  • Shahrukh Nadeem, an ardent book reader, wants to become the agent of change for people who tend to develop themselves into exemplary individuals through perennial lifelong learning. He runs “Book Buddy”, a platform through which he promotes reading and learning culture in the country and brands his mission as “Mission Read Pakistan”.
Book Buddy is one of the greatest passions of his life driven by the obsession to stimulate the intellectual muscles of the people of Pakistan. It is his effort to inculcate and promote a sense of rationality, progressive mindset, learning ability, and the quest to achieve a state of self-actualization through reading and learning. He is a strong advocate of the fact that life holds limitless potential and possibilities for anyone who is willing to go the extra mile.

The speaker is sure a learned person, but he seems to miss the point somehow. The affluent of this society equally shun reading or learning anything other than more and more acquisition of material wealth. As the speaker observed, the behaviour not rewarded is not likely to be repeated. This society hates reading and the reader as well. The reading, especially literature and poetry etc endows the reader with an awareness and sensitivity that renders the reader sort of unfit for the highly competitive, no holds barred struggle for survival and success. Then, there are many types of readers, including, interalia, the readers of hate literature, prejudices, jingoism and fallacies.Overall, a good seminar; enthusiastic and engaging!

"Reformation": "Let's reform the society." Sounds good but needs a padding. Before a person steps up to reform others, the person has an obligation to reform himself or herself first. Reforming oneself means to become self-aware. A man from Pakistan is buried under six feet. He is healthy. He has resources. He is not suffering from cancer. He doesn't need a chemotherapy. What he needs is a play of mind. Any person with a little awareness finds out that he is surrounded by jargon. A cricketer becomes a prime minister. Jargon starts. State of Medina. Millions of homes for the poor. Quarter of the population is under flood. Hundreds of girls were running around in their blood splattered shalwar because there was no cotton padding. Yes. Poverty. Question: Did these debased Muslims opt for this "Quagmire" in 1947? What went wrong? Answer? History. Yes, history. Not just history of this monstrosity called Pakistan. But the history of civilizations. History of England. History of the United States. Declaration of Independence. How such sentiments like "Pursuit of Happiness" became a universal sentiment? What made all the elites of Pakistan aka the degenerates seek out America as their final destination? Books? Two books would give a headless man of Pakistan an idea. 1. Among the Believers." 2. "Beyond the Belief." The same author V.S. Naipaul has written three India books. These five books must give an idea of the kind of quagmire the host talks about. Ones wishes that he talks in Urdu rather than engaging in vulgarity by mixing Urdu with English. Note: Yes. You need more than financial independence. You need to be rich. Books are expensive.

Man's ultimate purpose of life is to worship Allah SWT by abiding by the Divine guidelines revealed in the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet. Earthly life is merely a test, determining one's afterlife, either in Jannah or in Jahannam.
