CHIANG MAI, THAILAND - Welcome to Chiang Mai, and today we’re going to Kiti Panit (กิติพานิช), which is a northern Thai restaurant within a 130 year old teakwood mansion in the heart of Old Chiang Mai. The mansion has a history of being the first General Store in Chiang Mai.
Not only is this a great restaurant to eat at, but it’s also traveling back in time and it’s actually a museum at the same time as it’s a restaurant.
For the food, we ordered a range of different dishes, all based on Northern Thai cuisine, but dishes make use of high quality ingredients.
The khao soi - curry egg noodles was fantastic - so incredibly rich and thick and hearty. I also loved the fried chicken wings with makwaen, a flowery spice that’s related to Sichuan pepper. Finally the other highlight dish was their gaeng hanglay, a Burmese Shan pork curry. This is no doubt one of the richest and meatiest versions you’ll have.
Recommended for a nice sit down northern Thai food restaurant when you’re in Chiang Mai, in a historical location.

That fish looks remarkable. Everything looked very tasty but the description of finding more stuff as he burrowed into the fish sent me up the wall. (I also remember another video from Chiang Mai which had a memorable dish made to look like a large blue flower. Mark loved it and I can’t stop thinking about it.)

Great short video. I love that building, ever since I 1'st was in C.M. I've loved that building, it's so great to see that it's being cared for and is a top-end restaurant now! I bet that Kao Soi is in the top 5 category of the best. Everything looks spectacular.

The mansion is unbelievably beautiful ( 👍🙏 to the owners for lovingly restoring it) If I had any suggestion I think that I would rather hear instrumental Thai/Chinese music in the background than contemporary because it just seems to take away from the beautifulness of the building 🙏

I almost passed out from watching Mark attack that insane looking khao soi. Khao soi, even when done poorly, is still a spectacular dish. But when it’s taken to another level, my goodness, it’s other worldly. So jealous of Mark as I eat my chef salad.
Yeah; that looks like it might be in the top 5 Khao Soi category. Too pricy for me but the whole thing, the building, the restoration, the presentation of the food is amazing. I've only had one bowl of Khao Soi that I'd considered "bad" in Chiang Mai. Like you say, the dishes that may be lower grade are still spectacular.

You should put links to a site where those spices can be bought because they are not common in the USA. I googled them because I recently planted seeds of the first plant you called coriander, the one with the curly leaves that looks like parsley. It's an asian variety of cilantro/coriander with a stronger flavor and the seeds are from a company that wrote instructions on how to plant them in both English and Chinese. I planted them because it's rarely sold at Asian markets in my area and when it is it's often wilted. So I googled the other spices you ate in case other people want to do the same thing, I am not sharing any links but here's a little interesting information I found that will also help people who are googling the spices to buy them or buy seeds or plants. Sawtooth Coriander can also be called Culantro, that's not a misspelling, it's like Cilantro spelled with a u. It's species name is Eryngium Foetidum and I saw people selling plants online and an article about why you should grow it in San Francisco. Vietnamese Coriander is sold as either Persicaria Odorata or Polygonum Odoratum which is an older name for the plant, and it's related to various types of plants called Knotweed in the same plant family so you might want to grow it in a pot not in the ground. Any piece that breaks off including the piece in your meal can be rooted and grown into a new plant. I like the names of the plants that all refer to the odor of the plants. And the Makhwaen pepper is sold online spelled with a kh on most sites. I hope you and everyone else enjoyed reading my comment.

Every dish was so good...but the thing is if u eat chicken,meat and fish at one time,u should have water in between so that u can have the actual taste of that thing ,And it's very good for health also.

Wow the scriptures are being fulfilled in which say that in the days of Noah they were eating and drinking, until the flood came and took them all away, except 8 souls were saved with water. I feel so bad for people to lose their souls in this world and exchange their soul and birthright for travels, food, cars, fame and everything Jesus told us to give up if we want to follow him.
