I have just recently began reading the book of Matthew. I am a U.S. Army veteran. I have always struggled with faith. I came across this video, and it now has me interested in strengthening my faith. I served from 1989 to 1997. Thank you for this video. Hod bless.
Start at the front, read to the back, take it literal unless it is obviously figurative. Get a Strong's concordance and look at each word, it don't take that long as sometimes words may not mean what they seem. Don't ever give up! If it is boring then something is wrong. Just keep going if nothing else. Read first and last thing each day. Also look at names and their meanings. Trust me on that. They form a story ALWAYS. For your first learning, take Adam to Noah and it forms story of Gospel in a nutshell. Your first project I want you to try. Thank me later. 😊 God bless!
If you want to understand the Bible start with Roman's, Roman's is written by the Apostle he is our Apostle for today as Gentiles. He was appointed by Jesus in Acts 9. He was confirmed in Acts 15 and Galatians 2. By the other Apostles. Peter says in 2Peter 3 if you want to know how to be saved you have to go to Paul's letters. Jesus even says in Matthew 15:24 I am not sent but unto , the lost sheep of the house of isreal. Paul tells us we will be judged by his Gospel in Roman's 2:16. What is Paul's Gospel, it's the Gospel that the Ascended Lord revealed to him 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. When you believe that you are saved. PAUL tells us in Ephesians 1:13 When we hear the Gospel of our Salvation and we believe it we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise. The whole Bible is the word of God and is true, but the part that he wants us to read for doctrine, Reproof, correction, and instruction of righteousness is Paul's Letters. Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 2:15 to study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of Truth. The Gospel will not be found in any other book in the Bible other than Paul's letters. It was a mystery hidden since the beginning of time and only revealed to Paul. Read Roman's 15:25. The 4 Gospels tell us who Christ is, what he was here for, what he did. The book of Acts is a transition from the law to Grace. Then from Roman's to Hebrews tells us why Christ did what He did and how by what he did he now offers a free gift of Salvation by Faith+Nothing. ✝️✝️✝️🙏🙏🙏
That’s real good man. I respect you a lot. I recommend the book of John and the book of James. John is also 1 of the 4 gospels like Matthew that tell the story of Jesus. God bless ❤

Chadd, your choices were excellent! Washington is one of my hero’s. My 5th great grandfather was a sergeant in the 4th, 8th, and 12th Regiments of the Virginia Continental Line in the Revolution. He took several direct orders from General Washington and was shown fit for duty all 6 months of Valley Forge where he assisted Von Steuben train the Continentals. He received land warrant 1022 for 200 acres in the New Wilderness (Kentucky) for his 3 years service. When Washington resigned as General of the Army he met with his command staff at a tavern to tell them. After giving his speech and taking his leave it is said that all of his battle hardened command staff wept! Enough said.

Love your channel. I agree with your take on the Bible. Since I started studying the Word, reading almost daily I have become a better husband, better father and an all around better person. I guess this depends on who you ask but I like to think that my close friends and family especially my wife and child would agree. Keep doing what you’re doing and thanks again for the wholesome, straightforward content.

