They are definitely there! I still find stuff, but it does irritate me how they are raising prices. Our goodwill bins just raised prices 10 cents and the loyalty point program is completely gone. They’ve also added furniture in our bins and have set up like an actual furniture store in the back. I sat down in one of the chairs to give my baby a bottle and I was told I couldn’t sit on the furniture. I kinda got mad at the lady and said it’s a $3 chair!! How am I going to break it?? It’s a chair lol she just said sorry no sit. 😑

Found Dolce and Gabbana jeans this week in a Goodwill, three pairs, marked $30 or $50. I was looking one of them over and one of the employees who is nearly full-time came over and tried to take them away from me and said "these aren't supposed to be there, they're supposed to go to e-com" (E-com is what they call it when they divert actual good stuff to sell on their e-commerce sites or on Ebay) and I said "Too bad, I have them in my hands, you'll have to forcibly take them from me physically if you want them" - she took the other two pairs and went into the back - she knows me and she knows I wasn't kidding. I didn't even want them, I was just so pissed that they are doing crap like this regularly. It's so rare that anything like that makes it way to the sales floor.
Long story short, she was told to put them back on the rack by the main manager. (As if any regular shopper is going to pay $50 for them) - I looked them up and they weren't even that good on the secondary market and they were in pretty worn condition.
It's kind of a symbol in my mind of how absolutely stupid Goodwill has become and how they're really trying to destroy their business. They could sell them for $20 even pretty quickly - maybe someone will buy them when they go half-off in a couple weeks. But I have a feeling these Dolce and Gabbana jeans are destined for the bins, which is INSANE if you think about it.

Also seeing this in Colorado. Possible Theory - the proportion of recent Colors on floor is much greater than the 2 on-sale colors. Thus possibly leading the consumer to think quick inventory turnaround - "buy it now" else it won't be here to hit the sale colors.

I have so much to say about this but all I have to say is in my area their is notthig worth buying in goodwill..they send everything worth buying to e-com..to stick everything in the managers pocket and the owner. they need to take there non profit taxes away..look up what they make.. they are getting fifthy rich off of donations!! It should go to the area it was donated to and by the way don't ever round off for their employee's they are trained by a video tape..they told me this at a Goodwill..disgusting!!

my goodwills are the same. Prices are outrageous. They also took away all coupon discounts here as of March for "system upgrades" including those for seniors and military. Customers were furious at the register. Also, noticed employees pulling all the half off items. Some of them put back on the racks still have the old color tag hanging off of it. It's total corporate greed at this point.

Yes Goodwills here start to remove the 50% off tags two days after they switch. They switch on Sunday and by Tuesday they're taking off the discount color tags and retagging them in the back already. I've complained every time I see them doing it. They don't care. Central Texas.

Confirmed by friends who work at the Goodwill store, state that on days of 50% off, they were instructed by the store manager to take the color tags that are 50% off to the back room but leave maybe 10-15% on the floor so no one can complain or noticed that the color tag on 50% sale is not available. They also do retag or change the prices.

I use to work at goodwill tagging clothes. They give us a list of prices and certain brands get marked up a $1 or $2. They are over flooded with donations. So they take down old inventory and put the clothes in a compactor in the back and send it to the bins. We didn’t do any retagging. Unfortunately a lot a lot of the hard goods just get thrown in the garbage. Which I thought was very sad.

Picking up less and less too because some thrift stores pricing up clothes. I dislike spring summer because clothing is less substantial and often brings less profit. I am picking up more linens and hardgoods that take knowledge of home trends and styles. They seem to be missing those and buyers are willing to pay up for Pendleton, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel and Pier 1 is even bringing some good prices. Thanks for showing that some days not buying at high prices is still a smart move!

The cashier was having a meltdown because it was priced too cheap and went to the manager. Didn't want to sell it to the poor person trying to buy it. So at my Goodwill here in Colorado changes their tag colors on Sunday and I go on that day to see what may be 1/2 in the case or shoes and they are pulling all the colors that are on sale...all day long and I've talked to them about this and they say that yes, they do this same thing and start right away on Sunday in the morning removing the 'sale tag' for that week and for the week before. And I get the same story, "we start to pull on Sunday the color that is on sale and it gets retagged or goes to the bins." However when I go to the local bins there isn't a bunch of high-end stuff or even that good of stuff like you would expect if they were just pulling all the tags and giving them to the bins. So things are getting crazy at GW.

I recently was shopping at a goodwill on a Sunday; blue tagged items were $1 and red tagged items were 50% off. While customers were shopping (!!!), they did a computer update to make all the blue items 50% off and the red items $1. I had been in the store for about 2 hours and had all blue items in my cart. The person who checked out before me got her blue items for $1. When they scanned my blue items, they were 50% off instead of $1. They refused to sell the blue items to me for $1. I suspect that on Saturday evening, the goodwills in my area pull a lot of the items that will be $1 on Sunday off the floor. I'm disappointed that the stores in my area no longer process plush toys because their profit isn't good enough on stuffed animals--an employee told me this. The employee also told me that they also are eliminating their 1-price -per-category practice (e.g., all women's shoes used to be $5.99) to price by condition, so a pair of shoes that sold for $5.99 a few weeks ago are now $12.99. I'm no longer a fan of goodwill stores, at least in my area, and will avoid shopping at them.

