Which is better polychromos or deli oil color,or it's almost same? Cause polychromos is not friendly in stundent wallet.

I asked for these for Christmas because I love my 12 set and the open stock ones I have so much. They're my first "oil based" pencil and I really enjoy them. Beautiful colors, they work well in coloring books or in art pieces, they blend beautifully, they're just great. I could just buy them myself but I didn't know what else to ask for for Christmas so I just settled on this set.

I have the 120 set also. I experience them as having a velvet like feel as they go down on the paper. I have a fairly large number of sets, but these are my favorites. The colors are very rich and vibrant. The only criticism that I have is there are not enough pale colors. However, every set lacks something. When I need a very light delicate tint I will usually grab one Derwent or one of my prismacolors. Nice review. Thanks.

Which Derwent if I may ask? I have the Chromaflow one, and while there are some unique colors, I wouldn't say that it is rich in pale colors. I have heard that the Artist set is less vibrant, but this is also not quite what I imagine for paler colors.
I think I have the artist set, really not impressed by those. Is the Chromaflow softer and more pigmented?

Prismacolor is softer and you can blend them effortlessly. Polychromos are more firm and you need to slowly blend them. One wax-based and one oil-based, I think you need both 😂

To anyone who gets these but doesn't know much about them....These are oil based pencils, which means you have to work in light layers. I'm very heavy handed and tend to push down hard when coloring, so I had to train myself not to do that when using these pencils. You can't use these like your more common wax based pencils. With my Prismacolor premier pencils I can push a little harder and they're so smooth that they blend very easily, but you can't use polychromos pencils like that! It takes longer to use polychromos because you have to lay down one thin layer at a time and keep doing that to blend and build up color and fill the tooth of the paper, so you gotta be patient when using the polychromos, but the outcome is beautiful! I love my Prismacolor pencils and I will always replace them as needed because they're open stock, but I also love my polychromos and I will always have them too! They're two different types of colored pencils, but they both have a purpose. On some paper my Prismas work better, and some paper my polys work better. I love them both equally! But if you decide you want to get this set of 120 Faber Castell polychromos, if you order online you should buy from Blick instead of Amazon because they are ab $40 cheaper on dickblick.com. Amazon can ship them to you faster, but I'd rather wait a few more days and save $40! And I know the web address for the Blick website doesn't sound like they're selling art supplies lol but I promise it's a legitimate art supplies store!
You are right about how to use these. I am sure many will find your tips helpful! I just checked, currently the price for Polychromos is similar on both places, but I do agree on support small business like Blick. I did find they have a great sale on Holbein colored pencils
@@cheesim Thank you! I just checked about a week ago and there was a $40 price difference! The price on Amazon keeps changing! A month ago the set of 120 was selling for $158 and over that month the price got up to $205! I'm not sure why the price keeps going up and down, but I know they keep selling out! But they are restocked quickly! Polychromos seems to be a very popular pencil right now! I'll have to check out Blick's sale on Holbein pencils! I have never owned any Holbein's just because of the cost, so maybe it's a good time to grab some while they're having a sale! Thank you for letting me know!
Price goes ups and downs all the time! The reason I like using Amazon because I can add the item to my wishlist and monitor the price change, it is more challenging to do that with Blick. I wish they have a better sales page for us to find all the good deals 😆