Really enjoyed this video. My soul enjoys the fitness and guns but seeing the familiar Spirit of Christ in a Brother reminds me of our future in the Kingdom. I feel like I got sharpened and motivated today just by seeing your everyday faith. Will enjoy reading these.
As an atheist it's always interesting to see individuals that read spiritual literature. It's kind of cool to see a different perspective on what makes people unique.
The bible is actually a great read for even non believers. The stories are gold. Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, some others too. Some colleges teach them in literture based solely on their story and wording alone. Worth a try.
Its amazing such profoundly introspective people still buy into alot of the ridiculous religious texts hook line and sinker. Makes me wonder sometimes. If their geographical location of birth and raising was different would the be a believer in that culture's predominant religion? That's usually how it works. A favorite quote I heard was something to the effect of "Atheists and Christians are nearly identical, Atheists just believe in one less god". Christians in this quote could be replaced with many religions in my opinion. Im just glad Chadd is a cool dude and I reckon we'd probably have alot of common beliefs but man I'd love to bend his ear on what motivates him to be a Christian. Not that I want to change his mind but rather Im curious and find value in the discussion. Further more he seems like someone who has actually explored himself philosophically which in my experience generally means he has specific reasons for holding any beliefs or world views he has. Most people just are what they are because that's all they know. I don't think Chadd is like that from the sounds of it which makes him about as rare hens teeth these days
I love the King James Bible. And I love everything that CS Lewis wrote. He is my favorite writer. Thank you for all you do to help us in every area of our lives.
lol why? its the most recent and not even accurate? how do you have gods word and its in 46 different books all from the same best friend perspective. You know why theres so many? Because of all the attempts to fix the crude language in it to hide the real meaning.
Love this book list. The Lord of the Rings trilogy was the perfect nighttime read for me during a previous season of life. True heroism, friendship, sacrifice, unlikely bravery, and a deeply acute appreciation of things beautiful and noble. Maybe worth a read if one ever gets a hankering for fiction.
I’ve really enjoyed reading on Stonewall Jackson . You get a sense of what belief in faith can physically accomplish. A blend of devout faith and history in the books I’ve read but they are lengthy. I don’t know if you scroll through these comments but if you haven’t read a Stonewall book I recommend it on both fronts.
I needed to see this today. I feel a little off track. I have not been reading as much or reading the wrong books. Time to get back to right reading, right living and right running. Shutting this down and going to it now.
Reading “A Grief Observed” by Lewis now. Super short, diary style read. Will help prepare one for the inevitable suffering that comes with living a long life
Thanks for the video. Great list of books. I would add Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, Once an Eagle by Anton Myrer, The Winds of War by Wouk and War and Remembrance by Wouk.
Zechariah 5 is sure screwed up in KJV. But it is still best in English. I love Helenika and Hebrew. Can read both. Speak some Hebrew too. TR & LXX and Masoretic I love to read.

My Top 5 Books in no particular order: 1, The Art of War by Sun Tzu 2, Declaration of Independence, US Constitution and Bill of Rights 3, Dante's Inferno by Dante 4, The Holy Bible and all Books not included in the KJ version! 5, Common Sense by Thomas Payne
At 58 I've met a lot of Christians, just never a good one , I'm not a religious man but this guy seems honest and genuine, not out to brag or make a name for himself, I hope he doesn't change for today's climate, I say what I feel when I feel it and it can cost you friends, but better friendless than phony
My father was a Rigger in the 82nd during the 60's, He gave me The Band of Brothers by Steven Ambrose. Enjoyed it so much I have read it twice. My favorite character in the book was Dick Winters, a great leader and was essentially the nucleus of the 506th during Normandy, Operation Market Garden, The Ardennses/Belgium, and The Battle of the Bulge plus the occupation of Berlin and Germany. The character development of these American warriors and the historical aspect makes it a great read. If you have seen the movie series it is pale in comparison to the book even though it was a great series within itself. A man such as yourself will appreciate this read especially if you like history and the "brotherhood", my father appreciated it. Just an FYI the "book" is something I have been reading it some from time to time and am now very interested in books by CS Lewis. Thanks!