My local thrift, not Goodwill, started going crazy with their pricing a little over a year ago. They used to write in magic marker on the bottom of the shoes. When the shoes were supposed to get discounted they would rewrite the color ie if it was P it would become B. Recently however, I have noticed that they are not doing this anymore and that their pricing seems to be more realistic. I think they were sitting on a lot of inventory and finally figured out that they were losing money.

Same is true in Minnesota. They price like they are selling online, but they are selling LOCALLY which is not the same demographic. My Goodwill had shoes priced so high that the walls shelves were packed. When they ran out of room they added more and more shelves on top of the clothing racks to pack more overpriced shoes. I breeze through every so often and pluck brands they don't recognize. I used to do most of my sourcing through their stores but I've found better inventory for fair prices elsewhere. I love that you made them squirm over their reticketing. Might be worth calling their corporate HQ and leaving a complaint. They may not know this is even happening.

In my area of California, the color of the week is a joke. It is only 20% off, never 1/2 off and that's if you can even FIND the color. Goodwill starts pulling days ahead and most racks do not have a single color of the week tag. I've complained many times, but I guess this is just how they operate now. I have moved on to smaller thrift stores with true half off sales and much better pricing.

so i want to start by saying that where i live, our goodwill's do NOT do color tags or sales or markdowns. everything is priced by category ( majority of the time but lately I've noticed they have been starting some individual pricing that are higher than the normal category pricing especially on maxi dresses and jackets etc) but even here I have noticed they are taking older items down and then retagging and putting them back out on the floor the following week. they will no longer sell anything that has the tag they are removing and if you do happen to get one they tell you they cant sell it to you. I have started more so going to thrift stores owned by charities or mom and pop shops. goodwill's where i live have also hired people who are educated on brands and are pulling higher end items off the racks to sell online but thats not really new lol

So I went thrifting yesterday which was Sunday. That's the day the half off colors change at our local Goodwill's. I caught one of the workers pulling all the orange tags which had been 50% off the week before. We have $.99 day on Monday. All of the colors that were half off the week before are supposed to be $.99 the next day. Of course that was the color that she was pulling. It was all jeans and dresses which are the most expensive items. I asked her why she was pulling them. She said they need hangers for all of their new merchandise coming in. I asked what they needed them for she-said they have so much stuff in the back that they have to pull that particular color so they can use the hangers. I said well that doesn't make sense. All of those items will be $.99 tomorrow. Why don't you just wait till the next day when all of it is sold. She said they can't do that. But didn't have a good answer as to why. It's obvious they were pulling them to re-tag them and put them back on the floor. That doesn't make sense. If you have so much merchandise then why don't you let those items go for $.99 and let people have a good deal. I asked her if she was pulling all the $.99 items what was gonna be left for $.99 day. She said oh they'll be some things. That was a lot obviously a lie. If They don't want anyone to get any of the $.99 items. Then don't have a $.99 day. They are so ridiculous and shady. I am so thankful We have lots of good thrift stores here in Atlanta so Goodwill is my last option. So sad it used to be so fun to shop here. Not anymore.

Wow I had no idea they were doing that. I was wondering why there were barely any half off and $1.99 (what used to be 99¢) colors. I always just thought people ended up buying them at full price. That is absolutely disgusting that they do that. I’m in western Washington and I’m counting down the days until garage sale season starts because the thrift store prices in my area are ridiculous. I’ve even been to mom and pop thrift stores in my area and they also price things up there. One mom and pop store near me has flat pricing but nothing except their small sale rack is under $9. And another one had a Patagonia jacket marked at $40 a few weeks ago. I’ve come out of many thrift stores empty handed the last few weeks. So frustrating.

I was at a funeral this past weekend and my cousin, who is not a reseller, said she does not thrift anymore at Goodwill because of the prices. She lives in Austin, TX. I have always maintained that true thrifters, like myself (I am a reseller but also thrift for my family) will not pay the higher prices. I truly think that Goodwill's demise will eventually be not catering to their clients and staying in their lane.

Goodwills in Austin are super uneven. There's about 20 of them. Some I won't even go into at all. Some are pretty reasonable. And some, remarkably, have been dropping their prices recently, if you can believe it. I noticed this and asked a couple employees, and it was confirmed. Because people were complaining and leaving negative reviews online. But then again across town the crappy Goodwills are at it worse than ever with markups.
Pro tip: befriend the employees who seem disgruntled or the ones doing community service hours. They'll dish the dirt.

