I'll never get over the fact that because of Trunks (and Cell's) visit, these Androids were not yet programmed to be like the evil ones in the future. These ones spared every obstacle that crossed them. This arc would have had a bad ending by episode 135 if they were as evil. So fascinating, honestly.
Honestly it was because our timeline was something special and was just going to be different

Because the conditions has changed since Trunk's visit. Goku is still alive in the current timeline leading to the androids still having an objective to pursue. And later, Cell appears and becomes the common enemy, leaving them no chance to be evil.
Do you guys think that because goku died before the andriods could get to him. Dr gero decided to just program them to kill everyone? Or that there was some error in his programming that made it so either the androids were super peaceful like 16, or ultra violent like future 17 and 18? Maybe he didnt yet get a chance to even program anything into 17 and 18 in this time line.
It was cool how Super kind of evened out the timelines too. They showed that Yajirobe survived in the alternate timeline as well as Bulma, Gohan, and Trunks(all 4 left the fight against 20 and 19 together in the real timeline so things could have played out extremely similar in both up until a certain point).
19:39 This image of Vegeta clutching his broken arm screaming in pain as Truck rushes to his rescue as the narrator closes out the episode is one of the DBZ moments permanently ingrained in my head since childhood. My childhood brain was floored. Vegeta finally on top only to suffer one of the worst defeats and no one else can do anything. DBZ knew how to make great cliffhangers.

love how Trunks keeps calling him Vegeta instead of father, but then at the end when he fears he might lose him again, thats when he drops the pretences and strategy of not fighting 18 and instead his love for his dad clouds his better judgement and flies in without a thought other to save the father he's already lost once before
One of the best kicks in anime history! That twist, that turn, that hip... BOOM!!! ... and Prince of all the Saiyans cry... Most Epic!
I love that throughout this whole fight 18 didn't kill a single person. Everyone who died was because of Vegeta.
That’s why Krillin felt bad about using the remote on her because she was innocent she didn’t kill anyone unlike her future counter part
I have to admit I've never been into reactions but being 36 and watching your girlfriend relive my excitement is so cool
This was probably one of the most haunting scenes in Dragon Ball history. Trunks was born into a world that was already dead and never got to know any of the Z-Fighters properly. He lost his mentor/brother/best friend to these Androids and has had to live with the guilt that he wasn't strong enough to help or save them. His mom holds his father in high regards despite admitting that he was so emotionally reserved he never could say he actually cared for her. Then he meets his dad and discovers that he doesn't actually care about them at all up to this point, which definitely must have hurt him.. But while fighting 18 he starts to believe that his father's strength can make a difference in this time, only to see that hope crumble away as Vegeta steadily gets weaker and weaker. And finally he sees his father hurt to the point that all that insurmountable pride and arrogance clouding his personality is torn down with his ego, as he screams to the skies in agony. In those moments, Trunks probably felt that his entire journey was for nothing, because I'm sure imagined next that he'd experience the deaths of his new friends and his father, which he narrowly avoided in his time because he was born too late to see it happen on the battlefield. Even if he can control his Super Saiyan form, it's still triggered by an emotional response. I always imagined all that hopelessness he carried from the future just rushed to the surface and manifested as pure desperation.
05:16 he didn't have the aura bc he is much faster and more powerful than the others in his base form, so no need to turbo boost. He's chillin while the others are going full speed basically. Piccolo was said to be as strong as a ssj here, so it makes sense.

This might be the funniest episode in dragon ball z, they way vegeta screams at SUPER SAIYAN level after the arm break is crazy 🤣

Android 18's victory over Vegeta is one of his most humiliating defeats. Not only did Android 18 single handedly defeat Vegeta, but she legitimately defeated him as a super saiyan.
It’s also important to note that Android 18 herself said that to overpower SSJ Vegeta she would need to use 100% of her power. Suggesting that Vegeta was somewhat of a threat if she didn't actually try.
Once Vegeta achieved grade 2 it would have been a no contest.
Vegeta became strong enough to shit on semi perfect Cell. Goku speculated that Vegeta had to have at least trippled his power to take on Semi perfect cell.

From that episode on.. every through super, keep an eye on Vegeta while he’s battered he always holds that arm. Every time I see him holding is arm it always takes me back to that scene with him and 18. Blessed day. 🇳🇿🙏🏽

So, let me take a crack at it. I have three possible theories.
1. Namekians just can naturally fly and it doesn’t have to be learned like Humans and Saiyans do.
2. Piccolo has far better Ki control than the rest of the Z Fighters and therefore is able to keep his Ki contained while flying.
3. Piccolo isn’t flying using Ki he’s flying using Telekinesis(similar to chiaotzu) in order to conserve energy.
I think it's #3
There are multiple ocasions where Piccolo is flying with an aura, even last episode. That is just a random error in the art.
However, there is a reason why the androids don’t have auras while flying, like when Goku started leading #19 and #20 out of the city, everyone else had auras while they didn’t. That is because they don’t emit any actual ki which is alo why they cannot be sensed. In Dragon Ball games it is also the reason why they cannot charge their energy to power up like organic characters do.
Dragon Ball Super retcons this and we see 17 and 18 with auras. Even the fact that they can become stronger at all is kind of a retcon because originally their power came from the android parts, not actual organic strength, and those android parts obviously cannot be trained. But it is what it is.
17 and 18 got wished back to life as humans? That's why they have auras now.

