I worked 3 minutes from the property he burried the victims on and a few days prior to hearing about their missing person report, me and some co workers realized deep on the field there was a large fire going for days on end. An absolute idiot was walking her dog on his property (trespassing, of course) and the animal fell into the pond-to-be. Of course the genius went in right after, trying to get Poochie out. Both of them were stuck in the hole until the next day. This happened in the late '90s when barely anybody owned a cell phone, not to mention reception out in the middle of nowhere. My neighbor and his wife being seniors didn't hear her scream. The hole was barely 6ft deep yet the woman in her 40's couldn't get her ass out of there. Actually, she wasn't even able to lift her dog out to look for help, she claimed. So, yeah. Do not underestimate holes. I'm 6'3 and I doubt I could get out a 12ft hole easily, depending on width. PS: I'm not really familiar with imperial measurements so these are rough estimates.