@@ryan2009ization I’m not sure about the entire “top 5” but my opinion would be that the books of Job and Proverbs is on the list. I would also mention that the book of Ruth can teach a great lesson to some folks in these modern days. A lesson in faithfulness and of loyalty and how it pays off in the end.
Much respect for Chad. The book list is spot on. I read about 80 books a year and his top 3 books are exactly the top 3 that I would select, (outside of The Holy Bible). I enjoy Chads values and content. This is what the younger generations need.
Every single day it gives me something new . And that's why they call it the living word... AMEN! The book I keep coming back to is Jeremiah. I feel it kicks me in the chops and holds my head above the flood. I just love you brother! We have walked such different paths but they ALL still lead to the Word of the Lord.
Thanks for going over your top 5, Chadd. It has been a joy watching your videos and learning about your mindset. I don't know if I have a top 5, but here are some books that have influenced me in one way or another: The Bible (God's Word), Various writings from Charles Spurgeon, John Frame's A History of Western Philosophy and Theology, Writings by Herman Bavinck (Reformed Dogmatics), Joseph Boot's The Mission of God.
Yes Joe Boot! Loved his latest book and his Ezra Institute Podcast "Run the enemies of God to the River". It deals with a lot of liberal objections to his take on things.
“Readers are leaders” is a very true statement. No matter the type of book you like to read, there is some sort of cognitive or personality benefit to it. I love autobiographical works, there’s nothing better than getting ideas, wisdom, or insight into one’s life from the horses mouth.
Thanks man It's been interesting hearing about books to check out. I'm impressed you have the Bible, especially the King James Bible which has no copyright law, and is not of Rome indoctrination, but is of the texus receptus manuscripts. -We become sons and daughters of the Lord Jesus when we believe on him, and are saved. If we choose to follow after him that's Discipleship
TR is the best! I love to sit back and read in Greek when I can. Nothing as precise as Greek language. Hebrew is fun too, but Greek is so precise in meanings.
Thank you for your discipleship Chadd! I have all of these books and several Bibles. MacArthur Men's Study Bible, Charles Spurgeon Study Bible from Alistair Begg, Ray Comforts Evidence Bible, and a Charles Stanley Men's Study Bible. I have too many books, but they're underscored, highlighted, and make great reference material for revisiting.
I was a caretaker for an old woman about 10 years ago. Her brother studied with Spurgeon I was a new Christian I didn't know who he was. She's gone now but my journey stayed with Scripture because of her
My top book is The Book. The Bible. Edit: Love that you have C.S. Lewis on the list. Screwtape is gnarly. I also love that you picked Matthew, it’s such an awesome Gospel! Thanks for the historical suggestion too, I love Washington, and as you said, need to brush up a bit.
Reading is an activity that is disappearing due to many factors. It is important that a gentleman of your accomplishment and influence encourage your followers to read-and to read things of the highest quality. THANK YOU!
Something to consider : Biblical Christianity isn’t an organized religion. It isn’t even actually a religion. The root of the word means to tie back. All religions teach what we must do to tie ourselves back to God [or gods] Christianity teaches there is nothing we can do, that HE took on that burden for us, if only we will accept it. This is sometng most people and most churches don’t seem to grasp.
I’m glad to have found this channel recently, I have enjoyed your videos. Two things to go along with what you said: it’s funny to me that there are so many people complaining about “crazy liberals” changing the meanings of words, but then they will go read a version of the Bible with modernized language. The King James Version is not modernized and we can’t apply modernized definitions to the words it contains, therefore the language used is often stronger or more meaningful. And then on the topic of Washington, and the Continental Army; the army had chaplains, the majority of which were Baptist, Washington is said to have been baptized by John Gano a baptist chaplain during the revolutionary war. George Washington is said to have given the sword given to him by Lafayette to John Gano.
The KJV is a translation of the original texts as well, from that time, with that language. While I’ll agree that some versions of the Bible have completely changed the text, most current versions like the NKJV, NASB and ESV are using the same texts (and more recently discovered texts). If those “modernized” versions of the Bible are bringing a person to Christ and getting them reading the Word, it’s not a bad thing, wouldn’t you agree? I read with a KJV study Bible and NKJV, ESV, if I stumble on translation I have those two translations to help.
@@Alvin_C_York I did not say other versions are bad, although I know some of them are. I believe, as would be the case with any book, if people were to translate it from one language to another and not always come to the same words or words that mean the same thing, then something might be amiss. Languages haven’t changed that much that someone translating a book should be so altered that whole verses would be missing(in some versions whole passages are missing). What has changed is how we today use words compared to even 20 years ago, and all those word carry less meaning than they used to, not greater meaning. To me, reading any other version would be like reading an abridged version of an autobiography. Like it’s not the same.
The KJV is very modernized as it was written thousands of years after the original manuscripts. Modern is a relative term and if you want to be technical, the KJV is very modernized in the scheme of things. However, it is hard to read given the changes in meanings of many words since it was written and other more contemporary translations are much more suitable for learning in our current time.
@@LTVoyager so the context from the video, is that he likes the way the King James Version is written and that it doesn’t use modernized language. So you can argue the relative meaning of modern, but you’d be arguing with yourself. I believe that if you want/need help understanding the King James Bible, get a Strongs Concordance and an older dictionary; they both help a lot.
Thank you for the book recommendations. Screwtape letters was great, 1/2 through mere Christianity lookin like it’s going to change me and my understanding in a good way. Thanks for your service too God bless.
"Mere Christianity" is a great read! As I recall, the content of that book was originally a series of BBC radio broadcasts during the second world war. Also, one of my favorites by Lewis is "The Weight of Glory." Its a bit heavy on the philosophy side, but worth the time. Finally, for those that don't know, Lewis was an infantry officer in WW1, at the tender age of just 19 years old!
Another that is worth a look is "Till We have Faces" where Lewis rewrites a greek myth that takes place within a pagan worldview. He makes a very powerful christian point but it's much more layered and subtle compared to Narnia. There's a level of implied horror in the book too which makes it darker than his other work, which some audiences might appreciate.
I love the King James Bible also. You may get a copy of “The Translators Revived” by, Alexander McClure to appreciate it even more. Thanks for your powerful witness, and God bless.
BRAVO Good Sir!!! 😀👏 I also have reincorporated reading books back into my life after about a 20 or so year hiatus. Lol. Now I read a little in several different books each day. Thank you for your service and keep on putting up the good fight! 🇺🇲🙏🙏🙏🇺🇲💯 Much love from Southern Louisiana. 👍
My own suggestions : Daniel Boorstin - The Discoverers, the 7 Story Mountain - Thomas Merton, Meditations - Marcus Aurelius, Man’s search for Ultimate Meaning - Viktor Frankl and for some mind expanding main course, try The Portable Atheist - Christopher Hitchens
Great books brother, seeing those, may I recommend 2 books to you, the first, by Timothy Keller The Reason for God - similar to Mere Christianity and well worth the read. The second, The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer. Thanks for being a man that is a witness for our Lord, far too few men these last 120 years stand up for Jesus, and the cost has been generations of our children being lost.
I've never read any of c.s. lewis stuff ,but I will see if I can find some especially the two you recommend, the Bible I read and study daily, Im a firm believer in the Almighty God, Jesus Christ is the king of kings and our savior, I enjoy reading the scriptures and doing the things to change my walk thru this world and here after to be more Christ like , and no doubt General Washington was the greatest forefather we e had to fight and establish the freedom we have today, and the men that fought along side of Washington, and I imagine that alot of people would think that people of that era were simple minded farmers, but actually they were hard , tough, and saw into the future to be able to discern and fight for many generations to come to be free and to make it a country to be proud of awesome stuff.
Listening to podcasts is my main go to. That's how I stumbled across you. I do read when I have time and that's usually before bed or when assembling something😄

