@@tommytimp That's why I don't understand why more teams don't send back a return man on 55+ yard FGs, especially in college. It's damn hard to get a ball up high enough for a college kicker, so I think there are more returns to be had.
@@andrejg4136 IDK if NCAA rules are different, but I'm assuming the reason is because there would almost never be a reason to take that risk on a 55+ yard FG unless it was the end of the half. You return anything less than to roughly mid field and you now have worse field position than if you didn't return it.
@@tommytimp No, but it's kinda surprising they didn't leave one or two speedier players in given Auburn seemingly lined up in Nascar package for the kick. In other words, Auburn didn't go so DT heavy. But on a return Auburn's personnel with extra speed has plenty of power to kick out enough blocks
One of the most significant losses in college football history. Bama was undefeated and ranked #1 for the entire regular season and was looking to three-peat...and boom! All of that was undone by that final second of regulation by their bitterest of rivals. 3:35 It was at this moment Saban knew, he fucked up.
Your toxic given I'm a huge bama fan and auburn is In the state of alabama idc how big of a rivalry there is. its stupid to say that you would route for a different state to win against your own. I would route for auburn if there not playing Alabama because it makes our state teams look good And you can sit there and say "aww someone had there feelings hurt cause there team lost" but truthfully that was an amazing play I'm not gonna be toxic about it
I just stumbled on this today. It's fun to watch and listen again to the broadcasters, two of the best in the business, talking about the play. They were stressing that nobody thought of a run back possibility, but I honestly did. When 'Bama decided to go for the field goal I said to my wife, who just happened to be in the room, "Auburn can win this on a run back." And it happened. One of those truly great moments to relive. Thanks for featuring it.
Not an Auburn fan. But man this gives me chills still all these years later. Just one of the most incredible plays ever and the stadium going apeshit just adds to the insane intensity of this play.
I remember watching the last half of the 4th quarter live with my mom. We both loved football, but had forgot the iron bowl was going on because we followed the nfl closer than collegiate football. I remember so distinctly the shock and emotion that this brought us experiencing this live together. My mom passed away last year and seeing this game, and the emotion it brought and still brings, it fills my heart with a joy.
Sorry about your loss. Glad you were able to share that memory with her, that was a hell of a finish to that game. Believe I watched it with my mom as well :)
I am a Alabama fan to the heart i remember watching this game crying because we lost lol then a hour later my husband had a massive heart attack and passed my favorite game of year turned into my worse memory now every time i watch this game im happy and sad rest in heaven my love its still roll tideeeee he was a bama fan
I absolutely love it. I am a huge die hard LSU fan. I always pull for Auburn when they are not playing LSU. I jumped up from my sofa and screamed RUN RUN RUN. It only takes one second to beat you Nick Saban. GEAUX WAR EAGLES.
Funny story. I was watching this and I was alone. Still learning the rules of football, my grandfather had the game on but left the room for about 30 seconds. I watched the play, and he came back. I just said "Auburn scored the winning touchdown", thinking this happened in almost every game of football. He said "What?" about forty times. He then watched the replay and the gape of his mouth had to be at least three feet open. Edit: He sadly passed away a couple months after I wrote this comment. RIP Giddo 1928-2017
With pro teams, you're just cheering for some dudes who get paid millions of dollars to play for your city and don't have any particular loyalty to it. With college, you're cheering for players that specifically chose to go to your school. And you're cheering for them to represent your school. Then the fans get crazier when you add in marching bands, fight songs, game day traditions, etc. Pro atmosphere just can't compare. Real bands beat canned music over loudspeaker every time.
5:45 man, that moment when the entire Auburn sideline realizes that Davis is gonna go all the way and they all go nuts... what a feeling. Still get chills, every time.

droidean Stakes weren't nearly as high? Dude, the winner would've gone on to the SEC and BCS title games. The winner of the Iron Bowl for the past 4 years has gone to the NC game. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.
***** Actually, the only thing the winner of this game was entitled to was a bid to the SEC conference championship game, nothing more. Still has to play a good Missouri team for the automatic bid to a BCS bowl game. The previous winners of Iron Bowls to Natty games is irrelevant, logically speaking. Nice try, though.
The 06 National Championship/Rose Bowl was more entertaining than this game and had much higher stakes, and that is just a game within the last 10 years; let alone all-time.
droidean Missouri was no challenge, so the SEC was a guaranteed title. The 06 NC doesn't even compare to what the Iron bowl has produced in the past few years. The Iron bowl is never irrelevant, it's the greatest rivalry in college football and one of the best in all of sports.

