    I've been rewatching the Capaldi era recently, and it's so much better than I remembered. For instance re-watching Listen, I finally understood Steven's intentions for 12 and Clara and now I love this era of the show so much more.

      Agreed, glad people appreciate 12's era increasingly in retrospect

    Giving Legend Of The Sea Devils a 3 and Twice Upon a Time a 1 is a take, I don't like a good amount of aspects to it (1's characterization, 12's speech etc) but scenes like the armistice alone put it above legend not to mention it's really well directed and edited, it's VFX are solid etc. Where as Legend genuinely feels unfinished to a point that I don't think any of 12's stories reach but hey it's all just opinions at the end of the day.

      Giving "Legend of the Sea Devils" a 3 was wiiiiiild to me. It's barely an episode of television.

      Yeah honestly I think theres a lot of Jodie apologism going on here. Twice has issues but its not a 1/10 lol

    • @dommoore6180
      @dommoore6180 Před rokem +4

      @michaelnorris3639 twice is pretty terrible. Just a totally unwanted epilogue with yet more over the top touchy feely writing that barely strings together a coherent story, with character assassination of the 1st doctor just to make the current look better and yet more over hyping the doctor as this Jesus like figure whilst he strikes posed and shows off his mid life crisis shades.
      It's embarrassing.

    • @mrdoctorgilmore
      @mrdoctorgilmore Před rokem

      While I'm not a fan of the first Doctor's portrayal (bar the third act) I do like TUAT for what it does for the 12th Doctor, following a series of traumas, he loses his faith in himself but the events of this story give him the strength go on, it rounds of his character journey trying to understand what being the Doctor means anymore.

    • @dommoore6180
      @dommoore6180 Před rokem +2

      @mrdoctorgilmore a journey he ended on series 8...
      A journey that never actually got developed properly at all and he solved by just randomly deciding he knew who he was when convenient...