I pray you will read. If you do dig into it you will find the rapture is a religious lie that will deceive you. This theory began in 1830 with a girl named Margaret McDonald.
diffently not true, if you think gods people that are saved NOW are going through his wrath you are sadly mistaken, way too many verses pointing to the rapture, but hey if you want to stick around when all hell breaks out, I’m taking flight 777 on outta here and then I’m coming back on a white horse with King Jesus and all his angels ....

I'm generally not a fan of the KJV, preferring the NKJV as my daily reader. But your comment about the KJV forcing you to slow down, so that you don't find yourself skimming, got my attention. Even w/ the NKJV, I sometimes find my self going into skim mode - even with my practice of Whisper Reading, so I actually hear the words, in addition to reading the words. I just may have to go back to KJV. I would add a 6th book to your list, however. The daily devotional, My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers. After the Bible, I believe it is the biggest selling Christian book in history. I started reading it daily when I got serious about my Faith, at age 22. I am now just shy of 53, it is still my go to Daily Devotional, and it still challenges me every. single. time. I read it. I have wept tears at the kitchen table over the challenges it lays forth, in overcoming the Flesh, in order to build strong Christian Character.
One I highly recommend, and especially for someone who has been through what you have is; The Bruised Reed, by Richard Sibbes. On one of his voyages to the Americas he converted the entire crew to Christianity. It was said that his love and enthusiasm for Christ was contagious.

