Also it should be noted there's actually FOUR Atelier Collections as there's four games in the Arland collection. The first are available as a trilogy Rorona, Totori and Meruru but there's also a fourth on Switch with Lulua which is part of the Arland Ateliers. :)

  • @luliby2309

I do wish that we could get a Castlevania DS collection as those games are all fantastic. Only awkward bit is that Dawn Of Sorrow is a direct sequel to Aria Of Sorrow for those that don't want to be spoiled. I very much want a Megaman Star Force collection too since it would make tracking down those games so much easier, just like with Battle Network. I never played anything from Star Force, unlike Battle Network, so I would love that convenience. We've already got so many Megaman collections (and so many Capcom collections in general), that I hope that it'll get here someday.
I also see that you're using the awful-sounding "Search Action" term, Derrick. Tsk tsk. :P I don't think it'll catch on. "Search Action" sounds lame and like a joke the first time you hear it. "Metroidvania" just sounds too badass. Makes sense. "Metroid" and "Castlevania" are two of the coolest sounding names for anything I've ever heard.

For me, Namco Museum is usually the first thing that comes to mind whenever the topic of video game compilations is brought up. Namco certainly won't hesitate to give players like 50 versions of Pac-Man, but my personal favourite Namco Museum game on Switch is Namco Museum Archives, not because it has NES ports of Namco arcade titles, but because it includes demakes of Pac-Man Championship Edition and Gaplus and the NES version of Championship Edition is honestly better than the original in my opinion

    • @thinkhector

I just purchased this collection! And man did I debate getting this for days! Watched tons of videos, most negative.
I thought they had made no improvements to the games. So I thought about just emulating them.
However, the little things go a long way. Who knew that Wanpaku Splatter house was actually better with rapid fire?
Two easily controlled movement speeds in Pacland actually makes the game pretty fun, and makes the arcade game seem slow.
(Hint: If you play with Controller 2 on PacLand you get a traditional Dpad and Jump button setup. NOT as fun! Surprising!)
Thank God Dragon Spirit has rapid fire. If it was on NSO it wouldn't. And it needs it.
The arcade shooters play nicer when on a widescreen monitor than their arcade counter parts. And some are a little bit easier. Which is a plus.
I thought not being to remap buttons would be a problem, but it's only a slight problem for one game (Legacy of the Wizard.)
Luckily I have a Retro Fightres Brawlee 64 that works well with NES games.
So many versions of Pac-Man....you are right about that.
I have the Arcade Archives version and that one looks fantastic in vertical/tate mode.
However, I do okay the NES version sometimes because I don't feel like flipping the screen all the time. And the Arcade Archives Pac-Man looks so tiny on widescreens.

About the Atelier Mysterious Trilogy Deluxe Pack, these versions are treated as separate games compared to the original. It may not be much of an issue for Switch players, since the only game that became part the collection that is on Switch is Atelier Lydie & Suelle, but for PS4 and PC players who owned the original games, your saves won't work with the DX versions, meaning you'll be starting from scratch. There are no physical versions for any of the Atelier collections that are in English, except the asian Switch ports, so be wary when picking up one. But if you haven't played any of these games, content-wise, the collections are a way to go. The only loss was the Lydie & Suelle's limited-time Everybody's Golf crossover costume, but aside that, everything is fine.

Great list! Currently I have the the Crash Bandicoot trilogy, Collection of Mana, all of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, the Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection as well as the Mega Man Classic and X Legacy Collections.
There's one you left out but understandably so, the Dragon Quest I-III collection. They might not be as impressive as the other games you covered here, but as a huge RPG fan it's very satisfying to own the origin of my favorite video game genre. Also the physical version seems to be a Switch exclusive compilation! I have already completed the first 2 games and found that they held up very well, saving III for a special occasion.

  • @oscarzxn4067

Yeah, I have heard quite a few times people say that the Switch is inferior to the Wii and Wii U when it comes to the retro games lineup since it doesn't have Virtual Console, when all of these collections, plus stuff like arcade archives, put it way above those 2 at least when it comes to third party stuff, with not only more games but also most of the time better emulation, more options and better prices.
It's a shame there is no eshop section for "retro Collections" I guess.

    • @thinkhector
      @thinkhector Před 15 dny

The emulation on Wii Virtual console was so poor.
Take Sonic 3. Nobody talks about how that version actually had all the original music intact!
Why don't people push that version? The audio quality is completely messed up. Pops, glitches, stuttering. A real mess.

