      ID guy is among my favorites as well, so that's big praise. We have similar styles - He's explicitly more on the design side of things where I'm more market/marketing/positioning but we approach things in the same kind of analytical way.
      Thanks!!!! 😃😃😃

    For me, Tudor hit it out of the park with this watch. The time only is a masterpiece. I don’t care about the Red Bull text the same way I don’t care about faux rivets on The BB58. I love the dial color and red accents. The interplay between the different materials , textures and bezel, crown and case color is deeply pleasing. The fixed lugs are perfect for this interpretation. For me it’s the most interesting watch Tudor sells right now.

    As a yacht racer myself, I do not have an issue with watch-yachting collaborations, but I would only wear a luxury watch in the yacht club bar after racing. When I'm actually racing, I need a Casio G-Shock or similar for two reasons - I need a digital count down timer for timing the start of the race, and I need a watch that I dont care if if gets scratched or bashed.

    • @Mike.thiswatchthatwatch
      @Mike.thiswatchthatwatch  Před rokem +2

      I have on occasion been known to function as forward crew / trimmer and I tend to agree - It's G-shocks or garmins or other specialised equipment that finds it's way onto sailors wrists for racing. Not a Tudor, Rolex or IWC... 😃

      I thought about getting this watch but would it take a bash or knock on a wall or gate etc? Like most of my watches they stay in a draw afraid to be worn in practical, rugged, outdoor conditions in case of being scratched or dented. I think the way forward is the victorinox inox automatic with a detachable rubber bumper has absolutely nailed it,its completely bash and scratch proof and you'll never worry again, . I wish other much higher end brands would use this system..

    I like the design but just cant imagine myself buying one. It might age as well as the Moon swatch. Carbon composite is exquisite plastic with lots of engineering properties that make it fantastic but its still plastic. Don't get me wrong, I like it but if I would buy a Tudor it would not be this one. I think you are quite right in saying that this is a lazy and safe collaboration attempt but it will probably sell really well. Have a great weekend! 💪💪

Bs the price man, the price is incredible, I am sold on the time only, like really sold on it, for me its a homerun, and since so many people seem to dislike it it becomes an underdog, which I like even more! Great Vid! I have a Pelagos LHD, an FXD, and a Red Bull FXD. I love all three. The carbon case and the strap are really beautiful. The Red Bull text at 12 o'clock is not my favourite bit of writing on a watch to be brutally honest. But the case is SO fabulous. I think I might have mentioned that?

    I pretty much agree with you. The FXD Marine National was the first Tudor I was really impressed with, both for the look and feel and because of the back story. But I never bought it. In the end this great Tudor diver is just another diver. When I saw the Alinghi being announced I thought along the lines you described... "Man, they just had to ruin the FXD". But when I saw it in person I was sold, 30 min later I was the proud owner of the non-chrono version of the Tudor FXD Alinghi, and it's one of my favorite watches. Also, I have to admit that the hate towards this watch from some Tudor fans makes the wearing experience even better. I have a similar thing with my black DLC Breitling Navitimer 8, which was quickly renamed Aviator 8 in fear of Navitimer fans burning the factory down. Sometimes, hate is good.

  • @wzk921109
    @wzk921109 Před 7 měsíci

    To me, this FXD is hard sale. I simply demand ceramic bezels before I’d consider a diver.
    That’s the only reason I don’t buy the first release.
    Being an actual diver, a traditional diving watch is the last thing I’ll bring underwater today.
    Daydate is much more likely to be worn daily.

  • @jons6280
    @jons6280 Před rokem +1

    Thanks for the very thoughtful review. I tried on the Chrono today and I really liked it. The mix of colours and materials make the watch interesting, as you say. The Red Bull text is the sort of thing which looks prominent in photos but is less so in real life. Certainly it’s the sort of thing that I could tune out in a day or two of ownership (I have a Rolex Deepsea Seadweller and quite happily tune out the novel that’s written on the dial and just focus on the beautiful blue black dial and telling the time). The worst thing for me was the strap. It feels cheap. Given that most owners of the watch will not be racing yachts it would be good to give them the option of something more luxurious and substantial.

    • @Mike.thiswatchthatwatch
      @Mike.thiswatchthatwatch  Před rokem

      Interesting reflections. I know from others that the strap on this and the MN often something people have "mixed feelings" about. Either because it's velcro or because of the perception of quality. Your own view largely supports that perspective.
      Personally I like the colour combo, but I'm not big on the velcro. It always ends up looking worn out very quickly.
      Glad you liked the vid 😀😀😀

    For the purpose I am looking for, this watch fits perfectly. I want a workout/swim/running watch with a count down bezel that I do not need to worry about getting scratched. This does it and it does it very nicely. Sure I could wear a gshock, which I have a couple, but I enjoy wearing my "luxury" watches in all occasions, so for my purpose this is perfect.

    As an FXD owner, I'm in the small minority who feels like this release complete devalues the intent of the original FXD, completely to your point. I wish they would have repurposed another watch, and changed the colors, but alas, here we are - and unless they bring out ANOTHER collab, hard to say if we'll see it again like this. With that said, MN is a collab, but it felt more purpose built is I guess my point, to echo your point as well.

    Great review and critique as usual. The aesthetic design and branding aside the one big problem with Tudor chronos is that the snowflake hand was originally intended to be oversized for dive watch legibility. On a chronograph it is totally useless as it obscures the sub registers making the function useless.

      Yeah - I even consider a lumed bull (Like they did on the new planet ocean “omega was here”) but I think they could have done this:
      - make the rehaut steel, like on a rolex and just etch the text onto the steel in a thinner font. That way it would be there but far less noticable and just more subtle overall
      Or. Crazy idea. Just not do it. There is after all a giant bull on the case back… 😀😀

      I love the design of the Chrono so much that I'm seriously considering buying one. However the Red Moo thing is the one downer. In terms of investment, I'm not sure that it will maintain value as the Alinghi Red Moo partnership could come to an end and the text alienates many people who would otherwise love the watch. The watch totally rocks but would be way better without the Red Moo text
