incredible!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed my build. 🙂
So cool, great build 👌
Thanks, glad you like it. MILANO next then.... Dropship. 🙂
Just amazing! It looks stunning.
Thank you. 🙂
nice work
Thank you! Cheers! 🙂
this is awesome. good job
Thank you, it was a real moment seeing it running on the beach. 🙂
ITS VERY COOL !
Thank you, it's not perfect but it looks real enough. 🙂
This is just so amazing. You are incredibly talented. I love the design of this ande the dropship from aliens. You really nailed this one
Thank you, that is very kind. I'm really looking forward to tackling the Dropship. 🙂
Great job! I use spray filler to make my 3D printed parts smooth on the surface.
Thanks, Yes filler primer is a great option. 😎
Looks amazing. Great job.
Thank you very much. 😎
Wow very good work and yes now that it moves it looks more like the movie one all you need is the planets background LOL Congrats on a fine build. 👍👍
Thank you I would love to shoot a proper movie sequence with it. That would be so cool. 😎
that is so awesome!!! if you sold these, exactly like this, RC and all, I would buy it in a heart beat mate.
Hopefully, one day, someone will... 😎
The APC looks amazing!
Thank you, glad you like it. 😎
Very well done!
Thank you. 🙂
This is epic, you have inspired me
megga thumbs up :)
Thank you, that's great to hear. Glad you liked my build. Check out some of the others on my channel. 🙂
Awesome 🙌🏼
Thank you! 😁
Well done good sir.
What a beauty
Thank you, she came out well in the end. 🙂
Now that is a Cyber Truck!
If only... The glass still breaks though. 😁
supercool..... next step up workmanship
Thank you, I learn something new every day on builds like this. 🙂