    My ratings for 13th doctor stories
    The woman who fell to Earth 8/10- A good introduction of the 13th doctor and companions.
    The Ghost Monument 8/10- It’s fantastic to see the doc and fam take part in a space ridonculous race and explore the ruins of an Eden Corporation facility. It’s odd that the planet there on has this paradox of feeling dangerous and not threating at all.
    Rosa 9/10- It’s weird that people accuse this of being historically inaccurate when it’s not. As someone that grew up and lives in one of USA Southern States, I can confirm Rosa portrayal of the time is completely realistic. Krasko seemed like a realistic plausible villian when I first saw Rosa in 2018 and now he seems more like a realistic plausible villian after the terrible things that happen in 2020. Rosa Parks wanting the manners of being referred to as mam is a culture thing that happens in the Southern States.
    Arachnids in the UK 4/10- it’s bad but Kill the Moon did everything worse
    The Tsuranga Conundrum 7/10- This episode took itself way to seriously. The Pting is less intimidating than a Maschiff growling and would have worked better if the episode was comedic about it being the main threat. And if you think this is the most disgusting pregnant man plot, don’t watch any cartoons made by Viacom.
    Demons of the Punjab 10/10- It’s fantastic, it’s amazing, it’s absolute perfection.
    Kerblam! 7/10 or 8/10 (maybe 6/10) I’ve only watch it once and don’t plan on rewatching it anytime soon because the Kerblam robots creep me out. The problem with this episode the corporation isn’t cartoonishly evil plot twist is that the real life corporation Kerblam gets compared to is cartoonishly evil. And if you have a problem with the doctor killing the Kerblam antagonist, acting like the 13th Doctor is only one with a flawed kill morality is stupid and makes people think of the doctors flawed killing morality overall. Doctor Who overall dose have a flawed kill morality because the show uses mercy as an excuse to not kill off popular villains. The reason no one brings up other sexual assault scenes when I criticize the horrible ending of Flesh and Stone is I don’t act like it’s the only sexual assault scene in existence.
    The Witchfinders is either a 2/10 or a 5/10 because I’m not sure if I hate it or think it’s OK.
    It takes You Away- 9/10 Fantastic insanity
    The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos 7/10 It’s not the worst finally (COUGH Hell Bent). Retreading the Pirate Planet is fine because the Pirate Planet is fantastic.
    Spyfall 8/10- Sacha Dhawan is a fantastic master and his master did not ruin Missy redemption arc because she never had a redemption arc. All Missy had was annoying character inconsistence of trying to go for Zuko type of redemption and also trying to one up Servalan villainy.
    Orphan 55 5/10- It’s OK and it’s not something worth defending from worst episode stigma (COUGH Hell Bent is the worst episode). It’s strange that this episode has James Buckley and Laura Fraser (Lydia from Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul) guest staring.
    Nikola Tesla’s night of Terror 8/10- A fantastic historical, it’s annoying how nitpicky people are about historical stories when there not pure historical. The reason pure historicals died out because the Gun Fighters was so awful it killed the premise and Black Orchid wasn’t good enough to revive it. The Skithra work in this story because they symbolize the hack fraud Thomas Edison is. And it if you got a problem with people dying in Edison shop, acting like it’s the only time it happen in Doctor Who is stupid because every Doctor Who historical story has been bodying people in the past since 1963.
    Fugitive of the Judoon 5/10- I'm on the fence on this story, what I didn't expect to age badly was my love and respect for Captain Jack and John Barrowman.
    Praxeus 7/10- It was awkward to watch this in 2020. It’s odd how the special effects are good but the bird swarms look bad. For those hell bent on hating the Chibnall era over stupid nitpicks, try hating this episode for one of the astronaut suit badges having the last name of the sexual predator Ryan Haywood on it.
    Can You Hea Me? 8/10- It’s not the shows worse handling of mental health (Cough in the Forest of shit). The episode should have made the doctor try to comfort Gram about his health concerns instead of going for a socially awkward “joke”.
    The Haunting of Villa Diodati 10/10- More crazy not properly converted Cybermen like Ashad please. In the Frankenstein book, Victor Frankenstein love interest/adopted sister Elizabeth was described a beautiful blonde that makes poems about the beauty of the world. It would have been hilarious if there was a joke about the 13th Doctor inspiring that character. I’m glad this episode had terrible marketing claiming it’s a separate story from the finally.
    Ascension of the Cybermen 8/10- Is it possible to retcon this episode as a separate story like Heaven Sent? The Cybermen stuff is amazing but being part 1 of Hell Bent 2: Electric Boogaloo is not.
    The Timeless Children 3/10- I’m not mad, I’m just baffled. Dam it why did it had to repeat Hell Bent fuck ups? Hell Bent lore breaking is worse because it broke the universe for Clara. The problem with Doctor Who major lore changers is that they don't have much consequences and development to them. The strangest thing about the timeless children is that it has a reference to the Breaking Bad episode Ozymandias. Ozymandias shattering moments worked because it had actual consequences and development to the shattering moments while The Timeless Children did not. Adding more plot holes is a terrible way to fix a plot hole.
    I haven’t seen Flux or the 13 Doctor specials and I can say with confidence they have the stupidest backlash. Harping on a scene of Storm Trooper aiming is the dumbest nitpick and the worst way to prove an episode or special is a 0/10 bad. Not my doctors being ableist assholes about a 1 arm lady and being misogynist pricks towards the Chibnall era overall is why nitpicking comes across as stupid. If you hate the Chibnall era, make some fucking better criticisms than bullshit Cinema sins nitpicking.

    I'm fascinated by this poll because they haven't had a "canon" set of classics and bad ones. I just hope the poll is controlled so Thirteen's era is review bombed by NMDs and we can get a fair ranking of it. I predict Power of the Doctor as the most ranked, either Arachnids or Sea Devils lowest. Twelve's highest will be Heaven Sent, lowest definitely Forest of the Night. I just want normal conversations about both eras not influenced by "this is the best/worst thing ever".

