It is completely useless. When I bouncing the DB I can easily enable ARCH mode and take backups. In a scenario where the DB is not running in ARCH mode & and the DB cannot be down for any reason, this case taking rman backup is interesting.

If you cannot bounce the DB because it cannot be down for logistical reasons then you should not have a DB in NONARCHIVELOG. In case of distater/disk failure etc you'll lose data smartass.
