How have I been listening to this my whole life and am now just realizing how serious the lyrics are? They’re actually telling a story about the state of music, even for the 80’s, this is timeless!
I'd say me agreeing with you a year later is continued validation of your point. An excellent tune all around!
CZcams killed Videostar?
Maybe you didn't realize it because they sing those lyrics in a really funny tone, if the melody was sad, you'd realize it sooner
This song was made in 79 not 80

"Radio's NOT dead! But it is ending THIS brodcast."
In all seriousness I actually remember hearing this on the radio (Oddly enough) growing up since my parents were big on going places during the weekends and we spent a good deal of time in the car. It just took me until I was in my teens to really understand what it was about. And of course was the first song that came to mind during that fight in Hazbin.
i knew it would be here
same, i heard this song years ago lol
Yeeeeyyyyy
Wtf
Many people do not realize this song is actually from 1979 -- it peaked at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 1979. So these lyrics, as prophetic as they were, was both retrospective AND prospective in the 1970s!
yess, i feel it marked end of 70s, end of that era and beginning of new one - 80s
Just like My Sharona, my dad always thought it came out in the 80s but it actually came out in ‘79.
They must have known videos were coming to kill the radio star.

Heard for the first time on GTA VC & loved it from then... ❤
Same! I'm sure a number of people came by it that way.
Me too
@Seetiyan and I'm actually one of them. The irony of it is that it plays on the radio as you drive a car. A niche that in real life radio still fills to this day. I mean, you wouldn't watch videos while driving, otherwise you'd probably crash.
Same for me.
EEEEH!!! A MI TAMBIÉN!!!
My Dad gave me my love for music, he used to randomly make mix CDs for the family when we went on visitation and I distinctly remember him putting this on for me❤miss u Dad, I hear you in every song that was ours❤RIP

I remember listening to this once when I was younger and it has stuck with me ever since
I always hear this song and think of man talking about an ex lover of his (Oh-wa Oh-wa voice), a radio star. He's reflecting on how he first fell for her, young and in love with her voice, upon meeting her kids he thinks of her again. He obviously still feels a lot for her, but he witnessed the murder of the main director of the radio station after "they took the credit for her second symphony" bc it obviously was an issue, she was being cancelled. He helped her cover up the murder by blaming someone else "VTR" and after that they broke off." because he was an accomplice to murder that's also why he sounds concerned when asking "what did you tell them" he schedules a rendezvous at the old studio where the murder took place, and they both start reminiscing over that time, but he can't stop thinking about how he watched the woman he idolized and loved kill a man. Even when he's thinking of how she called him her radio star back then, the murder still plays over that. Although video killed the radio star, the radio star got her chance to kill the video before it took off. She was the first one, and the last one.
Yours sound great and sounds more inline than mine. I’m honestly hearing it as a ghost story of sorts. The man still reminiscing on the past as he goes around the old studio. The radio star being killed by video, the children of the radio star started talking about her & her death to the man who was taken by all this because the kids speaking of details that they wouldn’t know about. The man goes to the old studio where the radio star was killed in, that was gonna turn into a video studio but the radio star kept haunting the studio. she appears to tell him about how the video industry killed her career and the heads of the studio ended up killing her back in ‘52.
I think its about the death of radio shows that were popular in the 1950s as television became something everyone could afford, and the "vtr" part is probably a typo to VCR, which makes more sense as recordable television probably played a big part in the death of radio shows.
You should write that as a musical with 80s music. It would be a MASTERPIECE!!!!
I AINT READING ALL THAT 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 …ALRIGHT MAYBE I DID
Damn the lore is insane
And now Internet killed the Videostar.
i remember this from just dance ;--------;
Same
I loves the video killed the radio star part of just dance 3 😭 I actually still have it for my wii U aha and the classic old wii
i used to say it was goofy and never played till i really listened
GTA Vice City is how I know this song. The game is set in the 1980’s, a time when music videos were in their infancy but starting to dominate the music scene in a very insidious manner that would facilitate the rise of MTV. Strangely enough, come to think about it, the first song on MTV was none other than The Buggles - Video Killed The Radio Star.
I like this song. First music video played on MTV btw.
i love this song. i know it from some just dance wii game and hazbin hotel immediately reminded me of this song
This song still sounds so futuristic to me and it came out in 1979!
I remember this song in just dance and I never knew the meaning of the song
These lyrics are sad honestly but this song is still such a bop
when i was a little kid my dad got me a radio for my birthday he made a cd to and on it were classics like this final count crazy train and many more. aah the memories

I listened to this before hazbin but I’m doing a cosplay karaoke with this as vox😭
BTW...there seems to be a bit of confusion. I just looked this up and referenced several live performances. It's "Put the blame on VCR"....not "VTR".

Great Song; I can't help thinking I heard the original lyrics back in the 1960's..

I was listening to this on shortwave radio, it was playing on a polish (?) station, who the night before was playing music from the 30's 40's, so this was a change but it ain't matter this slaps

Yes.
But am I going to keep listening either way?

I'm thinking if this song from near the end of the 70s era never happened, the 80s pop culture that we all know and love would never existed.
yes, this song was beginning of all of that😊

Small reminder to all my Hazbin Hotel fans:
Episode 2 of the show, the one with the song "Stayed Gone", is titled _Radio killed the VIdeo star_
I used to think this song was completely wrong, at least as far as MTV killing the radio star, but CZcams has definitely overtaken radio when it comes to how people listen to and watch music.
I’m here from Hazbin hotel and I’m just hoping these lyrics are true in that show :)
Good to be back on the air 😙

I think video don't must kill radio. I like both. Also internet of course. Because radio is good to listen , video to watch. Internet can be connect with a lot of elements such like TV or social media etc. We have a lot of technologies in different media like in marketing [ materials of POS , PR ( public relation ) , ads in press etc. ]. Music change our awarness. It is interesting fact. I like this song with words such like oh-a-oh and rhytms also. Words in this music are awesome. Like in program called Got Talent. I can create own empire Macmedia Corporation. It is joke with this media empire. I reminded over video and radio. They should be like a marriage. I mean that it can connect news with other means of media. It would be great idea or It is now todaystime. It is interesting philosophy about it. If someone likes this short article , I can write next amazing news about cool topics. I wish CZcams , Audioandlyrics and all viewers the best day , good fun , health and positive thinking. Bye.
P. S.