    • @alexl3500
      @alexl3500 Před rokem +1

      I reckon for 13 Power as Highest and Sea Devils or Orphan 55 as lowest. The latter might actually end up as bottom of the whole franchise on the poll (a position I'd actually give to S12 finale) but I'm hoping one Story gets close to Top 50 overall just for the sake of fairness to 13. Heaven Sent will easily be Capaldis Number 1 and Potentially in top 10 of show overall though I'd love for some love for World Enough and Time

      I think Haunting of Villa Diodati, Rosa, Village of the Angels, Spyfall, War of the Sontarans and Resolution will all do relatively well considering the hate for this era, but Orphan 55, Timeless Children, Tsuranga Conundrum, The Battle of Ranskoor av Kolos are all going to be decimated score wise

  • @britanimations2002
    @britanimations2002 Před rokem +5

    I worry about the Jodie era rankings, not because I think they're all going to just be trolling or that I think it is unequivocally the best, but because there will no doubt be SOME people ranking it low for bs right wing NMD reasons and that's just kinda sad

    Seeing you rate Capaldi’s episodes really gets me excited for when you marathon the entire 12th Doctor era even though it will take a long time.
    Also, note this: there must be at least one or two Malcom Tucker clips/audio mixed into each episode review. That’s an absolute requirement for any Capaldi review. I recommend using the Malcom punching Glenn audio for Thin Ice for obvious reasons.

      Some perceive the moon egg as an abortion metaphor which I’m still confused why. My guess is that moon represents an unborn baby still in its mother’s womb and the choice wether or not to destroy it could be an allegory for aborting that child. If that’s how it is seen and if was intentional by the writer, I don’t know but this is a rough perception.

    If you haven't watched Listen in a while then I'd actually reccomend going back and re-watching it because I didn't think much of it originally but now I absolutely adore it! It suprisingly doesn't present itself as clever and instead looks more at The Doctor's growing obsessive nature and the opening scene where The Doctor screams into the empty Tardis makes him a genuienly terrifying presence. It also ends with a montage with great music and I'm kinda a sucker for montage endings.

    My ratings for 12th doctor stories
    Deep Breath 6/10- an alright start to a shitty season
    Into the Dalek 2/10- a checklist of everything that makes a Dalek story shit
    Robot of Sherwood 8/10- The only 12th doctor episode where I didn’t find Clara obnoxious
    Listen 0/10 pretentious shit
    Time Heist 5/10- Farscape did this plot better, watch Farscape instead.
    The Caretaker 5/10- Why dose this show about traveling time and space keep making up bullshit excuses to stay in modern day London?
    Kill the Moon 0/10- Could have been good if it wasn’t so bad at politics and undermined it’s horror. The plot wouldn’t change and would have been better if the Doctor, Courtny, and Clara didn’t show up.
    Mummy on the Orient Express 8/10- good but massively overrated and Clara is obnoxious
    Flatline 8/10- also good but massively overrated and Clara is obnoxious
    In the forest of shit 0/10- This shit is so fucking stupid. Referencing poetry doesn’t make a story good. The massive tree growth would have made the solar flare burn the Earth faster instead of protecting the Earth. Not taken meds and listening to voices in your head is a terrible message.
    Dark Water/Death in Heaven 0/10- The worst Cybermen story and the Worst Master story. The only positive thing about it is I saw Gravity Falls for the first time when I changed the channel.
    Last Christmas 0/10- Being a Christmas special is not an excuse to be shit.
    The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar 0/10- the worst Dalek story of all time
    Under the Lake/Before the Flood 6/10 an alright story
    The Girl Who Died 0/10 This episode fails at everything. This shitty episode has inaccuracies in science, history, mythology, and geography. Those inaccuracies could have been forgiving if the episode didn’t have a shitty story and suck at characterization. Vikings soldiers aren't as stupid as the shitty episode portrays them. Vikings believe they go to Valhalla when they either die in combat or die holding a weapon. So the Vikings wouldn't believe the Monty Python shit the Mire pulled. Just watch the Netflix show Hilda for much better portrayal of Vikings and Scandinavian Folklore, much better writing with better characters and stories, and is able to use a Game of Thrones actor without feeling like stunt casting.
    The Woman Who Lived 0/10- What tone was this shit trying to go for? Because it sucks at being grim and goofy.
    The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion 0/10- Why the fuck did the Kill the Moon writer write a 2 parter?
    Sleep no more 6/10- eh
    Face the Raven 2/10- Clara should have stayed dead
    Heaven Sent 5/10- The most overrated Doctor Who episode of all time, anything undermined by Hell Bent was never that good to begin with.
    Hell Bent 0/10- The worst doctor who episode of all time. The only positive thing I have to say about Hell Bent is that I saw Farscape for the first time after watching this awful episode. Clara was not a good companion; Clara was a mystery box plot device that overstayed her welcome. Ashildr explaining set ups that never happen is the worst way to resolve a mystery box. I remember the bullshit excuse for defending all negative criticisms towards Ashildr was "her actor was in Game of Thrones" which aged worse than milk after season 8. Hell Bent is a worse ending than Game of Thrones season 8 because Game of Thrones season 8 ending could have worked if the show didn’t rush 3 seasons of material and gave the Iron Throne to Lyanna Mormont. There is nothing about Hell Bent that would have made a good ending beside never making it and keeping Clara dead. It’s strange all I need to prove this episode is the worst episode of all time nowadays is scream plot armor at the Storm Trooper aiming scene at the barn.
    I haven’t seen much and don’t remember much of series 10, Clara is gone but everything else that made series 8 and series 9 shit is still intact. The 12th Doctor is an overrated annoying shitty Rick Sanchez rip off and Missy is a terrible Master that never had a redemption arc. Missy spent her entire run with the character inconsistence of trying to go for Zuko type of redemption and also trying to one up Servalan villainy. I refuse to watch more episodes from the writers of Kill the Moon & In the forest of Shit.
    Twice upon a Time 0/10- the worst Christmas special of all time and the worst regeneration story of all time. Has David Bradly ever played a character that wasn't a horrible shit?