One of my favorite fights of all time. It illustrated so beautifully how Android 18 outclassed Vegeta and every way possible. Plus, out of all the Z fighters Android 18 has a unique fighting style, especially how she was blocking Vegeta's attacks. And the broken arm scene is just legendary.
Remember, they were designed to be beautiful, with unmatched grace, and infinite power beyond reason
Did you notice Android 18 never use a Ki Blast ? Plus, even if 18 outclassed Vegeta, they were evenly matched during all the episode until the end.
@@basilou4909 I wouldn’t say evenly matched. Her hits definitely did damage to Vegeta. And you she didn’t have to use Kai blasts to illustrate how she outclassed him. Her simply dodging and taking his blasts head on with out any damage being done is proof enough.

The reason why piccolo doesn’t have an aura when flying is because he doesn’t let his energy or “ki” as they call it leak out.
The others when going full power don’t suppress the energy leaking and so their energy leaks out and is detectable.
But He however always is in basically stealth mode unless he chooses to literally let it explode outwards.

Since Vegeta clutches his shoulder whenever he's badly injured, I like to think Vegeta's arm never fully healed after android 18 broke it. A permanent reminder of one of his most humiliating fights.

Vegeta always had a big ego and becoming a Super Saiyan only made it worse, so in my opinion, it was a good thing Vegeta lost to 18 because that experience humbled him or at least be built upon later for his character.
He should have listened to Future Trunks. But, he refuse to listen because Vegeta thinks he's much stronger now that he becomes a Super Saiyan. Oh yes, Vegeta gets angry because Goku surpass him and next thing we know, he gets angry again because Gohan surpass him and Goku when Gohan turns into a Super Saiyan 2.
I totally forgot DBZ did the truck fight years before The Matrix: Reloaded.

I like how this episode reminds us that even though Vegeta is "helping" the Z fighters that still doesn't make him a good person. Vegeta at this point in his story still has a long way to go.

Gohan didn't have the aura around him either with Bulma and the baby on his back. I think it matters on HOW fast your flying. That's why piccolo didn't have it, he wasnt flying very fast.

That's very interesting what you noticed... Piccolo with no aura is probably because of the drawing BUT... it might be because Piccolo is at his Full-Power (Weighted clothing off as well) while all the others are significantly weaker than him.
Piccolo is easily above Frieza's Last Form level at the moment and Earthlings (Tien & Krillin) are just a little behind Trunks in his base (non Super Saiyan) form here
I doubt Tien and Krillin are even 1/10th of base Trunks.
@@deckzone3000 Just here to remind you that we still talking about Base Trunks and not him in his SSJ form... I know it's quite common practice to low-ball Human Warriors to some ridiculous levels most of people base that filler episode doesn't count (Ginyu vs Z-Fighters on Kin Kai's planet) and that there isn't any episode telling us that they are training. It's hard to believe to me that none of them did nothing and remain in their mid Namek-Saga level's of power.
@@genzowakabayashi2766 They get no zenkai boosts like saiyans, fusions like Piccolo, or any transformations. They never train in more than 10x gravity. Tien isn't at King Kai's for a full year. For the 3 years of training for the androids, Tien trains with Chiaotzu and Krillin trains at Roshi's I think (not very tough training partners). They even turned down the time chamber in the Cell saga because they knew it wouldn't make a difference. 🤷♂️ Humans just get left behind by the power of aliens and androids. I think they pass Captain Ginyu, but not 1st form Frieza.

As for why Piccolo didn't have an aura, his flying style is actually apparently distinct. It may have been an error but I read he considers his form of flying as superior in the early Saiyan Saga manga

You probably know this by now since this video is 5 months old, but 17 and 18 are cyborgs technically, they call themselves androids. 16 is actually a full Android. Also, this 17 and 18 are much nicer compared to the ones in Trunks timeline because this 17 and 18 never fully programmed the way Gero wanted them to be, and they still retain their normal personalities and not the viciousness future Gero gave them

Obviously he isn’t completely a hero by this point but the fact that the Androids are supposed to be this scary threat as warned about by Trunks and they care more about killing innocent people than Vegeta does when he is literally fighting to save earth because it is now his home is actually hilarious.
Android 17 even tells Piccolo that 16, 18 and himself don’t like killing people(except Goku because that gives them a purpose), and aside from maybe some biker thugs who probably already murdered people the Androids of this timeline literally kill no one even by accident or unintentionally while Vegeta just blasts away with reckless abandonment and his victims usually don’t come back even with the dragon balls because he is the only one who even remembers them.
If it weren’t for Cell Vegeta would still technically be the villain at this point.
@@westonmeyer3110 Yeah. There is a differents between Trunks's Timeline and the Main Timeline. Yes, Android 17 and 18 from Trunks's universe did murdered civilians, The Z Fighters and Future Gohan. But in the Main universe, 17 and 18 are different than their counterparts.

It’s because Dr Gero didn’t have time to strip them of their humanity, he merely activated them as a last ditch effort to beat the Z fighters before the Z fighters destroyed everything he built in his life to kill Goku.