So, my local store was terrible all Fall. A couple of weeks ago, all the people working there were wearing suits and dress wear for about a week or two. Ever since, prices have been AMAZING. I’ve literally spent close to $800 in the last week when I normally spend like $100 tops. Lots of great brands too. Patagonia, Kuhl, Howler Bros. I’ve been in shock seeing prices at my local. Go one town over however, and it’s same overpriced as usual. Waiting for the managers to take over those other stores for a couple weeks haha.
There have been a few items I’ve noticed at a few of my stores that I will keep an eye out for however. Pieces that stood out to me as being great pickups on 1/2 off weeks that were gone by the time I made it back to those stores for 1/2 off. If they suddenly reappear with a different color or after 1/2 price, I will come back and mention it.

Not only do I usually hear other customers complaining about the prices in my Goodwill. I also hear them talking about the color of the week tags and talking about how there aren’t any in the store, so something is going on and how can you possibly have a color of the week, and nothing be left… Now I do find things with the color of the week tags but I have literally watched them pull things off of the shelf and when I’ve said hey, are you pulling those because they’re the color of the week the lady like got really defensive and she was like the sale is over. I’m like well you have the sign up and it’s not the end of the week. And she said well this is what we do. I was like OK

Way to call the tag process out to the check out person, changing the old tags out...not cool. I mean they advertise the color changes, at least here at our goodwill. I don't see them pulling tags much (have seen them doing it on the 1.79 or 1.99 days during the day), mostly I just see a lot of great stuff going to half off then 1.99 as no one is paying their high high prices and when you go in on sale days you can't buy all the good buys up (there is just too much to look thru to do so). When he says the rack are too crowded...HELLO!?? If they would mark things down about 30% to begin with they wouldn't have overstuffed racks IMHO.. I recently went to a local goodwill here near Seattle and the prices were actually normal, (huh?) I picked up about 16 boho style dresses with new tags (cheaper brands) but all were $5.99, even one nice Torrid was only $5.99. I was amazed, as usually they hardly ever had any items (except kids) lower than $7.99. I think either they have a new pricer that is more generous OR they were tired of having over Stuffed racks they had to ;give away' to the bins. I am hoping that the supply demand will wake all the Goodwills up to the fact they can't just ask what they want to and sell it. I see some theft going on...people actually running in and then out again with a whole armload of clothing. Last one I saw was an older man and a younger male outside talking after the man parked and the younger rode up on a skateboard. The younger man, probably a teen ran into the store past me and as I was entering, he ran out with an armload of clothing to the mans car. I think the man had been in before, picked it all out and left it right in front for the teen to find. He pushed it into the trunk and drove off. The teen skated off. I was stunned. I think around here teens are getting into a lot more trouble than ever, with older people using them to do their dirty work. I think there was some law passed that helped teens go unpunished around here. It's so sad, they are forming car theft rings etc. Wish I'd know what was going on...I could have taken a picture of the car or something. I was just too stunned. At 5.99 I spent almost $200 there in about 2 hours. I shop Goodwill Rack mostly ...of all my choices. I like that its clean, easy to find things, less likely to have flaws, but I do have to usually really shop a long time to get only a few things due to the higher pricing. I also don't like that they save things up for Seasonal...they will save all the swimwear up and then bam 4 racks full all at once. I do shop a lot of lingerie, dresses and swimwear...especially great brands, plus size and like new of course or vintage. I don't like to list pants, jacket or shoes too much. Ok back to watching your video! And listing!

I typed in the same search term as you and today there are 181 results that come up. but some of them do not have duchess in the title and many of them are not even size 5.5. when you filter down to size you see there are only 6 used available in 5.5 and still only 2 of those have duchess in the title! still none sold though but I might have picked it up with 2 listed 0 sold versus 180 listed 0 sold.

Goodwill is becoming a bit ridiculous. It's probably my least favorite place to thrift these days. The prices are inflated, IMO, and the racks in my area outside of Sacramento are extremely full. I broke hangers trying to "smoosh" things over just so I could see tags. I found this to be true in all clothing areas of the store. Recently, I had 3 hours to kill when my car was being serviced, so decided to do some sourcing. I came home with a sore back from trying to shove stuff over on the racks. I mentioned this to the cashier and he kind of rolled his eyes and said "ya, they need to pull stuff", whatever that means. They don't always bring new racks out anymore, either, at least for clothing. I'm sourcing more at the bins, because I feel I have a better chance of finding gold nuggets than in thrift stores. I recently bought a sturdy, collapsible wagon which has been a game changer (no more begging and pleading for carts). A lot of the t-shirt bros pass on Eileen Fisher and Ermengildo Zegna, so it's a more even playing field. lol I just find a quiet bin, plug in my headphones and pretend I'm on my own island...being a palm tree, swaying in the breeze, searching for $50 bills. :)
