Wooden Door Mats...The Best Door Mats Ever??

  • In this video, I finally capitulate and do away with those crappy Kmart door mats that currently grace our house! I made them from some left over treated pine joists I had down the side of the shed.
They measure 740mm x 450mm and about 70mm tall. I didn't want them to have a bigger foot print than the ones we already had at the doors. Our back step has a decent sized step up, slightly more than feels usual for a step up as the slab for our house has fall at the back for drainage.
A few things i will do differently if I revisit this project: 1.) run a line for all the screws I put in to be on the same plane. They are virtually there now, but if you were making these as a production model, having the screws all aligned would give them that professional look. 2.) I'd probably route a rabbit into the "feet" so that each of the planks on top slotted in and were more secure to the base.3.) Maybe some rubber stoppers on the feet so that had better grip on the ground, but this is not really necessary.I hope you enjoyed this.

      Hi Tim,
After the last 12 months being absolutely nutty, I'm back on track making projects! Thank you for your well wishes! I hope you and yours are safe and sound!

you are smart to write down the measurements as you make them. not me, i pretend to memorize the dimensions and make the wrong size cuts.... ;-(

Thanks Shaun. I also made a much lower profile one for my mum last year that she used when my parents were travelling around Australia. It worked great with their caravan!