In 2002 I lived with Doug and Merrie Gresham in Leighlinbridge, Ireland. Doug is C.S. Lewis’ stepson. He grew up with “Jack” (as he called C.S.). It was an awesome experience becoming great friends with Doug and Merrie and learning so much about C.S. Lewis. The two books you mentioned by him are also two of my favs. ALL of C.S. Lewis’ books are wonder-full reading.
That truly must have been fascinating!
I envy you! I hope you write about that time.
Still think you should do a backyard Bible study well and/or short devotion . Each person is unique and wonderfully made as is their perspectives

That's really awesome of you to have chose spiritual books to present like you did. As a Christian, I appreciate your boldness.
What makes it bold? As an Atheist I could care less.
You're confusing boldness with indoctrination.

Currently, reading through the Psalms in my class, and my students appear to be gaining much from the incredible phrasing that God gave these writers. Chadd, you've done so much, and continue to serve your brothers and sisters, thank you!
That is not spiritual literature. They are well respected Christian apologetics texts.
The bible is actually a great read for even non believers. The stories are gold. Ruth, 1 & 2 Samuel, some others too. Some colleges teach them in literture based solely on their story and wording alone. Worth a try.
True truths are simple
Atheism is ignorant. Be honest and call yourself an agnostic if you want a decent label
Just shared this vid w my 8yo son. He brightened when he heard both of you are reading CS Lewis. Pray unceasingly, Patriots!!
Thank you Sir for your service to our country and thank you for taking a stand for Christ and the KJV. Much Respect.
Great list. Not only was Lewis friends with Tolkien, but he was instrumental in Tolkien becoming a believer. Pilgrim's Progress will change your life.
Other way around. Tolkien helped bring CD Lewis out of his atheism. Tolkien was a believer his entire life.

Thanks!

Which are the 5 best books of the Bible?
@@ryan2009ization I’m not sure about the entire “top 5” but my opinion would be that the books of Job and Proverbs is on the list. I would also mention that the book of Ruth can teach a great lesson to some folks in these modern days. A lesson in faithfulness and of loyalty and how it pays off in the end.
Much respect for Chad. The book list is spot on. I read about 80 books a year and his top 3 books are exactly the top 3 that I would select, (outside of The Holy Bible).
I enjoy Chads values and content. This is what the younger generations need.

Jon, Ruth, Isaiah, Daniel & 1 & 2 Samuel for me. Esp Job.
Thank You Chad, you're a sincere asset to us. We Love Ya ...
Her brother studied with Spurgeon
I was a new Christian
I didn't know who he was.
Yawn.....

I’m not wholly set on any organized religion, but I do appreciate and respect those who are. And like all of your videos, I love ‘em all.
Something to consider : Biblical Christianity isn’t an organized religion. It isn’t even actually a religion.
The root of the word means to tie back. All religions teach what we must do to tie ourselves back to God [or gods]
Christianity teaches there is nothing we can do, that HE took on that burden for us, if only we will accept it. This is sometng most people and most churches don’t seem to grasp.
@@StatmanRN I appreciate the explanation. I wish I knew more so that I too would be able to have an intelligent conversation like this one. Thank you.
Thanks man for your time to share this info im going to check them out ... have a blessed one
Same here.
Awsome Brother. I will look for those. Thank you! God bless.

LOVE it! Thank you. My list is somewhat different but the day both starts and ends in the Scriptures. Thank you, sir!

You'll move past Hitchens in time. Remember this comment when you do.
Thank you for all that you do. Big Alohas from York, South Carolina.

There’s a lot of problems with the new king James version. It’s not accurate with the majority of the received Greek and Hebrew text.
Thanks for the recommendation brother.

I won't go into details but it spans Columbus, the Pilgrims, Puritans, and the Revolutionary War.
