  • Floorboards turn cheap inflatables into very useful small boats. Here is how to make a cheap folding floorboard to make your portable boat even more handy. This idea will also work with inflatable kayaks or pack boats. I have used this floor board in several different intex kayaks and inflatable boats.

    Thanks for taking time. I have a 10ft inflatable with a 15hp. It's fantastic for Key Biscayne, Fl.
    It has an inflatable floor which inflates to 10psi, my last 3, one had wood, the other 2 had aluminum.
    I love the comfort of the inflatable floor, but its not as sturdy as the others, so today I set a goal to make a wooden floor. Went to home depot, on the cart I had the sheet of plywood, and the paint and I thought, let me look to see if I find a better solution, and I believe I did, a large sheet of PVC. Easy to cut to size, and totally waterproof, thought I would share. It's always trailered so no need to have separate pieces. Thanks again.

      Laura, I think PVC can be an excellent choice. I envy you your trips on the bay, I moved to Broward a few years ago after having lived near or on the bay all my life.

      I agree with you 100%. I'm not sure why didn't do that. I have a bunch of other inflatable boat videos on my channel though you might be interested in.

    Hi rob! Your video is one of the few that got me inspired to build my own Intex! I posted a short a few days ago showing my Pwm controller and remote steering I built using arduino and linear actuators. Hope you’re doing well!

    Love that. Have you used it on the water yet? I want to do this but not sure which is more sturdy. I have concerns where the hinge is, that it might not be strong or sturdy and just dip. The Hudson River by me get Pretty rough so I want to add a little rigidity to the floor of the boat. I would love to hear how your floor worked out

    • @RobbsHomemadeLife
      @RobbsHomemadeLife  Před 6 lety

      It was surprisingly stiff when unfolded with the seam facing up. - I only used it a couple of times, I would make it the same way if I made another.

    Do you lose the rigidity when making it foldable? I like the idea (because I don't have a trailer) but I also want to keep the boat as rigid as possible.

    • @RobbsHomemadeLife

      I think I used a half inch ply so that is 12.7 mm according to Google.

    • @RobbsHomemadeLife
      @RobbsHomemadeLife  Před 7 lety +1

      hey Chuck, I made the hinges from plastic I cut from an old plastic storage bin and bent it to make a crease in the middle and used stainless screws to attach to the ply.

      @Panama Jack hello Jack,
      I only used it a couple of times and added a large beach towel as a cushion to prevent any screw heads from damaging the floor. the floor actually worked out better than I imagined.

      Yes, it can take my weight but it is hard to balance unless in calm water. I no longer have it though.

    Rob do you the measurements that you use for the seahawk 3 to offer anyone that asks. Also want to now what u used for the hidges and screws that wont damage the rubber with the floor sitting on top of the rubber. Also can u use it with just the board to sit on with a cushion

    • @RobbsHomemadeLife
      @RobbsHomemadeLife  Před 5 lety +1

      hello Renate,
      The screws only went part way into the wood, not al the way to the other side. Also for protection of the bottom, I simply lay a large beach towel on the bottom and placed the floorboard over it. I added a long chair cushion on top of the floorboard to sit on top of it.

    • @renatedoyon4869
      @renatedoyon4869 Před 5 lety

      Well I'm a women and would like to built a floor but truly dont know how so I dont know what u mean when u say the screws only went part way dont. Could u possible show me a video on how it's done. The hidges where made from a old storage tube right

    Hi great video's! where are you from? I live in Michigan around Detroit.

  • @evan2290
    @evan2290 Před rokem

    Why didn't you show how to do the hinges? That's the most confusing part! How are the hinges help together? are they one piece? would the plastic not wear and break from bending eventually? I really want to do this, but there isn't a single good how to video out there.
    Why did you make 4 sections instead of 3? It looks like maybe to that top small section can fold inward to meet the bigger fold and not add an extra layer of thickness....but then why have the hinged section directly in front of it (the 3rd section). Why not just have the two bigger sections and then the small one up top that folds back in? What is the point of the hinge on the third section?
    Did you cut out a little extra from the middle section after making the 3 cuts (it looks like it at the 49 second mark, but you didn't say anything! There are tons of these mod vids, but NOBODY does a good job of showing someone who may not be super skilled in diy projects how to do it. I swear it's like people want you to see that they can do it, but not be able to do it as well as them. Beyond frustrating.

    • @RobbsHomemadeLife
      @RobbsHomemadeLife  Před rokem

      I thought it was pretty simple. I cut a strip of plastic from the storage bin and I attached it with screws over the plywood that was cut. It's a hinge.