Im from Alabama and this was the first football game I ever saw in my life. It made me realize why so many people love this sport. This moment was magical .
My mom passed away recently from a tragic accidental opioid overdose. She raised me by herself and worked her butt off to give me a good childhood. We were always very close. We would watch games together, not just as mother and son, but as literal best friends. We couldn't believe what we were witnessing live on tv this special night. This game gave my mother and I a spectacular show, such a great memory and one I'll never ever forget. RIP Ma Dukes.
I’m today years old reeling from the most painful 2021 loss. Normally the winner of the food drive wins the iron bowl. Yesterday it was not the case. Only three times in 30 years has this outcome differed.
And then FSU led by Heisman winner Jameis Winston went on to lead a comeback against them 21-3 in one of the greatest and most underrated National Title games ever, capped off by a game winning TD from Jameis with 13 seconds remaining. Simply amazing. And now exactly a decade later, the Seminoles are in the Top 4 again and looking like they're going to make the playoffs. #GoNoles
the crowd had like 5 levels, 3:16 the trepidation and small cheer that they missed the fg, 3:19 the realization and growing excitement that he has a decent return going, 3:23 the realization that he stayed in bounds, 3:25 the realization that this is actually happening, 3:30 the release of realizing that it actually just happened. incredible.
I think anyone that grew up loving football or playing can agree this moment is every kids dream. Playing your biggest rival at home, 1 second on the clock, a BCS trip on the line and an end to end kicksix to win the game. Chills every time.
I wonder what the odds were in that situation. 28-28, one second left, one play to go, Alabama kicking a field goal, and Auburn wins the game. 100 to 1 easy.
It's insane how Auburn was the talk of America from Nov 16 (The prayer at Jordan Hare) to Nov 30th (this) and through the end of the season. I'm not even a fan but I feel so lucky to have seen both of those plays live on TV

Lol
@@tommytimp No, but it's kinda surprising they didn't leave one or two speedier players in given Auburn seemingly lined up in Nascar package for the kick.
In other words, Auburn didn't go so DT heavy. But on a return Auburn's personnel with extra speed has plenty of power to kick out enough blocks
Watching Bama lose this game is one of the greatest college football moments EVER!!!
Artemis because they never lose ? right 😂
One of the most significant losses in college football history. Bama was undefeated and ranked #1 for the entire regular season and was looking to three-peat...and boom! All of that was undone by that final second of regulation by their bitterest of rivals. 3:35 It was at this moment Saban knew, he fucked up.
No, Johnny “Failure” Football tearing up bama for 4 quarters was best
Your toxic given I'm a huge bama fan and auburn is In the state of alabama idc how big of a rivalry there is. its stupid to say that you would route for a different state to win against your own. I would route for auburn if there not playing Alabama because it makes our state teams look good
And you can sit there and say "aww someone had there feelings hurt cause there team lost" but truthfully that was an amazing play I'm not gonna be toxic about it
Mr Drip you’re commenting on a 10 month old comment with shit english, why?

That is a crazy statement this game both teams had a chance for the playoffs.
I find myself coming back to this video several times a year. I love when Bama loses, but this loss is particularly glorious.

? Guy and every Auburn fan didn’t funny huh?
Sorry that your mom passed away
Dang dude that’s hard to take but I know you can do it.
I’m mad about the penn state game right now
Sorry about your loss. Glad you were able to share that memory with her, that was a hell of a finish to that game. Believe I watched it with my mom as well :)

That’s funny as hell lol. This was one of the greatest plays in college football history in my opinion
That's a good story!
That's hilarious Hugh. Are you still watching the sport?
Who he root for ?
That is why you only leave during commercial breaks.
How come college sports crowds are more passionate than professional sports crowds?
Well this was an instate rivalry and whoever won was going to the BCS National Championship
Pro games too expensive to go to for young college kids
it's cause they are tied to the schools live and breath passion for 4-8 years
+PabloCruise91 A professional sports team only represents a city. A college team represents an entire state!
I come back twice a year to this video and get chills everytime. Top 5 greatest sports moments in my lifetime for sure
This never gets old. I remember it like yesterday

This has to be one of the greatest moments in sports history.
5:17 is what makes it indelible to me. Gary Danielson put it best " I thought a blocked FG could lead to this, but who wouldve dreamed that could happen on a short FG." Ive seen this in the pros but not in college. To see that happen was unreal
I know this is a bit much, but I think this is the greatest ending to arguably the greatest football game ever played.
definitely too much. not even close to the best game ever. the stakes weren't nearly high enough. a shot at a chance to go to a bowl game? meh...
droidean Stakes weren't nearly as high?
57 yard fg? Saben think he had an NFL kicker?
