Totally awesome, I wonder why they didn't get Jayne Middlemiss and Ed Hall back though, I mean I love Philippa Forrester and Andy Collins but it does seem strange to not go with the successfully tried and tested pairing. I didnt notice as a kid but watching it back I think it was clever to put the woman as host and the man as the 'pit reporter' in contrast to Robot Wars, it was a nice dynamic and helped it feel like a different show
tufty1990 There's almost a small sense of irony in that, considering Philippa and Jayne essentially replaced each other. Although, in retrospect, I think the more laid-back nature of Techno Games suited Jayne much more.
hold up. is stanoscloir actually diotoir? I mean, I know it's obviously the same team, but the chassis (and wheels) looks like one of the Robot Wars LoanerBots, more specifically, Rigby
Why bother putting even the slightest bit of effort into creating a piece of art when it's just gonna get destroyed by the most low-effort design possible. It's like a sport that punishes you for effort, and you see it so much here. Why bother working on a cool boat design when someone is just gonna put a rubber duck on a generic chasis and kick your butt? Why make a cool bug walker when it's just gonna lose to a box with legs? Why pour your heart and soul into this amazing looking skeleton rope climber when... okay, that one was an exception, but my point still stands.
Wolf is the same team which participated in the fifth series of Robot Wars with Wolverine where it got flipped out of the arena by Wheely Big Cheese in its first round.
I'm SO glad to see that Techno Games 2002 is now being posted but I was shocked by the number of mistakes Phillipa made. She said that Skeletron was twice a gold medalist in the natural rope climb. Skeletron only won gold in the 2001 games as their opponent in the 2000 final was an artificial climber. She also said that the reigning NESTA prize winner was Scuttle. Cheeky Boy 1 was the 2001 prize winner and we can clearly see that's not Scuttle!!!!!! Don't think I don't like Phillipa. She did a great job hosting this show and she was great on Robot Wars too. But she really should've brushed up on her facts!!!!!
I was going to say, I was sure Skeletron lost the first series final, but most considered it to be unfair considering their opponent was effectively a professional climbing bot (I’m a little fuzzy on all the details). Maybe with that controversy it was decided they would disqualify the other bot to give Skeletron the title. 🤷♂️
Paul Dickenson would be a great commentator on the show. He would say, first up in the first round is Graham Bone from Durham and he's playing a race v somebody in the gauntlet.