      There are fans arguing twice upon a time is actually good. That's just as nonsense and way less fun. The bias game is strong with Moffat fans vs the chibnall era.

      @@dommoore6180 I'm not arguing against that. I just think giving POTD an 8 is ludicrous, just like giving TUAT an 8 would be. I personally critique each showrunner and wanted Moffat gone before the monkey's paw curled up and gifted us Chibnall.
      My idea of an 8 is The Haunting of Villa Diodati, or Deep Breath. But that's just personal taste.

    It's very difficult to get a clear review of Jodie Whittaker's era because one side think she's absolutely awful and irredeemably bad as The Doctor, and another side think she is a shinjng star who can do no wrong.

      But it completely misrepresents the First Doctor a misogynistic bigot. Moffat himself said he wrote the story to show how progressive it had become despite the fact that the First Doctor never disrespected his female companions.

    • @talesofawhovian9690
      @talesofawhovian9690 Před rokem +1

      @@Sinnach87 Ironically, one could argue Moffat's writing during the Eleventh Doctor's era was far more sexist, regressive, and problematic than anything in the First Doctor's era (especially considering one was created in the 60s and the other in the early 2010s).
      Seriously, nothing One said in his tenure holds a candle to Eleven describing Clara as 'a mystery [...] wrapped in a skirt that's a little bit too tight', or him blaming Amy wearing a short skirt for distracting Rory when they were working on the TARDIS, or the whole flippant 'she's a woman' when Amy was confused about River wanting to marry then kill the Doctor in "Let's Kill Hitler".
      Yes, Moffat did improve with Capaldi onboard (and these moments of questionable writing choices should not define what Matt Smith brought to his portrayal of the Doctor), but goodness, it makes "Twice Upon A Time" all the more irritatingly self-serving. Especially when the First Doctor was partly created by Verity Lambert, who to this day remains the only woman to take the showrunner role in Doctor Who's history.

      I recently rewatched Series 8 and it's really good. I think a lot of people misinterpreted what that season was all about, which is the developing relationship between the Doctor and Clara. The Capaldi era in general is really strong. I agree that 'Flux' is a mess, though.

    • @yourneighbourtodoro
      @yourneighbourtodoro Před rokem

      @@ottomanwilde4836 I won't bore you with the details, but series 8 for me is easily Moffat's weakest, in no small part because I did get what they were going for, but Clara and 12 are deeply inconsistent in a way that I don't think was intentional.
      And Flux is... kind of unwatchable. I don't think I would intentionally rewatch it if I wanted to enjoy a season of DW. "War of the Sontarans" and "Village of the Angels" are waaayyyy over-praised considering how mediocre to downright frustrating they are.
