halo is literally the moral center of the show
Great catch of Kat basically being Starbuck to Starbuck and that Kara was acting more like Tigh when he is not sober.
Agathos: from the Greek language, meaning 'good'.
Agathon is probably the only morally consistent character we meet in B.G.
And Karl means 'man' in Norse/German. So, Karl Agathon means a 'good man'.
@@talonkarrde9904 ...nice, thanks!
Helo's special skill in the BSG board game: Moral Compass. 😁
I see Karl + Lee as team "trying to do what's good" , and that is why they're often in conflict with team Adama + Rosalin who have a more "trying to do what's right for the whole " .
The subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) difference between what's good and right often shows up in their different opinions .
Ooooo love this type of writing
Helo is such a nice guy that they had to hire a Canadian actor to play him! Can you say, 'typecasting'?! Sure ya can! ;-]
Yes Joe, Sharon got it right way back at the beginning "He's a good man. He always does the right thing." It's a sadness that Tahmoh Penikett is cast so rarely in other great shows, I think he's great.
Something I love about this episode is that we learn a lot about Kat. We met Kat in the first intake of new pilots, and if you've kept an eye on her, there's a clear sense of her seeing Kara as a role model for 'hotshot pilot', but the shine on Kara's halo has tarnished visibly lately and Kat is so angry with her (I think), for falling off the pedestal.
Great chat again guys 😘
It's great to see side characters, whom were once nuggets, now beginning to be someone to not mess around with!!
so say we all is basically a sublimation of amen its actually really appropriate
Helo💗 Personally I have always loved the convos and sibling vibes we get with Helo and Starbuck. We don't get many of their quiet moments of just the two of them and their chats/counseling moments are some of my fave in the series.
Thanks again guys for another fun reaction. So say we all!😉😄💚
Maybe “Black Market” is a “filler” episode.
“Scar” I prefer to consider a “transitional” episode; they are setting up the next storylines. Not much happening (yet) but it is not meaningless either.
“Transitional”. 😉
This episode felt a lot like Wing commander!
So happy ypu are watching this show. Thamks
for anyone wondering these bottle episodes were made so that syfy could have content to put up for awards. notable scifi shows are skipped over by the emmys
Makes sense thank you
This is indeed a filler episode but I would take about 7 more full seasons of this. It is a very important one though, that conversation between Starbuck and Sharon was a bit of insight into how the Cylon memories work. That scene between Starbuck and Lee was important for stuff later, and it is a super important episode for Kat. It developed a lot of characters and started a few plot lines that will come back later.
Also think about how terrifying the Cylon race is. It's literally the last thing in the universe I would want to fight a war for survival against. They have infinite resources, infinite time, and its in your benefit not to kill them because every time you do so they just pretty much level up and respawn. They are basically Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow. 😂 The more you kill them the more they learn and the harder it becomes to kill them again. It's a really fucked up situation, not sure how would I keep my soldiers hopeful and motivated.
YES edge of tomorrow is exactly what I thought of when we learned they can respawn basically!!
Holy shit that one guy is Larry from Eureka I never noticed
Thanks, Mikey! Thanks, Joe! Thanks, Mike! ✴
I agree with all of you, this is in fact technically filler but the thing about this show is that even the filler episodes (black market excluded imo) give us information and character development that we need. Scar is probably one of if not my favorite filler episode, at least for season two. The next few episodes you'll probably classify as filler also, most of us do, but after that shit starts happening an pretty much doesn't stop. I'm already so excited for the end of the season and the start of season 3. It's so damn good and I'm pretty confident it's gonna blow your minds. Also Joe I gotta warn you that this will not be the last time we get this format of flashing back and forth through time. It's not my favorite storytelling device either by any means. It's one of those things you gotta just accept for what it is. But I will also say that it's employed sometimes within the better overall episodes so don't be too hard on em when they start out that way. None of this is spoilers right? Hope not. Thats not my intention.
So back to this episode, it's one that I didn't initially like all that much as Kat tends to grate on the old nerves, but it's one that I've liked better and better each time I've watched it. It's rough seeing Starbuck in this position but we needed to see it. We also got a little bit more development from OUR Sharon, they really kinda spoon feed us a little bit at a time with how even in little ways she's trying, she's helping, and she really seems to care about us. And we honestly haven't earned it yet.
One thing that's changed for me over the years is the lens with which I view the Starbuck and Apollo scene. I used to ship them so hard when I was young. But as I've gotten older and have gotten out of several toxic relationships myself, it's harder for me to swallow the toxic nature of their back and forth, will they/won't they 90s/aughts trope. I love them, and I respect the ride or die complicated friendship/love they feel for each other. You'll never hear me discredit that or deny the truth of it. You'll also NEVER catch me shipping Dee and Lee. Gross. I don't like it, never have never will. All I'm saying is your feelings for this show are subject to evolution.
One thing that has never and will never change is our universal love for Helo. We fans singlehandedly saved him from Caprica, and boy were we rewarded. He is the moral compass of the ship, the fleet, the show, and our hearts. He keeps us honest. He has nothing in his big heart but love and he takes his lashes for it. And how frakkin adorable is his friendship with Kara?! He's the only person she feels comfortable being soberly vulnerable with. I really can't say enough how perfect a character he turned out to be.
I wish I could speed up time, or make every day Wednesday and Friday haha. I want more reactions!
Edit:
Apologies for the essay, eses. Didn't realize I had so much to say.

