Never really noticed before, but the song has a melancholy to it, as if outlining the change from being a baby to becoming a kid, and then growing up. You go from not giving much of a mind to anything, then become so gosh darned curious about everything, your mind blooming into something wonderful and consistently mystified like a certain curious primate - but then you get older still, and the feelings change.
You still crave that spark of adventure and the excitement of finding new things, but it inevitably gets washed away with the tedium of age and experience. You want to cling to that, but it still goes away.
But as a dying chimp once told his caretaker in yellow, if anything in this world continues to matter it's the one thing that will persist into time immemorial. You may lose that curiosity and innocence, the world may lose its glimmer of newness, but the most important thing remains: love.
Or something. It's a genius song, I'm really glad Jack Johnson had the go-ahead to basically do anything with it as long as he included the word 'curious' in it. It's a very emotional and iconic piece as a result. Nostalgic, too.