I never take a high quality collection for granted these days. If only because the last ten-fifteen years have done so much damage to so many classic titles. I love the Final Fantasy collection, the Mario 3D All Stars collection is good, if not incomplete. It lacks Galaxy 2 and 3D Land. Also Mario 64's controls are so difficult.
I wish we had a Dragon Quest collection that had 1-10, or at least 1-8.

Castlevania, Contra and Arcade Classics Collection are good, but TMNT has terrible input lag (8 frames)

    • @thinkhector
      @thinkhector Před 15 dny

@@jasonmartinez5116I'm gonna disagree with you on two fronts. The Cowabaunga Collection input lag is really unnoticeable. It's a beat em up;! It's not that important. (I believe it's actually closer to 6 frames too.)
And Contra Collections is the actually collection with the emulation issues. "Contra" arcade has slow down. The arcade games does NOT have slow down!
"Super C" the arcade game has voice work. It's completely missing here!
Why'd don't the NES games have a full screen option?!?
Some games don't have remapping of buttons, but some do?!? What's up with that?!?
No rewind? Really? Those games are balls hard! Rewind would have helped so many people.
Japanese versions of every game BUT Simon's Quest? The music in Simon's Quest for Japan was different (not better, just different.) Should be there.
There is STILL a weird audio glitch when navigating the menus. A little pop. The game was updated last month, and they still haven't fixed it!
I actually prefer playing "Castlevania Bloodlines" and "Contra Hard Corps" on NSO because they give you rewind and multiple save states.

Question about the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. Why are people complaining about the font? Is it illegible? Is it written in Comic Sans(which I also question why people hate)? I never got the complaint, cause through screenshots look fine to me.

The Castlevania Anniversary Collection is the only one on this list that I refuse to buy unless sold in a boxed set with the Advance Collection and a third collection that doesn't exist yet. _Though I should mention that said Anniversary Collection is the only one on this list that I actually currently own._ But in all seriousness, assuming the focus of this third collection is the DS and maybe the 3DS, what else could be included? What would be this collection's Dracula X?

Though the more I think about it, "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate" would probably be more likely to get a standalone port using the same engine as Metroid Dread then be bundled alongside the DS trilogy.

@Nathaniel_E_Dearing I'm not exactly frothing at the mouth to have Mirror of Fate on the Switch, but it's inclusion in a collection wouldn't be a deal-breaker. Of course, when it comes to games that rly ought to be on the Switch but aren't, a certain PS1 Castlevania title comes to mind...

@@AxelWedstar411 You refer to Symphony of the Night. Understandable. However, it can't happen due to Konami signing an agreement that keeps it exclusive to PlayStation. But there is a potential loophole: If they were to localize the SEGA Saturn version, then maybe _that_ could somehow be ported Switch. But neither the PS1, PSP, or PS4 version can happen.

3D All Stars bar none. Super Mario 64 is a perfect video game, Sunshine is highly underrated, and Galaxy is one of the greatest video games of all time, if not the greatest game of the 2000s. Quality over quantity, but with Metal Gear coming out in a few weeks it's a serious contender as well

Imo, Konami blows any Capcom collection out of the water, ironically enough:
-Multiple versions included from around the world
-Scans of advertisements, instruction manuals and strategy guides also from around the world
-Proper localizations for the games included
    -User friendly menus
What frustrates me the most about Capcom's collections are that as an european specifically, the Ace Attorney and Mega Man collections feel too cheap and not up to standard compared to the competence: only in English (a few sparce times they include two more languages, but never spanish or italian), no physical releases and the worst offender Zero marketing in European regions to make sure these sell well enough to guarantee better releases.
And It is a shame, because these games Capcom want to rerelease are very good... but they just aren't worth 60 or 30 bucks compared to a Level-5 title or even a Konami collection where not only is the localization very good, they also just include more content which makes It feel like a solid deal.
Capcom shenanigans aside, this was a solid list. Glad to see some cool and underrated bundles or compilations shown here.

Megaman and Megaman X collection, TMNT collection, Genesis collection, Psikyo collection are very high in input lag and are not good collections.
All collections done by M2 are great. All done by Digital Eclipse are awful unless it is the Street Fighter collection. Hamster is ok enough, sometimes very good. City connection is hit or miss with their ports, but Psikyo collection was terrible, which is a shame cause most of the games with lag would be incredible to play if they were as responsive as when played on CRT and original hardware.
Play those in mame or on pc with emulators. Way less lag, even on an LCD screen.