"I am so confused!"
just another point to explain after [SPOILERS!] and [SPOILERS!]
long story short: Starbuck is a great pilot, and when she's not on a streak of good Cylon ass kicking, she needs that kick of satisfaction for doing something good.
fucking Lee isn't about the love, it's about "I want to fuck you, and you will give me that, and I want to see that objective through".... and it's not up to Starbuck that Lee will say yes or no... doesn't matter how skilled a pilot she is, and how well she can fly a Viper or how much crazy maneuvering she can do without breaking a sweat, it's about Lee understanding what Starbuck wants, and Lee can _probably figure it out_ but he's not trying.
you will understand the whole thing if you're set on a goal, and you can look at everyone around you like "Keep at what your ancestors did, meanwhile I'm off to be great"
Starbuck doesn't care about what is seen as good, wrong, adequate or mandatory... she just want to see her idea through, whichever it might be, on and off the cockpit.
You guys reviewed my second favorite movie of all time yesterday and now reviewing my favorite BSG episode. Hope you guys enjoyed!
We did! We hope you enjoy!!
@@732ReviewCrewI did! won’t lie when Scar exploded I was hoping for Mike on the right to go “Explosions!”
everyone loves hilo.the minor characters in the show are damn well created!even if they haven't done anything GRAND, they are still meaningful and loved.
Whenever you think it's okay to ignore the "filler" later on you will regret it when it comes back around. There is no filler. This is all meat, extra gravy, and Dessert topped with ice cream.
Cylon Raider Aces are a thing, and BSG Classic easter eggs are never filler.
Definitely not a filler episode. BSG is 80% character drama and 20% sci-fi action series, imho. The overarching plot moves very slowly and exists primarily to provide a framework for the character development. Really enjoying your reactions!
Not sure if you were able to see the extended Pegasus, but the opening scene in it was Starbuck laying out a rescue mission back to Caprica to Adama and the President.
Kat is my favorite character. I love any episode she is in. I guess that is because I love underdogs. She is not only an underdog but also a courageous bi***. Like Starbuck with none of the advantages.
Keep taking note of those Tigh/Starbuck similarities
Extremely tight.
Already noticed! Kat helped point it out
Enjoyed your reaction, thanks.
ooooo a good one, yall gonna like the details in this one
spoilers.

they now know they cant continue to use the same tactics, formations and what not, they know they have to be more chaotic, inventive, that its an arms race, but not for weapons but knowledge, the cylons suck at innovation, proven by how this whole time they dont update their fleet much, its all about the mind games and the humans are gonna have to use their best asset, their ability to adapt. it also shows how the arc of starbuck of how she has to step aside and let the new gen of heros to take the lime light and sometimes be the bad guy cause they need one, tye was hers, she is theirs and they will be it for the next after haha, anger can be a good motivator, rivalry too, but also having a hero you can relate and aspire to is key.
Huh, just realized we see no therapists/psychologists in this show… wonder if they exist in the BG world?
The Oracles seem close.
Only doc Cottle...
Personally kat really ground my gears in this episode. And should've run her mouth at starbuck in private IMO and not in front of the other pilots.
You can just see how run down they're getting
Very fair. Never question superiors in front of others as it can cause issues with the chain of command
Filler? Fluff? Noooooooooo. The non technical term is 'One and done'. The technical term is 'episodic'. In 2024 we are so adapted to sweeping arcs in television writing that episodic feels small and inconsequential. What is so odd here is having long form storytelling with one and done episodes sprinkled into it. These small situations pale in comparison to the beautiful big picture of getting the heck to Earth. Which is why I hated this episode when it first aired. Damn execs.
That said, when it's done well I am a fan of both forms of writing. I am amazed when I can watch a 'one and done' and have it set up a conflict, present false solutions, reach a solution AND feel as if meaningful moments happened AND feel as if the episode were sweeping in under 50 minutes of air time. It's one of the reasons I respect Stargate franchise as much as I do. That is so hard to do well.
And then there's Gilligan's Island... "Those. poor. people..."

🔔 Really tired of seeing this latest bullshit move by CZcams to mar the viewing experience of watching a video (like this very one) by jamming a continuation of the previously just-seen ad into the visual field of the desired video (on the lower left-hand side). You can't 'dismiss' it either. It stays there then eventually goes away at its own leisure. The thing is too: this is just the start. It's testing the waters. If there's no pushback by the viewers then Y/T will likely eventually have that marring of videos remain for the entire length of the videos. Remember the age-old warning: "Give 'em an inch and they'll (eventually) take a MILE!"
:( sorry this happens friends. We'll look into specific ad types to see if we can opt out
@@732ReviewCrew God bless you
@@732ReviewCrew Don't feel too bad if there's no way to do that. It's not your fault, it's just YT. You can only get around so much, and you guys do a great job editing and showing us as much content as possible whilst making it easy to follow along with the scenes you have to blur or can't show at all. BSG is notorious for being an editing nightmare and you guys have the least disjointed feeling videos at the end of the day. Some people are impossible to please and YT is naturally going to try to shoehorn in ads wherever they can. We appreciate the quality of your work.
That means a lot. Our videos do get hit with monetization restrictions occasionally for this show only, but our patrons love it so we take the good with the bad.
Some shows are more lenient
Disagree with Mike, it isn't filler or fluff episode, and it exceedingly reductive to to say reduce it down to 1 line of dialogue. There was a lot of character development and this show is pretty much all about character. Without these episodes that are fairly mundane, there are no stakes.
Fair view point. It helps to humanize the crew
As someone who thinks the term "filler episode" gets overused, this is absolutely a filler episode
